This restaurant is like walking into a ski lodge. The food deserves 3 stars, but the Lapland experience bumps it to 4. Best dish we ordered was the appetizer plate for 2(it really feeds more like 4) which includes: reindeer 3-ways, salmon, mushroom«salad», two types of roe, bread cheese, cloudberries, lingonberries and a few pickles. It’s a sizable portion and we were full before entrees arrived. Entrees. Reindeer steak was tender and cooked well, but drenched in a sea of salty gravy. The salad was just barely edible. Service is exactly what you’d expect in Helsinki. Efficient, slightly curt and to the point. If you’re looking for a traditional, classic Finnish dining experience, this delivers in spades.

The food was pretty good. Staff was nice. Service was okay, but very subpar if there are any issues. We had a group of 6 and 2 ordered the fried fish of the day, which was actually seared salmon. It was severely under cooked in the middle(on both orders). It was an obvious mistake, understandable even since it was a thick piece of fish. We politely told the waitress who took away one of the plates and returned with a smaller more cooked piece(perhaps recooked the portion that was sent back) when we inquired about the other plate which was obviously also undercooked she said that is how they prepare it and she only did the first one out of curtesy and walked away. We were all shocked. We had ordered multiple meals appetizers and bottles of wine, we were extremely polite in informing her that everything else was great except the fish so we didn’t quite understand why she reacted in such a way. We were completely ignored after that, no coffee, no dessert offers, no anything. We even had to hunt her down to ask for the check. It’s hard to recommend this place after that experience. Overall 3 stars and a recommendation to practice better customer service.

Selection menus were very good. Decent beer selection. Traditional looking indoor decoration.

Great Food, Great Staff… Maybe some would say a little pricey but trust me… It’s worth every penny.

I ate here while visiting Helsinki and it was fantastic! Great atmosphere, and the food is delicious. I had the braised reindeer shank, which was cooked to perfection with a dark, savoury gravy. I will definitely return if I’m ever in Helsinki again!

Oye !! You gotta try this place if you to taste a real bite of Finland. The Reindeer is so flippin good, excellent taste and tender as a filet, this is much better than beef. The salmon was also a hit, probla all the food here rock’s ! Diffinently a guy place, nothing yuppie, girlie, uberish or metrosexual to be found. best to go winter when the gulf is frozen over. Makes it all the more fun

The restaurant was suggested by our hotel. The décor is delightful! I have never been to Lapland, but it was like dining in a log cabin. It was fun and had a very cozy feeling. We wanted to try the reindeer and it was presented so nicely and tasted wonderful! Our dessert with Cloudberry Sauce was memorable! Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Helsinki!

Been here a couple of times. Fun place to try traditional Lapland food. A little pricey, but best bet, I think, is to order the mixed appetizer plate. A good opportunity to try reindeer prepared several different ways, salmon, cloudberries and several other traditional foods. We also order the mixed meat plate(good), but decided in the end that we could have just had the mixed appetizer and left happy.

Loved the décor and this was the expierence I was looking for. Presentation was great but the reindeer tounge and liver was not for me. Even though I didn’t enjoy my course I enjoyed the expierence for what it was… something i can’t get in NJ!

I am not judging Lappi on the authenticity of its food — as I have never been to Lapland before you could even give me salty licorice and I may believe it’s traditional of Rovaniemi — but I judge it on the quality of the food. I have been here some years ago now and had a range of foods from arctic appetizers to stewed reindeer, all washed down with a decent Israeli red wine. It was an awesome experience because the service was awesome, the food was of superior quality, and we hence had a great night. I would definitely go back when in Helsinki — beautiful city! — even though I look forward to visit Lapland next time as well! :) Tried again on November 2015 — still excellent!

I always find it difficult to review«themed» venues when they have been created rather than persisted. For this establishment in a relatively modern building in downtown Helsinki has been made over internally to look like something from Lapland. Which raises the risk of Disney-esque fakery. But, on balance, I think the artifice works. And the food is — I imagine, having never actually been to Lapland — seemingly authentic, including specialties such as Salmon Soup and Reindeer. The service was good and the prices — for Helsinki — reasonable. So I’d commend putting aside your cynic’s hat and giving this one a try.

Ziemlich holzig, uriges Restaurant.

I agree. As a Finn I take foreigners there now and then. It is an experience for them and on top of that, the food is great! Not your normal average junk at tourist traps.

A must for tourists! Of course you pay some extra money for the waiters to wear lappish garb and the complete restaurant to be wooden and stuffed with all sorts of to be lappish goods — but it’s worth it and compared to the already high prices you don’t feel it anyway ;o) The food is delicious and the portions are more than enough.
