Really enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service in this restaurant. Food is very tasty and the menu is extensive. Staff are very attentive. The tables are rather close together so if that is one of your pet hates, this might not be the place for you. Will be back. Oh and it is very good for vegetarians.

Great food all around here! After nine days in Ireland, we were ready for some spicy food and was made to order(medium for us) here. Great wine and eerlist, service was good as well. A little warm in temperature, so the waiter upped the AC for us. Definitely recommend trying out this wonderful Nepalese restaurant!

A little bit of Nepal appeared on a Dublin side street 18 years ago; and only surprisingly discovered by me on a random search for a staff night out. I have literally walked by this place on my way home from work a thousand times and never spotted it! It is an absolute gem in Temple bar, a place most Dubliners avoid at all costs. I was tasked with taking some of my international colleagues for dinner in town. One of them is Muslim and so I wanted to ensure the restaurant was Halal; so I went to my trusty source tripadvisor for help. I came across Monty’s and wasn’t sure at first as I’d never heard of it; however the reviews were so outstanding that I thought we’d have to try it. It was listed #98 out of 1968 best restaurants in Dublin to visit on Tripadvisor, and has now risen to #90! After a movie, we all wandered towards Temple bar, not quite sure what to expect or where to find it. The restaurant is well tucked into an edge Eustace Street, cornered near busy Dame Street. As we approached the doorway, I was pleasantly surprised by the many twinkling, fairy lights dancing in the window and as we stepped up into the doorway towards a red velvet curtain that cloaked the doorway, I knew we were in for something special. We were seated right inside the door, a long table big enough for 8 was set with beautiful bronze side plates and heavy silverware, adorned with two of our colleagues already enjoying a beer. We were seated and one of my colleagues, a bit of a wine buff, set about making a selection from lavish list. Looking through the dinner menu was like strolling through food heaven, I adore Indian and Thai food so I never had any doubt that Nepalese cuisine would be right up my street. One of my colleagues sitting beside me was from Bangladesh and he was well acquainted with some of the dishes and he was giving me some tips, however most of his options included squid or lamb, since I eat neither I had to go it alone. I wanted to try something traditional so I opted for the Chicken Ledo Bedo, a Nepali curry served with plain rice. It was so tasty, the chicken was succulent and the curry was fragrant and light with a side of Garlic naan to mop up my plate(you can’t lick your plate in public!). There were plenty of poppadoms with chutney, mint yoghurt and chilli also while we waited on our mains. The night went down a treat with the gang and I would recommend a visit, either day or night. The atmosphere is warm, extremely friendly with excellent service and only the sound of content patrons echoing in the background; no noisy stereo pumping out crap music. It is a world away from Temple Bar.

server brought the wrong food and demanded full price for something not ordered. disappeared for ages during the meal. no napkins, unclean tables and dishes. food poisoning soon after leaving and had to run for the nearest loo. rest of the day spent with my pants down. can’t imagine a worse experience.

Great food and good service though be sure to make a booking on a weekend night as the restaurant gets very busy. Our group of four was seated in the basement at a table at the bottom of the staircase/in front of the toilet corridor door, not the best table in the house for a table that has been reserved but whatever. We were promptly attended to by a nice chap who brought us delicious beers and tap water. Soon followed were the starters. My husband and I split the lamb choila — it was a huge portion and very tasty. Then more beers followed and then our mains arrived. I ordered the khasi ko chilli(with lamb), again it was a huge portion. I was barely able to make it through half of it. Had I been in a position to take the remainder home in a doggy bag, I would have. Overall, a good experience and I’d definitely return.

Rich in flavours food. Good service and beautiful restaurant. A must-go-to restaurant if you like or don’t like Indian food. Cause Napalese cuisine is like but yet not the same.

The 2 Montys are not only the best Nepalese restaurants in Dublin(Probably the only one’s) but probably the best Indian restraunts aswell, I generally only eat vegeterain dishes in Indian’s such as Dal Tarka or Chana Masala and as Nepalese is quite similar to Indian, Montys serve both of these to the highest standard I have seen in Dublin. No Samosas on the Take Out Menu but you can’t win them all. Lovely Staff also.

A friend and I were in Temple Bar on a weekend evening(bad idea unless you are drunk off your arse) and needed some yummy food and a quiet retreat. We found both in Monty’s. Lovely, tranquil atmosphere. Gorgeous tables and place settings. The prices are high, but reasonable based on how much their rent must be. The food was hot, spicy, and delicious. We ordered what basically amounts to a vegetarian thali and got to try a number of dishes. All but two were vegan. The papads(pappadum), sauces, chutneys, and seasonings on the side were a highlight — really delicious. They have a great wine selection as well. They have a gluten-free tasting menu and a variety of good options for celiacs. The servers are very familiar with both Nepalese cuisine and the source of all their ingredients, so ask questions if you have any.

The food was excellent. Get the Momo starter if they have them, I promise you that you wont regret it. The restaurant is cozy but comfortable and the staff is great. They are patient and very helpful. The Ledo Bedo was tasty with just the right amount of heat. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant.

