Christmas holidays and off with the kids to Bray. A friend of mine and her daughter, and my 2 sons and I had a great time in Sealife and decided to treat the kids to lunch out. Not knowing Bray well at all, we strolled down the seafront and came across Jim Doyle’s. It was warm and welcoming and a friendly waitress greeted the 3 kiddies with a smile — always promising! The kids shared 2 portions of homemade chicken goujons and fries and my friend and I had a bowl of really tasty and delicious homemade vegetable soup, and a chicken Caesar salad. The salad was nice but not the best I’ve had. Raw peppers have no place in a Caesar salad in my opinion, but the bacon was crisp, the chicken marinated and delicious and the dressing(on the side of course) was fresh and flavoursome. The kids goujons were absolutely gorgeous, clearly freshly made, crisp breadcrumb coating and nothing but chicken fillet inside. I’d visit again when I am in the area, they had quite an extensive menu.

Ever since my granny passed away these kind of dinners don’t come around that often. Then again this is Unilocal so I will shelve the grief and hop to reviewing the beef… A sunny afternoon during a late Indian September Summers day well spent sat in the beer garden of Jim Doyle & Sons local pub. The roast beef dinner you get here for € 11.95 is bovinely beautiful in taste, texture, presentation and size. None of your scabby portions of Beef here, its a portion fit for a King which was as tender as an Elvis Presley number and also a hell of a lot leaner depending on the year… They do 3 pints of Guinness for € 12.50 aswell if you pay upfront, you get little plastic tokens to pay for your drink if you go for one of these package deals. Luckily on this particular time share the sun was on our side too, which paved the way for a majestic afternoon sinking Arthurs finest watching the sunset in Bray. I think the picture literally speaks for itself and it cries«EATME… DRINKME». Sometimes Bray can be a bit of a wonderland(weather permitting) even if nobody knows who the Fork Alice is ;-)

I recently decided with some friends to head down to Bray. After our hike up Bray Head we were understandably starving so we decided to try Doyle’s in Bray. When you first walk in, it seems a lot smaller then it actually is, because they have a larger space in the back. The food was delicious– I can definitely recommend the Chillibeef wrap and their chips were great as well. The service was fast and efficient and the staff super-friendly. We stayed on for a few pints after to watch the Rugby as well and there was a great atmosphere– pretty much like down at your local. Absolutely worth the trek down to Bray!
