Le Royal Turenne

Yeah, so this café does tend to cater to tourists.
But don’t let that fool you. I live in the neighborhood, and find the service welcoming and non-​condescending to those of us who are less than fluent in French. They make accommodation for me and my sizable crutches.
The food is decent.
But the chocolat chaud is to die-​for. Could give Les Deux Magots a run.
Go. Relax. Enjoy.

We stopped here for a meal knowing nothing about this brasserie. We had a lovely experience and came back twice to enjoy the warm, helpful, and attentive wait staff, the high quality of the food, and the very pleasant ambience. We especially enjoyed the soupe a l’oignon, the mousse au chocolat, and the cheeseburger, as well as the selection of wines. We will definitely come here next time we’re in Paris. Highly recommended for a casual meal!

Came here for lunch as had been shopping in the area.
I only had a starter and wine as we had dinner plans later. L’escargots were fabulous — lovely and garlicky. As I am gluten free then I brought my own bread.
Portions are huge! My friend ordered the goats cheese salad and a massive salad with bacon, veggies, cheese and bread arrived. He done it justice but it was a bit of a struggle towards the end!
Service — no issues. Tables are pretty close together and we asked to be moved from the original table they planned to give us as it was a tiny space.
Looked like locals hanging out at Sunday lunch which is always a good sign!

Nous sommes tombé sur le Royal Turenne par pur hasard, et face a une carte bien alléchante on s’est laissé séduire.
Il y a une grande terrasse chauffée mais pour une fois nous avons préféré diner dans la saĺle, typique des anciens cafés parisiens, avec malheureusement une très légère odeur de poissecaille.
On nous place a une petite table discrète, on se laisse séduire par une soupe a l’oignon et un camembert rôti en entrée, la soupe était délicieuse! Pour une fois qu’on nous sert une soupe a l’oignon avec de brais morceaux de pain, du fromage en quantité et qui n’est pas noyée dans l’eau! Très agréable surprise.
En plat, on se laisse seduire par le plat du jour: faux filet au bleu avec gratin dauphinois. C’est un delice, viande incroyablement tendre, cuisson parfaite, le gratin dauphinois accompagne a la perfection!
On etait presque déçus de né plus avoir de place pour le dessert!
Une mention toute spéciale a la bouteille de vin que nous avons pris (né jamais se laissé aller) et qui etait vraiment bon!

I find it to be an overrated Brasserie and I was taken aback by the prices. There’s also a strong arrogance by the waitstaff that I was not pleased by.

La première fois que j’ai franchi la porte du Royal Turenne était en 1993. Très saitisfait du lieu j’ai continué à m’y rendre chaque fois que j’étais à Paris. Bien que parfois il y avait un écart de 5 – 6 mois entre mes visites le personnel me reconnaissait chaque fois et né me traitait pas de touriste et les plats étaient toujours bon.
Puis il y a quelques années le lieu a connu un premier changement. On y voyait de plus en plus de touristes et de moins en moins de parisiens. Le personnel était toujours plus sympa que dans bcp d’autres établissements mais au fil des années les clients devenaient de plus en plus un numéro. Mais aussi longtemps que la qualité des plats restait bonne ça né genait pas.
Malheureusement ma plus récente visite sera également la dernière. Le lieu est devenu un attrape touriste. La viande était oké, les frites semblaient venir de chez McDo et la sauce au poivre ressemblait à une de ces sauces en poudre auquel il faut ajouter de l’eau et tous cela pour des prix qui sont condidérablement plus hauts qu’ailleurs.

Can’t understand some recent negative reviews. We visit Paris every year for several weeks and eat at many Bistros and Brassaries. The Royal Turenne is better than most. Its location and large terrace at a busy crossroad near the place des Voges makes it a prime locale for the people watching that is so much a part of Paris life. The food is excellent. Great and huge salads. The steaks, which I ordered on three occasions were far superior to any I have eaten at many Parisian Bistros, including ones recommended by famous food critics. The waiters are multi-​lingual, friendly, and efficient. It is not cheap, but show me a decent restaurant in Paris that is.
Ownership of this Brassarie changed hands several months ago and some reviewers worried that quality would decline. Not so! I frequented the Royal Turenne when it was under its old management and it was a good experience. Now it is even better.

This restaurant, once upon a time one of my favorite brasseries in Paris has become just plain lousy and down right unpleasant. Miserable, inattentive and surly service. Food now worse than mediocre. It used to be packed with locals. It no longer is. Small wonder. I dragged my family over in the rain, remembering how good it used to be. We all said: Never Again. Avoid.