Stopped into Monty’s on a Wednesday for dinner with a couple of friends. The place was empty but it was pretty early still and the blazing sunshine outside might have had something to do with it. We availed of the value menu which provides a decent selection of starters and mains from the main menu. It’s around 21 for two courses and 24 for three. For starters I went for the lamb kebab which arrived on a very hot sizzling plate, the lamb was juicy and had lots of spice. One of my friends went for the chicken wings and I tried one but I thought they were lacking in a bit of flavour and on the small side. For main I had the chicken pahadi(I think.) which is chicken and potatoes in a spicy sauce. It was on the milder side of hot for my tastes, not that I minded but it didn’t really say on the value menu how hot each dish was. I love plenty of heat in my curries though so if you’ve a more sensitive palate it’s probably more of a medium. The chicken itself was perfect, it wasn’t over done and just pulled apart. For dessert I had the traditional nepali ice cream which had a very strange texture that I wasn’t used to but the mango flavour hit the spot after a curry. Towards about 7pm the place started to fill up a bit more, we had no reservation but the place is pretty small so you would be advised to make one if you’re planning on visiting at a weekend. Service was grand, one quiet waiter and one chatty one who seemed very excited that it was sunny out! In summary, very tasty, good value, two thumbs up!

It’s always fun going out for dinner with work, especially when they’re paying. I had been here 11 years ago and remember an excellent dining experience. Then last night I was pleasantly surprised when the food and the dining experience itself was so satisfying. We had the mid week special; 3 courses with wine for 2 for € 60. I had the meat starter and then the lamb dish. The waiter was very attentive and showed us how to eat our food with our hands. Only one of my colleagues decided to join me and go Nepalese, while the others looked on in mild disgust/amusement. Without going into great detail, great food(not mad about the desert though), great service and great atmosphere. I’d love to try the one in Rathgar, which is actually closer to home. I think I would really enjoy the cushions/low sofa style rather than sitting at the table. I’m so unsophisticated…

After trying the Taj Mahal, which was closed, we called in here. I hadn’t been before, It was a Tuesday and surprisingly upstairs was full so we were seated in the basement area. Nice restaurant inside. Good menu, not too big. The service was very good, and the owner called over to make sure we were okay. Food was tasty, but not mind blowing! No set menu which was disappointing on a Tuesday. The sharing platter for starters is worth a try. I had a lamb shish, which was good, and it was accompanied by a choice of sauces. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Yay, I’m a fan, but not of our waiter, who was probably the rudest person we encountered in Dublin by far. His attitude was horrendous, not inviting at all, telling us we had to hurry for the next reservation at 7:45, which was understandable, but then he just disappeared and took forever to serve us. It was like pulling teeth to get him to come over and refill our water. Then he just left us hanging and never brought over the check. It was only when we stood up and put on our coats that he came by. Not to mention there was no smile all night from him — not even a tiny one on that pudgy scowling face. Worst waiter ever. Then, at the end, he handed me his scanner thing to fill out the charge and print out the receipt for him — like he was too busy to take the time out to do it himself, like we weren’t important enough to even be bothered with. Terrible service. Ugh. As for the food though, it was delicious. Four stars. Ambience was lovely, as well. Low lighting, colorful decorations. Garlic Nan, Chicken curry(there’s a nepalese name for this, quite tasty). I got the Vegetable Special, and although it was good, I don’t think I would order it again. The sweet lassi I WOULD order again though. Maybe the waiters(or waiter, it really was just that one) would treat you better if you had a reservation? Or maybe your experience would be drastically different if you didn’t have scowl-face serving you? I wish I knew what we did to him. Or I hope he finds happiness in his life, somehow, somewhere. Price-wise the restaurant is… well, it’s pretty pricey. You’re probably going to pay 14 – 25 euros for one main dish. So, to recap. Food = delicious Service = Meh. I’ve experienced MUCH better.

I was always sceptical of Monty’s, the main reason being that it’s in Temple Bar, which is typically home to average, pricey establishments overrun with American tourists. Yet I was very pleasantly surprised when I finally ventured in here for dinner. I ordered the Chicken Gorkhali, a fiery, yogurt-based dish cooked with ginger, chilli and coriander, some of my all-time favourite ingredients. The curry was accompanied with a really good naan, perfect for scooping up the sauce. The prices certainly don’t reflect their Nepalese origins, but are definitely indicative of the good quality of the food and service.

What exactly is Nepalese food??? I wasn’t 100% sure when we went to Monty’s and to be honest, I still don’t know! I had Masu Ra Sag because I love spinach and it was very nice. Lots of the other dishes look like Indian meals, there’s masala and bhutan although admittedly they’re the Nepalese version. Great rice and lovely naan(I love naan) and all of the food is super fresh. It was pretty empty when we were here, just a couple of other tables full, so we got lots of attention from the waiters and had a really nice meal. Stayed on for chats until closing.

Monty’s is great because of the fact that it is a Nepalese restaurant, which is quite uncommon round these parts. It’s also great because the food is friggin good. That being said, deliciousness has its price and Monty’s, being so delicious, is pricey. Dinner ranges from 17 – 26 euros per entrée so it might be just a special treat now and again. It’s worth it though, because when have you ever had Nepalese food before? They even have one dish called Momo that has be ordered 24 hours in advance! I haven’t had the traditionally Tibetan chicken or vegetable dumplings, but I think it would be worth it to go just to have something that has to cook for so long. Something to write home about, perhaps.
