Poor service. whats the point of having an app if the bus drivers wont stick to the times the drivers are rube the cunts pull of when they see you running for the bus for shits and giggles. they do it to everyone young and old
The bus prices keep going up but the service is still shit. the 40 route the bus is always dirty and the drivers pick the route they take. they left my mother a woman of fifty out in the old at 11:30 at night because the driver wanted to finish his shift early and cut his route in half. Many other people on the bus complain to but he rudely forced them off.
Numerous times those busses have not come when supposed to rude drivers

Great for getting to and from the airport (€ 10 return) on the 747 service, and for getting around town. Get yourself a Leap card to tap on and off of bus, train and tram services to save on fares — get it from the Dublin Bus ticket office on O’Connell St. for € 5 deposit plus however much credit you want to use. Also available from newsagents but the one we went to gave us incorrect advice about using the card so best to get it from the official outlet! There’s also free wi-​fi on the buses.

Bus left without all passengers, even though half of all seats uptairs were empty but people were already standing downstairs. left 4 people on the street to wait for the next bus. Can the driver not see upstairs? 46a Sunday evening from D’ Olier St.

As I was too sleepy this morning to communicate with fellow human beings I hopped on the 145 at Wolfetone Quay and swiped my leapcard without greeting the driver.
«Hey…whereabouts are you going?» Says the driver.
«Shankill» says I. Its plausible that I did not look like I was going to study politics and human rights today.
To cut it long stories short it turns out the bus was only going as far as Belfield. The bus driver being a total pro refunded the cost of the journey back onto my leapcard (whilst I stood there in a total k. o stance not unseen in a Mortal Kombat video game) before furnishing me with details of the correct bus in 2 minutes and wished me a good day.
Yes I was one of those dickheads that would have passengers who actually read the front of the bus tutting this morning, so I said I would leave a 5 star review — the bus I am on now is clean, it has wifi and plenty of seats.
Perhaps the day will come where I am cruising in my Ford Mustang down the N11 but today is not that day and I am happy to use this service for the forseeable future!

Poor service, but they increase the fare as they have to cover for useless improvements. I don’t need Internet on board, I don’t need a smart LED sign on bus stop. What I need is more buses so I don’t have to wait the 4^th bus every day.
Hoping that a multinational takes over this circus.

For what its worth I think its grand. Every route or driver will differ, but 9 out of 10 times my driver is helpful, willing to answer questions, safe on the road, and most importantly… On time. I typically walk as much as I can in town, but the riding I do outside of The City Centre keeps me going.
If you’ve a smart phone, try the Dublin bus app. This is good on the go.
Also, consider a Leap Card. This card saves you 15% and leaves the hassle of coins out of it.

It got me to where I need to go in a reasonable amount of time. The service was good and most importantly they let me know what stop I needed to get off of. The fares were decent. I surprising enjoyed riding on this bus.