My wife and I got the hungries on a recent trip through Paris and this place looked inviting enough for us to stop in. They welcomed us just fine, as there were only a handful of patrons for an early lunch. I ordered the crepes sucre, which was underwhelming and unsatisfying. My coffee was decent, but my wife’s decaf was terrible. Nescafe powder with some rancid water. She and I each took one sip to confirm how rancid it was. We tried to get the attention of the waiter to complain, he intoned that we would have to speak with the owner. She finally approached after a few minutes and gave us a look that said «too bad». In my broken French and their broken English, we tried to get the $ 5 taken off the tab. They began to argue that ‘we should have known better’ than to order decaf. REALLY? We’ve had good, REALLY good decaf in Paris already. Theirs was just terrible. It went downhill from there, they refused to do anything about it and we walked away pissed off (and me still hungry). Skip it, skip it, skip it.

3.5 stars for the set breakfast. Standard coffee and orange juice. But the bread and jams were really good. Better than all of the other brasseries I visited on my trip.

We ate here twice… shame on us… mediocre or worse each time, but we were jet lagged and it was close to our apartment. Tough beef and three day old dessert with argumentative waiter. I see the excellent reviews and say to the reader, why stop here when there are so many really excellent restaurants in this area, several less than a block away from here.

We were in Paris for 10 days and this was our place. Each morning we’d go for coffee and breakfast and many days stop by in the afternoon for a wine. The service is excellent. Our special waiter was David. He spoke excellent English and was so funny as he dealt with us. This was our second trip to Paris and last time in 2010, we spent a lot of time there, also. Probably one of the best people watching places in the Marais. Going back in 2014!

La Chef est une maîtresse femme originaire du bordelais. La spécialité de la maison, la marquise de Bœuf au foie gras avec une réduction au beaujolais mais vous trouverez aussi un excellent angus d’Argentine ou toutes les déclinaisons possible de gibiers! Très bons poissons aussi, une très belle sole, vous trouverez aussi de bonnes omelettes ou de très bons escargots! Un bon point aussi pour le service, ce qui devient très rares, les serveurs sont très sympathiques. Une belle terrasse ensoleillée.

Ai fait un extra dans cette brasserie recemment: sincerement je vous le recommande, cuisine soignee et atmosphere agreable, ideal pour un diner au calme en tete a tete, demander la table 6 ;)

Das Hähnchen ist sehr zu empfehlen und auch ansonsten bietet die Speisekarte eine interessante Auswahl. Für jeden sollte etwas dabei sein. Einziges Manko: die Kellner tendieren zu leicht aufdringlichem Verhalten. Daher als Frau: besser nicht alleine hier hin gehen:-)

Bön rapport qualité-​prix
Nous sommes allés deux fois au Royal Turenne ces derniers mois et c’est toujours une valeur sure. Les salades sont gargantuesques (un demi-​Cantal par salade), les viandes sont bien cuites et délicieuses. Les desserts sont classiques mais très bons également. Enfin, le service est efficace et professionnel, malgré le monde qu’il peut y avoir dans ce restaurant. Une bonne adresse quand on né sait pas où manger du côté de St-​Paul.

Surprenant! Situé sur la rue de Turenne juste à côté de la Place des Vosges, nous nous attendions à un attrape touriste. Il y avait un concert live qui nous a attiré. Les serveurs se pressent et courent dans tous les sens, mais sont efficaces. La carte est typique des brasseries parisiennes, mais le chef y a mis une touché auvergnate pas du tout désagréable. Nous avions pris le tartare de boeuf et une grillade. Dans les 2 cas, nous étions ravis.

Service terrible, plats corrects sans plus
Une des plus terribles expériences à Paris, à éviter absolument, service horrible, personnel arrogant, plats moyens et bien trop chers…

Le Royal Turenne bénéficie d’un emplacement de choix. La brasserie est située au bout de la rue, commerçante et très fréquentée, des Francs Bourgeois dans le Marais.
Vous verrez pas mal de jeunes lycéens en terrasse car il y a des écoles tout près. C’est également pratique pour les pauses shoppings donc il y a généralement beaucoup de monde assis sur la grande terrasse et à l’intérieur.
Niveau nourriture, le menu ressemble à ceux des autres brasseries parisiennes. Mais il né faut pas s’attendre à manger très bien, c’est juste correcte.

Convivial
Petit bar /​café agréable au croisement des rues Turenne et Francs-​Bourgeois. Il fait bon de s’y arrêter pour prendre un café, un verre ou déguster des petits fours entre amis. Le personnel est accueillant et souriant, la qualité du service est un des maîtres mots.

Un café typiquement parisien
Un accueil sympathique, des prix un peu excessif, une terrasse bien placé, un choix de produit correct. Bref un café typique.
