We took the set menu. Must admit that it was average. The location though is really nice and the staff very friendly

The Kappeli has a very nice location and the house itself is very beautiful. There seemed to be a restaurant part and a café part. We went to the Café part. It is self service. They offer cakes and cookies and some small other snacks. I liked the taste of my cookies a lot and the staff was very nice.

Had a piece of lemon cake and an Irish coffee. The lemon cake was absolutely amazing. Got to have that again some time. The liquid parts of the Irish coffee were fine but the cream in it had a buttery aftertaste that I found unpleasant. The prices in Kappeli are relatively high but the atmosphere is really nice. I typically come here late in the evening for coffee and cake when most cafes are closed.

Kappeli is classic Helsinki Esplanade dining. Cafeteria style offerings which are fresh and tasty. Indoor and outdoor/patio seating make for a pleasant experience without regard to the weather. A bit on the pricey side, this is Finland after all.

Chandeliers brought me in and the food brought me back! Perfect location in the city! Get the salmon soup! You will not regret it! Perfect for colder or rainy days! My Favorite table is in the front corner. Personal chandelier!

Great location. Unique restaurant and good food. They have reign deer on the menu. Nice selection of wine and beer. On a nice day it’s a great spot to drink a beer and hang out on the large patio and people watch.

Enjoyed a very nice meal after hockey tourney today. Beer good as was a local Finn vodka. Had Prix Fixe meal consisting of a selection of Finnish smoked fish, fish mousse and caviar plus a steal they called sirloin which was much tougher than American steak. A nice round desert with chocolate and strawberry topped off the meal. As said below, meal very expensive by American standards. Finnish tipping policy helps. Had to flag down wait staff for more beer. Pre-dinner outdoor bar/café very nice on nice weather day.

Muss jeder selbst entscheiden :)

The setting the food could not be better. I was really was surprised by the quality of the food. It’s Finland so your going to pay some crazy prices but I advise you to not do the math and just enjoy. The style of service needs some work. The coffee station is at the end of the food line. As such, even if you just want a quick bite, your going to have to wait until after the dozen expresso, cappuccino and lattes are made. I suggest they have a coffee station on it’s own like the do for the beer outside. Even with an endless wait, I still have to give it 4 stars and suggest you put you patience on and queue up.

Notre QG pendant notre voyage à Helsinki.

Great place to hang out and grab some food and beverage in Helsinki. Outdoor and indoor seating. Had the King Prawn Cocktail for starters and then the fillet of reindeer. Very tasty. Would return again. This was in August of 2013.

Tolle Location.

We went to the indoor restaurant for dinner and my wife and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Good service. Good wine, good bread. We had the cold fish plate(lox, herrings, salmon rillettes, fish roe, etc) with some cold boiled potatoes and scrambled eggs, which was a nice introduction to the various fish preparations they make in Finland. Then I had a salmon soup, which is a creamy dill soup with chunks of potatoes and salmon in it. Nothing mind blowing but well done. I suppose this is the kind of hearty soup I’d be happy to eat on a cold day. My wife’s roasted salmon piece was served with boiled potatoes and morels in a creamy mushroom sauce. It was nice, particularly the sauce which elevated the dish. Overall, this was 3 to 3.5 stars thus far. But what put it over the top for me was the blueberry cheesecake served with blueberry sorbet and a kind of blueberry compote. The whole dish was fabulous. Every element worked perfectly with the rest. Delightful. At the end of the day, not very creative but solid Finnish fare, in a nice location.

At the restaurant don’t miss the elk meatballs. At the coffee don’t miss the shrimp sandwich.

Kappeli is a restaurant, café and bar on Esplanadi. The beautiful and recently restored old building with a lot of windows has its very own style and atmosphere. I the summer you can sit outside on the terraces, enjoy the sunshine and listen to one of the many bands that play on Esplanadi. In winter you should come inside, have a got glöggi or just a normal cappuccino and enjoy the warmth while watching people outside fighting the cold in their fluffy winter coats. Kappeli is a place with great tradition. Opened in 1867 it already hosted few of Finland’s most famous and important artists like Jean Silbelius and Eino Leino. The history and the nice location also have an effect on the price. Kappeli is one of the most beautiful but also one of the most expensive places in Helsinki.

From the railway station, you can take a pleasant slow walk(about 10 minutes) to this landmark café. People gather at this place, locals or foreigner residents or tourists. It is a core of Finnish social circle(even the national hero, Siberius often enjoyed drinks at this place). Like him, you might get inspired for artistic pursuits. Food and drinks are fine. Services are reasonably efficient. It is located at the convenient place in any season(even winter of course).

Kappeli is a rather ornate greenhouse/conservatory, with a restaurant and bar. The bar side also has a selection of light snacks on offer, with coffee and also draught beer. I visited after a recommendation from friends — they meet there but head on elsewhere as it is somewhat pricey — you pay for the surroundings. The place is relatively quiet and relaxed, with a large number of tables, including separate pergolas with their own tables — great for people watching. The atmosphere is pleasant — everyone minds their own business and it is therefore a good place to chill out at over the weekend. It is self-service, apart from drinks, in the café part so there is no problems with the service and all in all it is well worth visiting. I had a very good blueberry turnover — washed down with a hot chocolate — admittedly not the cheapest I’ve ever had — at just shy of EUR9 for the privilege. They also have Koff on draught — definitely my favourite Finnish beer!

Part of my grand café tour of Helsinki, the café culture in Finland is spot on, you can just sit around all day sipping lattes and watching the world go by. There is plenty to watch from this café located centrally by the main strip of shops. The café itself is nothing to write home about but it is ideal for those who like to people watch. P. S. the Finnish are a great people to watch, they are always so well dressed and cosmopolitan!
