Palais Royal – Serge Lutens

Ah, the Paris boutique. The moment I booked my European flight, I knew I needed to visit and pick up my bell jar bottle of Encens et Lavande. And I did. With great joy, even.
Onto the boutique itself, unfortunately. While I like the whole mysterious atmosphere of the boutique and the display of limited edition bell jars that I can no longer purchase. I found the service to be disappointing.
I guess this Chinese-​American is just used to being bombarded by ever so eager sales associates the moment I walk into a fragrance department (I’m looking at you, Bergdorf). But there was only one associate who was helping out a client (which I didn’t mind), but you know… a hello or welcome would be nice.
She left my girlfriend and I alone until I asked plainly for a bottle to purchase.
Did I not dress appropriately? Maybe I did. Should’ve definitely dressed up like I was going to throw down some greens at the cologne boutique.

This is a magical little store and it can be difficult to find but the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and I highly recommend the trip if you are near Paris and a fan of Serge Lutens. There is nothing quite like this boutique and I have fond memories of it whenever I wear a Luten’s fragrance.

Most people seem to review the brand or actual items for sale rather than the store when it comes to reviews of a store.
So, here’s what — if I wanted a review of a brand of perfume, shoes or clothes, I probably wouldn’t consult Unilocal (but then again, I wouldn’t consult Unilocal for much these days).
In any case, yes, Serge Lutens is the house for the most interesting, unique and complex scents. They’re sold in the US as well at Barney’s and other boutique shops. The 50 ml rectangular bottles can often be found for a discount on Amazon even. However, the Bell Jars, which are exclusively available at Barney’s, will cost your life in the US ($ 280-​$ 300 for a bottle of 75 ml or 2.5 fl oz). They are 130 – 140 euros in Paris. Since I’m such a ballin international jetsetter, I came here to pick up a bottle for myself and a bottle for a friend.
Now, somewhere on the net, a perfume blogger wrote a review of the shop which made it seem like THE destination, a den of perfumes where a perfume lover may luxuriate in the various scents on offer.
So, here is where I realized I could never be a blogger. I never could have written that review after visiting this shop — I just don’t have the imagination. Even that last paragraph took some effort to compose now that I’ve experienced the anti-​climax of visiting the shop.
Here’s the thing, it’s still worthwhile to trek out to the shop if you intend on purchasing a Serge Lutens. Purchases here will be packed with the envelope of 32 wax samples of Serge Lutens scents — as far as I know, this is the only place where you can get these.
The store is underwhelming. The composition is the same as what appears in press photos but the actual store looks a lot less romantic if that makes any sense. It’s a very ordinary store that serves its purpose if you’re looking to buy a bottle of perfume, but if you’re expecting an experience, I would recommend Jovoy, which is close by and has a huge variety of rare and niche perfumes. The sales associates are all super knowledgeable and you can spend HOURS here. Really, it’s brilliant. Bön Marche, or the Beaute building of Printemps both also have a wider range of perfumes you may wish to buy in Paris. If you get two bottles of anything, you’ll even be able to claim a VAT refund, which will save you some more money.

Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido scheinen wenig bekannt zu sein. In den Arkaden des Palais Royal gelegen, betritt man eine eigene Welt. Gediegenheit, Luxus und eine Farborgie aus Lavendel empfangen einen. Ich bin durch einen Artikel in der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung aufmerksam geworden. Es wurde der créateur parfumeur Serge Ludens portraitiert und da durfte natürlich der Hinweis auf den Salon von Shiseido nicht fehlen, da Ludens für diese Firma jahrelang Parfums komponiert hat. Einige dieser Creationen kann man nur hier kaufen; ein Erlebnis. Andere Parfums kann man auch in ausgesuchten Parfümerien und sogar in den Parfumerieabteilungen einiger Kaufhäuser erwerben. Sie tragen so erhabene Namen wie Sa Majesté la Rose (Ihre Majestät die Rose). Die Düfte sind dezent und einzigartig. Wer Freude an der hohen Kunst der Parfumeure hat, sollte beim nächsten Paris Besuch hier vorbeischauen.

Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido est une parfumerie imaginée par l’artiste parfumeur Lutens, auteur du premier parfum de la marque. Shiseido lui offrit ensuite la possibilité d’ouvrir ce lieu, au coeur des Jardins du Palais Royal, pour créer d’autres oeuvres d’art olfactives.
Il faut oser pousser la porte… pour découvrir ce décor magique, d’un autre temps.

Serge Lutens est une marque qui appartient au groupe Shiseido. Je l’ai découverte il y a quelques années. Les Salons du Palais Royal sont un écrin de senteurs fabuleux. Au-​dessus de la boutique, le laboratoire du nez Serge Lutens. Ses parfums au noms évocateurs (Ambre Sultan, À la Nuit, Arabie, Sa Majesté la Rose…) sont tout aussi envoûtant que leurs noms. Des senteurs singulières fortes qui nous font tourner la tête de bonheur. Je suis une inconditionnelle de ces odeurs et j’attends impatiemment chacune des nouveautés ! filez découvrir ce lieu si ce n’est pas déjà fait.

Serge Lutens, c’est un rêve devenu réalité. Une légende devenue Histoire. Un passé devenu présent. on n’est plus jamais tout à fait le ou la même quand on a fait la rencontre avec ces parfums. Enfin des parfums qui parlent de nous, qui parlent pour nous. Une visite aux Salons du Palais Royal fait déjà partie du mystère, de l’exception.
