The food had zero flavor and the meat was dry in mine and my husbands meal we hardly ate any of our food. The only reason I gave it two stars was because our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Just if you know what real Mexican food is, don’t come here.

IT’S STILLTHATGOOD. It still beats out Caliente– even though they are right next to each other. Try the burritos, fantastic. Then even better is the wait staff for guam. They are FANTASTIC!

Carmen’s never disappoints although having eaten there recently, I didn’t realize how much they have increased their food prices. Guam’s food prices are definitely increasing but you also see a vast amount of restaurants slowly decrease in sales, maybe because prices are a bit steep. Chips and dip are always at the table which is a big plus. Delicious homemade salsa verde and hot sauce as well. I got a mahi fish taco for $ 7.00 which had a good amount of condiments but instead of just giving 1 tortilla, why not two? Its a good amount of fish, but not enough tortilla which encouraged me to order an extra one for 50cents.

Seems like Carmen lost a step in her Cha Cha Cha. I was never a fan and always used it as a default to caliente’s when they were too busy or closed(like last night) but will not be back. My third time there and I have pretty much tasted everything they have to offer. They use the old Guam modus operandi of bad food big portions like House of Chin Fe and other bad restaurants. We ordered the nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and the chile rellenos this go around and were disappointed with all four. For a $ 50 meal it left us feeling cheap and used and that we should’ve just gone across the street to Taco Bell. The Cha Cha Cha is gone and is more like Cha Cha Sh*t!

Came for lunch, still not the best on the island! Casa Bontia’s beats all the Mexican places on island. The food wasn’t cooked all the way, the beans were hard and my cheese enchiladas tasted like I was putting raw shredded cheese in my mouth. The red sauce was good though, but the mild salsa wasn’t mild and tasted horrible. I gave it a 3 because the service was good and it’s a nice restaurant. It’s too overpriced for the food quality.

Went back for my second time. Tortillas are good so is rice. Ordered fajitas and wife had shrimp tacos. Fajitas werent seasoned properly but a very large portion and shrimp tacos tasted funny. Like japanese curry and they used those tiny bay shrimp. Service was excellent but food didnt match. I will give them one more shot later

Carmen’s has that homely feel. It must be because I have always enjoyed her food since she was at the Chamorro Village. It’s good Mexican food with huge portions that can easily be wrapped to go and eaten later. Her home made flour tortillas are yummy, but I always go for the Carne Asada or the Burrito. I’m not a fan of her Choco Flan or her Horchata. Both don’t look or taste authentic, but it is a minor drawback since you may be too full to have dessert or don’t want to fill up on drinks. I think their only down fall is hearing the staff get yelled at by Carmen herself. I understand that it is her restaurant, but it reminds of being a kid and having your friend get in trouble by their mom… right in front of you.

I recently ate here for the 200th time, and realized this establishment isn’t given the credit it deserves from the local community, so here is my two cents about the awesomeness that is Carmen’s: I lived in California a little over three years ago, in one of America’s most diverse cities, Sacramento. One could only begin to imagine how spoiled I was with my Mexican food, as Mexicans made up most of the population in this city. The Mexican food was one of the reasons I enjoyed living in Sacramento so much. Before leaving Guam, I had never visited Carmen’s, but I was in for quite a surprise when I finally got the chance to try it upon moving back home. The ambiance, the service, the food, everything is awesome. Some people claim Carmen’s «isn’t Mexican enough» when in fact, there are so many different ways of cooking Mexican food. Mexico is a huge country, so the cooking techniques are bound to change from border to border. It may not be «Mexican enough» to many people, but to me, it is perfect. The always friendly and welcoming head chef and owner, Carmen(go figure), who also happens to be a native of Mexico City(yes, in Mexico), has compiled the perfect menu to bring a taste of her home country to this tiny island in the Pacific. Her choices of tequilas and wines fuse perfectly with the variety of meats and seafoods offered on her menu. If you do decide to go, I highly recommend the Pescado(seared mahi mahi) with Mexican rice, or the Chicken Fajitas. The Chilaquiles soup is delicious, too. If you go during lunch hours and you’re looking for something light, the Mango Wrap is always perfect. The price may be a little steep for the local community, but personally, I don’t mind paying a few extra bucks for quality food. Also, Mexican music is ALWAYS playing through their speakers, so you’re forced to feel«Mexican-y».(If you like exploring venues like I do, small stuff, like the music, matters to you). If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the entire«Como La Flor» album by Selena playing while you eat! ENJOY!

I am Mexican and I have been trying to find a good Mexican restaurant and I have to say that this is by far my number one choice for whenever I want something to make me feel at home. :) The service is amazing and the food is amazing as well. I have tried Calientes as well but the service for me was horrible and it really didn’t taste as good as Carmen’s. I love this place and would definitely recommend.

The best Mexican restaurant that I have been to, ever. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting the island.

No. If they changed the name then maybe. But there is clearly nothing Mexican or anything close to it associated with this restaurant. Maybe call it Carmen’s «island fusion not really Mexican but we do serve Guacamole that isn’t all that bad unless you are looking for food with flavor» restaurant. The service is good, but don’t go here expecting Mexican, Mexican food.

