It is no surprise that I am a lover of Burdundian wine. Having visited a friends for the holidays, I was told that they were into Pinot Noir. Having only had tried Sonoma coast and some other California product, I figured it was time for them to try the old world styles. Not wanting to shock them too much, I picked a producer that somewhat bridges the old and new worlds. The Domain Mortet is a good balance of the punch of new world winemaking with the reserved minerality of the old. It is unfortunate that Denis Mortet had taken his own life a number of years back but his son and wife carry on his traditions to this day.