It may be the only bus service in the world with the power to turn back time, but that’s the definite impression I’ve got a few times now, when a two-​minute estimate on that nifty machine has, after two minutes, delivered not a bus but a turning back of the clock, to four minutes. Then, even once, six, then eight. Then something about road works.
Yeah, I know, real time, etc. But you can’t help feeling you wouldn’t get it in any of those Northern European countries that are always held up as prime examples of punctuality, working systems, order.
Disorder, I’ve often thought, is the order of the day in Dublin Bus.
There’s a really good chance if you state a destination that the driver will not know from Adam what your fare is. If there are fare increases, don’t expect to find that out the easy way, either.
Last week, no less than three ticket inspectors embarked on my northside-​to-​town bus. Two I could understand, but three? Between them, they tackled a scrawny down-​at-​heel bloke with his girlfriend’s pass. All sorts of shenanigans — calling the cops on the spot to validate his address, for instance. The air around them was fizzing with excitement, I swear. Like the guy had five quid in the world let alone the price of a fine.
If you embark the number 9 on O’Connell Street at the wrong time, around 11pm to be precise, you won’t be told that you’ll be waiting 30 minutes before it moves again. When you ask why the delay, the driver may scoff or may just answer you in that gruff presumptuous tone: ‘It’s the last bus.’ I’ve lived in Dublin all my life, God help visitors is all I can say, trying to decipher the unspoken nuance.
If your bus stops and takes a good long rest for itself at any time of the day, in fact, don’t expect to be given a reason. If you are bold enough to ask, still don’t expect to be given a reason. It’s usually to do with a change of shift and a driver who hasn’t turned up yet, or a bus that’s arrived ‘early’. But don’t expect to be told. You’re just a passive bum on a seat after all, why would you need to know? You can expect to wait for up to half an hour. If you complain, it won’t be the driver’s fault. If you complain complain — by letter or email to the customer service big guns — you’ll get a prompt reply. It will tell you that they value your feedback and will be back in touch on the specifics soon. Expect that to be the last you’ll hear from them.
So it’s all down to communication, as far as I can see. It’s not top priority for the management of Dublin Bus. They don’t really give all that much of a toss for the consumer. If they did, they’d invest a little — and really, it doesn’t take a lot — in pinning down some basics of customer service.
Some bus drivers are nice — though these days most of them look a bit bogged off — but that’s just it: if they’re nice, it’s just because they are. There’s no ethos of nice at Dublin Bus. Or even decent. And I’d say it’s a tough job — so unless ethos is created from the top down, it’s probably not going to blossom over night of its own accord. And the days when drivers had a conductor companion were probably just a bit more craic all round — company and all that. It did feel friendlier then.
For all that, I remain a fan of the bus. Where else do you get to earwig quite so closely on old ladies chat? — those tough old birds who form their own mini-​empire in daytime Dublin. They tell each other the best stories, and regularly go into a surprising level of detail about their lives, troubles (often though the more steady focus will be on the troubles of others, ‘God help them’), and family histories.
Just this morning I overheard one tell another about how her mother never knew that her own husband was twenty years’ older than her ‘until the day he died. Sure he still had the big shock of curly brown hair in his forties, never went grey. How would she have known?’ Pure gold.
Then there’s the hilarious ‘smoking is an offence’ recorded message. Like a disembodied voice is going to make someone extinguish their fag — when a human being doesn’t make a blind bit of difference. I think they sometimes even play it in Irish, which is funnier still.
There’s the whole ambiguity about whether those middle doors really are for disembarking, which regularly lends itself to near misses as those standing against them are surprised when they open.
And time travel. Where else would you get it? Dublin Bus — in fairness, it could go a long way to getting just a little bit better.

‘Schrödinger’s Bus’: a bit of quantum mechanics that is essential when using Dublin Bus. As soon as the bus shows up on the realtime timetable, it is both due to arrive in just a moment and unavoidably delayed. You need to treat the bus as existing in both states or else your head will explode. Also, the bus will kill your cat.
Anyway, I’m not a big fan of Dublin Bus, but like bolognese sauce and a white shirt, we’re intractably linked. My tips for dealing with DB:
1. Get an app, there’s a bunch of them. You’ll be able to find alternate routes quickly and easily and not lose your mind dealing with the realtime timetable.
2. Expect delays. Dublin Bus is so dedicated to delays that they’ll create them for no reason. As you pass through the centre of the city, your bus will randomly stop for a prolonged period for no reason, just to wind up customers. Or so it seems.
3. Say «Thank You» to the bus-​driver. I know you won’t always mean it, but just do it. It’ll cheer everyone, including yourself, up.
As bad as Dublin Bus can be, it does have the thankless task of trying to shuttle people around the warren of streets that make up the city and it surroundings. As long as you don’t put your life in their hands, you’ll get along fine.

Dublin Bus — it took you soooo long to get with the modern age and now you are f***ing it up.
Seriously, sort it out!

Dublin bus… sigh. The biggest problem with Dublin bus is the lack of customer service and the attitude of some drivers, if you have any issues with the service there seems nowhere to complain or to have your issue addressed.
I have waited several time more than 40 minutes for several buses that are meant to come every 10 — 15 mins. There are some of the older buses on my route, so the buses are a bit tatty and worse for wear.
Some drivers are extremely unhelpful and just plain rude. They seem to like questions about routes and fares which boggles my mind as they are the bus driver.
Dublin bus is a necessary evil. :(

Cheaper than Aircoach.
They seem to go a bit of a random way into town.
Not as comfy as Aircoach.
If you want to save a couple of euro on a single ticket you might want to use them. A return is the same price on Aircoach and they are much better.

Oh Dublin Bus… How I want to like you. I mean, you take me places, sometimes… when you bother showing up or stopping, even when I and two others have our hands out to let you know we are waiting for you.
Now to be fair, I understand you have a lot of people to serve. You are like McDonalds that way. I mean I hate their food, but at least they get it right 95% of the time and it comes in a timely fashion. Which is sort of the opposite of you. I like you but you get it wrong more often than not. I cannot tell you how many times I have been late to class or an appointment because the 17 just didn’t feel like showing up when it was supposed to or the 15b, which was next empty, has blown right past me, despite my flaying arms. I mean half the time trying to wave one of you down I look as if I am having a seizure, and yet, 30% of the time you still don’t stop for me. I would gladly buy you flowers or petrol to make up for what ever it is I have done to you.
Also… Your drivers. Most are amazing and were really helpful when trying to navigate during my first few weeks here. However, to the bus driver who actually rolled his eyes when I asked if a bus I was unaccustomed to take went a certain route, I have this to say; «Your mother was right. If you keep making that face, the wind will change directions and your face will get stuck like that and it is really hard to pick up girls if it looks like you are rolling your eyes at them» (Ok so that last bit is mine)
My only consolation is: you are cheaper and slightly, only SLIGHTLY mind you, more reliable the public transit in the town I grew up in. However that is still not enough to get you three stars.
I would threaten to find a new way of getting around, but we both know they would be empty threats. So please. I am begging you… just a little more efficiency would make me happy.

