The caliber of teaching I got here is worth five stars.
The price, though, earns two stars.
It’s impossible to put objective value on a course, but they do charge quite a bit for four months of Saturdays. Compare Dublin to the Goethe Institut in Accra, where I’m about to move; classes are ¹⁄₈ of the price and include ¹⁄₃ more teaching time.
I think I lucked out big time with the teacher here — she was always prepared, enthusiastic, thorough, patient, and lovely. She helped us all make leaps and bounds of progress. The days we had substitutes were truly dreary in comparison. Do see if you’re at the right level to be taught by Tanja when you sign up for classes.
As a teacher myself, I enjoyed my time in Tanja’s classroom as an exemplar of great teaching. Without her, I wouldn’t have gotten an incredible score on my end-​of-​pre-​intermediate exam — I hope she gets a big bonus!

The Goethe Institute is a German cultural institute and provides courses in German at various levels. You can sign up to their evening courses, which can be done intensively or once a week throughout the year. They also provide courses for exams, small groups or individuals.
I’ve taken some courses there to improve and maintain my German and really it is the best place to do so with your outside mainstream education. They provide courses across the spectrum of learner levels and are really good at assessing your level if you’re not sure yourself. Their teachers tend to be interesting and tailor the classes to suit to the level and the type of learner. For example they’re not going to make adults learn with kids materials.
The courses themselves take place in this Georgian building which is central enough for most people to be able to reach after work. If you want to learn German this is the place to go.
