Pretty decent spot to grab some lunch while we were killing 7 hours and cramming between exams at the RDS! Glorious day so we sat outside and the waiter was just lovely, really attentive. Two of my friends got paniniswhich they really enjoyed and the wedges that came with were delish, perfectly crispy. I had a ham toastie and soup which comes with a pile of Hunky Dory’s and was ideal. It’s an impressive lunch menu, despite us going for bog standard grub, and really great value. Definitely pop back in after the next exam!

I find the food here quite poor. I got the soup which was average and the burger and chips which I must say were quite tasteless. Normally I wouldn’t take a breath between bites at dinner time but at the moment I’m writing a review. At € 11 for a piece of mince on a bun; I’m left underwhelmed. On the upside the staff are lovely and the place is clean.

I was only here for less than an hour but I tried a beer from the bar. It was around 4 euros and the bartenders were friendly. I like how there are tables outside. We brought a pizza from BASE next door and ate it outside with our drinks. It’s a cool laid back place. Thanks for not kicking us out for bringing food. This happened to me in Hong Kong and if only all places could be as chill as Dublin! :)

I met my friend here for dinner yesterday evening. It’s a great atmosphere for a pub at that time of the day. Dark wooden floors and a fire at the back, office workers drinking their pints. I got the salmon and apple salad for 9 euro. Very good value for the money, the plate was heaped with food, it was very simple and tasty, just what I expected. The lady behind the bar would pop in and out the front door to another pub next door. She works both pubs! That’s impressive. Only bone of contention was the play-list, listening to the best of Irish tunes got a tad cheesy, I think Enya and James Galway need to rolled out only when you are jarred & sitting alone homesick in some foreign land or else when you are at some nutso meditation retreat, like Eddie in Ab Fab, in a desert with people with too much money and not enough sense.

When is Paddy Cullen’s not Paddy Cullen’s? When it’s Mary Macs. Right in the heart of Ballsbridge this is for those seeking a smaller, intimate almost rural environment compared with the much larger parent pub next door. The décor betrays all the signs of being part of the pint and sport watching circuit. But for all you conscious objectors to all things rugby there are a number of great photos from GAA moments — with pride of place given to Meath/Dublin clashes. I can recommend it as a meeting place, though it can get crowded later on perhaps best experienced at weekend afternoons.

Best toasted sandwiches and soup in Dublin 4. Cosy atmosphere and cosy little pub make it a perfect fit.
