I have finally figured out how Funky Munky can sell their stuff so cheaply — they get in all the end-of-line stock that hasn’t sold in other shops, probably for next to nothing. The quality, range and appeal of the jewelery here reflects that fact. The other girls are right, it’s definitely the kind of place you get lured into for a bargain and end up buying a whole rake of bangles and necklaces that you’ll shove in a drawer somewhere never to be seen again, purely because they were only € 2 each. They can have a few nice pieces occasionally, and I have a lovely yellow glass necklace from here that always gets compliments(I’ve been told it was originally on sale in Dunnes Stores!).

Funky Munky is the kind of store where you’d end up buying something just because it’s a good deal. The jewelry here is really cheap, but it’s really nothing special. As you would expect, the quality is pretty bad. That being said, it can be a good place to pick something up if you’re in the mood to shop because it’s not like you’re going to accidentally impulse buy something and regret it later. It’s too cheap to regret, at least financially. Fashion-wise, you might be a bit ashamed of yourself in a few weeks time. They have some decent bangles that are 3 for 5 euros, and some hair accessories that are really just normal. Overall, I find the selection of plastic jewelry here uninspiring. You can do a lot better and Dunnes and Penney’s.

Funky Munky is a super cheap costume jewelry shop. They have a sparkling array of bangles, earrings and other jewelry and hair things, and most of them are on special offer. You can generally get three pieces for 5 or 10 euro, which means you can go wild and splurge without it hurting your wallet. I find that I pop in and buy some things, then forget about them and unearth them a few months or a year later and everyone thinks they’re fabulous. Great for sprucing up your accessories collection in a recession!

I have to put my 2 cents in too! Like Melanie and Alexandra, I was drawn into this shop by the crowds and the promise of cheap, exciting new accessories for my wardrobe. I have been in there a few times but have never found anything I would want to buy… I’m not sure why? Maybe it’s the neverending struggle to fight your way through the crowds to actually touch the jewellery, the poor lighting(you will notice I have a bit of a ‘thing’ for lighting) or the fact that the jewellery is that price for a reason? Not sure, but I won’t dwell on it. I imagine this store is more popular with a younger, ‘hipper’ crowd. I am getting on in years, I have to say ;-)

Like Melanie, I was drawn into this place because a) I love shopping for jewellery and b) its newness was intriguing and c) the sales advertised in the window. It was a bit of a disappointment and I didn’t see anything that I actually wanted. In comparison to other cheap jewellery shops, I would rank it higher than Accessorize but lower than the stuff you can find in H & M. There was a lot of plastic, cheap wood and tacky colours. I hope Funky Munky finds a way to survive and gets better stock because Dublin needs another jewellery shop, especially in the Grafton area.

I’m not really one for big chunky bangles or cheap plastic jewellery or accessorise or any sort of fashion jewellery but this new store with its shiny items called to me and I responded like a magpie! Lots on offer and at bargain prices too, 3 bracelets for € 5 or 4 necklaces for € 10, get for transforming any outfits, or so those fashion folk say!

Oh Funky Monkey… probably the cheapest jewellery shop ever, and recently moved from Wicklow St. to the far more visible Nassau St… so be warned — if you thought that its slightly hidden location before meant that you could wear their pieces and still be original, that’s kinda gone out the window. I would, however, take their prices for a wee bit less originality…3 bracelets for a fiver?! Happy days… Their jewellery generally is fashion-driven, yet surprisingly durable for what you pay. It’s the kind of place that you feel impelled to buy things, purely because they’re such a bargain it seems a crime not to(which is a ploy that seems to work with aplomb!) Even if you hate what you buy when you get home, you’ve probably picked it up for less than the price of a cup of coffee, so it’s no big loss… give it as a present to a friend and they’ll think you really care!
