I haven’t been into a Café Sol in a long time for two reasons. 1) Their coffee became so extravagantly overpriced of which the standard of coffee provided did not compare, so I switched coffee house. 2) Their sandwiches, of which some were quite good value, I found the fillings use had deteriorated in quality somewhat. So I switched sandwich house. Today I found myself passing the Lower Hatch Street branch of Café Sol when my tummy started rumbling, so I decided to go in. After much deliberation I settled for the goats cheese wrap, which was also filled with red onion marmalade, roasted peppers, red onion and baby spinach on a tomato wrap. And it was lovely, I would definitely go out of my way to try another one. My server, however, was a bit abrupt when I asked where the napkins were. I did look around and it was not apparent where they where. I know some businesses in the food industry keep their napkins behind the counter to keep costs down, so I asked. He barked at me that they were behind me, but the sandwich fridge was behind me. He meant they were in the other room, which was not behind me. He could have said by the front door, which I would be passing through when I leave with my take away purchase. A star dropped for that, ho hum.

Two words, Chocolate. Muffin. If your lucky enough to get a hot one even better ! The things are massive and well tasty. Enough about the muffin though, this Café Sol is a nice little coffee shop, just around the corner from my office, serving really nice coffee and cakes, although the sambas may be a little over priced ! Staff seem to be on the ball too. Only problem I have with Café Sol is the fact it’s so close to my job… one of these days I’ll turn into a feckin chocolate muffin !

Opposite my office so in every day. Great value — sandwiches from € 2.75 and tomato soup € 1.50 — and fairly friendly staff. Their chocolate muffins are best I’ve found in Dublin!

I was surprised to not find this particular Café Sol listed as it’s easily my favourite. It’s location is perfect. In the city yet perched just off the hustle and bustle so that you can take a moments respite from the noise. You are less then 5 mins from Stephens green and in the opposite direction you have the canal, so if you get a coffee to go you have ‘quiet time’ choices. The building is old and has character, it’s roomy enough inside and has outside seating. Interior is white and clean, popular spot with the local office workers. Coffee is strong and good. Service is pleasant.