I think more people should find out that we can review DublinBus…
I’ve been kicked off at 11pm for being in a large group and the bus driver letting too many people on and there not being enough seats. We all got kicked off and we did not get our money back, nor had the bus left the stop.
I’ve been kicked off at 11pm for being in a large group and singing – we looked it up the next day and there is a no singing rule. Random. We were close enough that we could walk to town.
I’ve had the bus driver let half the group off and then shut the door and go to another stop (that we are pretty sure is not part of the buses route).
I’ve had a bus driver tell me and my friends to get out of his town because he hates tourists (we live here and are just international).
The new time schedule does not work – I left my apartment when it said online that a bus was 5 minutes away (it stops at my door step). The sign outside said 25 minutes. One came in 15 minutes.
However, the bus drivers tend to be nice (during the day) and will help you out if you do not know where you are going (thus they get 2 stars instead of 1).

My bus comes every 10 minutes. On the dot. It’s great.
That’s the good.
The bad is that in Winter, the buses are rarely heated sufficiently so you end up arriving at your destination with a cold… and Typhus (or cholera on a bad day) from the other passengers.
As the other reviewer said, the drivers are a mixed bunch and that’s not okay. Some of them are great and will go out of their way to help you, while others can be ignorant or downright rude to the passengers they are carrying. Dublin Bus need to emphasize more that driving is only half the job when providing training.

The really important thing when you change the nitelink stops is to make sure you don’t put up any notices about it, make sure your staff have no idea, and make sure you don’t update your websites!
The nitelinks on college green have been moved. Some of them appear to be on D’olier st, others, including mine, seem to have vanished. Importantly the dubin bus website says they still leave every half hour from college green. I asked a driver, he told me the stops were all changed yesterday, and to ask an inspector. I couldn’t find an inspector. After searching all the places I thought the stop might have moved to, trying to avoid the leering drunks and the aggressive drunks — just the thing every girls wants to do when she’s on her own in the middle of the night, I just gave up and got a taxi I couldn’t afford. In fairness to my taxi driver he dropped me all the way home, even though I asked him to drop me when the meter was approaching the limit of money in my pocket.

Efficient!
I have seen some of the staff help tourists and they have great patience and are a credit to the customer service of Dublin Bus.
All that business aside I have to comment on the buildings façade: ugly! Does not connect to the buildings on either side and needs an absolute overhaul. Spend some of your profits on keeping O’Connell street up to a good standard!

I think the Dublin Bus is good in general but I have a few key complaints. First the good stuff.
I think that the Dublin Bus does a great job of providing public transportation in a city without a major underground system and expensive taxis.
The Dublin Bus network is vast, and many buses travel along similar routes, diverging at certain points to head off in different directions. This is great because once you get a feel for the different routes, you don’t have to wait for a specific bus, just the next one that you know will take you where you need to go. There are A LOT of buses, though, so figuring out and remembering which one goes where is another story entirely!
Now the bad. The bus is way too expensive. Maybe it is so pricey because the service is so large. But still, for the primary mode of public transportation in a city, it’s too much money.
Their routes are not mapped. Anywhere. Thus, it is quite difficult to figure out where a bus goes, even if you’re looking at the timetable. It’s not horrible, but it makes life a little more complicated.
They don’t have a card that you can top up and use over and over again. So if you don’t have a pass, you have to pay exact change every time. This is a major cause of anxiety for me.

Dublin Bus serves Dublin city and county and adjoining areas. Bus routes in Dublin are not known by their destination, that would be too easy and practical, but instead they are known by their number. How very confusing for visitors but known off by heart of every OAP in sight! So, if in doubt, as a granny.
Buses don’t stop at stops automatically you have to put your hand out to signal you want the bus to stop and not all buses stop at all stops even if they drive by the stop, so check the information at the bus stops to makes sure you are at the right one!
You can buy many prepaid tickets and travel cards but these really are just for convenience and don’t save you much money at all. Fares range from 1.15euron for three stages to 2.20euro for a longer journey. The bus man will tell you how much to pay or just always pay the minimum amount as nobody checks tickets any more!
