I have no earthly idea what to do with this place. The nice thing about Oklahoma is that you don’t have to use a calendar to know when spring has come: It announces itself in the form of giant balls of ice falling out of the sky and crashing into your stuff, plus spontaneously-generated vortices of wind that will kill you by bashing heavy things into you or tossing you a mile or so. Four years ago now, one such storm came through and deposited hailstones on my roof with such velocity that they came through the roof and lodged in the ceiling of my bedroom. The exterior of my home did not fare much better; it looked very much as if an angry mob of business owners I’d rated poorly on Unilocal had thrown bricks at my house for awhile. These folks came on out and pitched me on their business. I took a chance and used them, and part one of the repair process was perfect. They got the work done, they were relatively fast, and everything seemed fine. It was the biggest single check I’ve ever written in my life, but I exhaled with relief that I made the right call. The roof has been absolute perfection. Not a single problem and it still looks great. But pieces of siding started falling off my house every time the wind blew.(As you know, in Oklahoma, that means every day.) Each time, I would call the company and ask that they fix the problem under the promised five-year warranty, and they would do so. But it happened so frequently that they finally sent an expert out to look at it, and he determined one of the original installers was what siding companies call a «dumbass,» and they had to redo a lot of the work. I thought that was the end of it, but sadly, every few months, another piece of siding comes loose. Now that several years have passed, the company isn’t quite as responsive on repairs, and I must beg, cajole, plead, nag and threaten to get them to come out and fix it. Let me be clear: They’ve never once refused to perform the warranty repair; my frustration has been with how long I’ve waited for them. Basically, I’ve been waiting on them for one repair or another for about 3 months a year in total. So if you want somebody to stand by their warranty, by golly these guys will do it. I’ve had over a dozen warranty repairs on the original work over the years, and while it’s taken longer than it should sometimes, it’s all been done. On the other hand, I can’t help but wish I’d gone with a company that had done the work right the first time(or the second time, or the third …) so that the warranty was unnecessary. These are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet, and certainly some of the most honest … but maybe not the most competent. As I type this, my most recent repair was completed about seven weeks ago. Fingers crossed, nothing else will come loose. But I’m not optimistic.
