As a teaching facility I’m sure Trinity’s dental school is excellent. The recent renovation work, housed inside a classic brownstone building, has opened up the main atrium, creating a light and bright space with revealing glass that puts the floors above on display. The waiting area is comfortable and well lit. The staff seem efficient and professional, and students work in the theatres and offices behind that huge museum-like entrance. There’s always a few local and student patients waiting to be seen inside –and they’re happy to wait too, as getting an appointment in here is rare. With student prices at € 55 per cavity and € 70 for other work, it’s no surprise that the waiting list here is over a year long. As the deeply unhelpful woman at the desk informed me, I(and my student spouse) would be better off going to a dentist in the area as we wouldn’t be seen here for YEARS. Of course, if he or I were in any pain we could TRY the A&E here and get in faster for € 60 covering all care. Try. Wait. Whatever. Since this is part of the great behemoth of TCD I shouldn’t be surprised there’s University-level red tape getting an appointment. So much for inexpensive dentistry.
