How anyone with any respect for themselves can classify this as a restaurant is a mystery to me. We went to Le Saleya on our first night in Nice and what a way to start! I should try only to tell about a fraction of the horrible food as this review will be way too long otherwise. The starters should have warned us of even considering staying for the mains as my mussels had not been cleaned and were full of seaweed and barnacles and the two cured ham tasted like old rubber boots. The starters, however, were nowhere near as bad as the mains. We thought we would be quite safe as many had ordered pizza and how wrong can a pizza really go? The answer was very wrong. The burnt dough smell arrived at the table before the food and what a sight! They had actually cut half the top of the calzone pizza to disguise it or maybe it was to rescue the sad remnants. The other pizzas were also burnt and swimming in the largest amount of cheese known to man. I had calamari, which had obviously just come out of a bag from the freezer. They were so salty that i had to drown them in the less horrible mayo dressing just to get some of them down. When we complained about the food the gave us the tempting offer of cooking the whole meal again. We told them that there was no point, as we did not believe they could do it any better anyway. There was absolutely no chance of them reducing the cost or at least give us a free coffee, which hardly costs them anything. At the end they got very angry with us because a table next to us decided to go elsewhere after we had looked at them in horror when they sat down. We did shake our heads at them but they could also see the masses of uneaten food and good on them that they left. When in Nice and on Cours Saleya please be wise and go to one of the many other restaurants as this is probably the worst meal I have ever had.