Another lunch visit… service was so fast! Still think a quick lunch menu is needed. Food should come altogether and not auctioned off. The service was good!!! And, the food is always delicious. The tortillas remind me of tortillas I had growing up… delicious! You can take some home, too.

Awesome place, definitely recommend coming to this place. It’s a combination of Mexican with awesome. I came, I ate, and I conquered what felt like a 3 lb burrito with beans and rice. I had the chicken burrito which look like the massive forearm of a Aztec warrior. I can remember it like it was yesterday. The waitress was extremely fast with our drinks, it was she made them appear out of the air. Me and my 4 famished companions were astonished. Quickly the chips and salsa appeared, again, as if was born from the clouds. Then came our orders for our meals. I asked as any warrior worth his salt would who has a hunger only that can be satisfied by the gods themselves, « Waitress! What is the largest dish that this establishment serve?!!» She pointed at label on the menu that read«plate 3». I had my doubts about it, but I confidently replied, «bring me this massive dish you describe!» My companions and I laughed and joked for a few moments when then out of nowhere a storm appeared. Out of this storm we witnessed the most massive food portions We have ever seen. It was like a scene from 300, when Xerxes is being lifted by his slaves. Except we were the Spartans amazed of what we are witnessing. In place of Xerxes was our orders. It was a sight only divine creatures could explain. As soon as I took a bite of my massive plate 3 burrito, I felt a jolt of lightning of flavor rush and arouse my taste buds in a sensation that could only be explained as, «A eagle screaming ‘Merica!, souring across the Appalachian Mountains with a pair of blue polarized Ray Ban Aviators, carrying the skull of a recent enemy.» We were all defeated by the deliciousness and the colossal size of our meals. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who has the intestinal fortitude to try some delicious Mexican food in Guam.

Ugh. NOT mexican food. I’m from Cali and this is just mexican done all wrong. For mexican food a little bit more like home, go to Caliente instead. Edit: okay, this is ISLAND-MEXICANFUSION cuisine. Anyone looking and expecting authentic Mexican will definitely be disappointed going here. If you’re into that, give this place a chance. For me… just didn’t do it for me and I think could be done a lot better. Will not be going back.

The service was great. Table was visited multiple times during the meal and the food was fresh and hot. Very flavorful. As authentic Mexican as is can get in Guam! The chips and salsa, the salsa was so good! I highly recommend. And I will definitely visit again.

Although I agree with some reviews that the food isn’t «authentic,» the food is always yummy. The past several times I’ve been here, I ended up getting my favorite — their shrimp taco. Delicious and filling enough for 1 person(especially after munching on chips and salsa). Quick, excellent customer service. Appreciated that the staff did not once rush us to check out, even while we were still at our table 30 mins after closing time(Ooops!).

Carmen’s Mexican Restaurant was alright to the say the least. It did not have the authentic taste or the flare that I’ve come to expect in most Mexican restaurants. Although, I will admit their waiters and waitresses were rather friendly and were able to accommodate everyone in our group. The restaurant, as a whole, just seemed to lack the authenticity that I find in traditional Mexican restaurants. Okay, I guess I am being kind of harsh on Carmen’s. I am in Guam after all. It is not like I am in my step mother’s kitchen enjoying fresh refried beans and homemade flour tortillas.(My stepmom is Mexican, if it is not too obvious.) But, I feel like some dishes should bear the same consistency within the restaurant. For example, the chip and salsa was rather fresh and delicious. The pico de gallo was chucky and pretty authentic. On the other hand, the enchiladas I ordered were kind of dry and flavorless. My friend ordered a salad, which looked alright. Needless to say, I found this restaurant to be kind of bland. I just did not really enjoy the food or the atmosphere. In my opinion, I liked some portions of the restaurant. So to be fair, I give it three stars.

Best Mexican food on Guam. The spices in the Chicken soft tacos are just right. I can’t complain about the homemade salsa either!

I have to agree that this place misses the target a bit. The service was okay. The lengthy wait was what turned my tummy as well as the undercooked Chimichangas. The should be crispy and crunchy. The salsa is okay but needs cilantro andd heat o go with the garlic. My coworkers had fish tacos that looked astounding. Lots of food but a little bland.

Mexican food on Guam is absolutely slim pickings. The top spots seem to be Carmen’s and Caliente. After an extensive study of the two restaurants, I have to say, Carmen’s wins hands down. First, it’s a restaurant. Not a to-go cafeteria pretending to be a restaurant. Second, the service is always friendly and great. The servers are nice, funny, and thoughtful and can oftentimes give great recommendations. Also… two words — Calamansi Mojito. Get into it! But what takes the cake is even my father who has lived in California for the past several decades and loves Mexican cuisine and will go to any hole in the wall, shack, truck, etc to find tasty offerings, was legitimately impressed by the caliber(for an island) of burritos they offered. Definitely a favorite of mine and if ever I find myself on Guam again, would be one of the few places I’d be happy to return to.
