It sucks. I just got a pepperoni pizza and I won’t get a pizza from there again. I have had there wings on a different occasion. Didn’t like those either. I guess it’s just not my place. I’m sure others enjoy.

Why order from a large chain when you can support a local business with better food. Great wholesome food.

Michigan Pizza(from a NY’er) — what else is there to say. My grandson(not from NYC) liked it.

I ordered an 8″ calzone yesterday. While the portion was great(I ate 2 meals from the single serving), I found the food to be on the dry side due to the lack of evidence(visually and by taste) of ANY sauce in the pie. I think that it would also benefit from the inclusion of green peppers and perhaps olives. I did appreciate that they offer and deliver Coke® products. Delivery was faster than the promised time.

JD’s Pizza and Grinders is at the corner of Michigan Ave and Carpenter Rd, hidden behind Circle K. The restaurant offers delivery and pickup; no dine-in. It’s also next to a laundromat, if you want to grab some lunch while you wash your drawers. I get JD coupons all the time in the mail, so I decided to try them out. A coupon got me a large pizza, cheesy bread, and a 2-liter of soda for $ 12 and some change. Pretty affordable! Modern sage Sharon Stone has said that sex is like pizza, and that even when it’s bad, it’s still pretty good. This saying certainly applies here. The pizza is pretty disappointing, but I suppose it’s still pretty good. Really, I put it about on the same level as a Little Caesar’s Hot-n-ready. The crust is bland, dense, and hard… the cheese is thin and not stretchy, and the pepperonis were pretty thin and without much flavor. The cheesy bread was decent, but expected something cheesier. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the pizza, and dipped them into their Ranch dressing and marinara sauce. The soda was incredible, but we can thank the good people at Coca Cola for that. JD’s also has ribs, grinders, and chicken wings, but I haven’t had any of these here. Though I don’t think I’ll be back for the pizza, I do plan on trying their chicken wings. Oh, the employee was very nice on the phone, then when I saw her when I picked up my food. So, that’s nice. The AA and Ypsi area is lucky to have quite a few good pizza places. Heck, chain pizzerias, like Marco’s and Cottage Inn, have really great pizza. JD’s just didn’t do it for me.

Their grinders are great. The chicken club was outstanding, very much like a chicken cheese steak. The service is always really great, they always make small talk when I get an order for delivery and it’s pleasant because(understandably so) delivery jobs suck. The pizza is pretty good, not too greasy, the sauces and cheese is usually pretty decent. Just standard run of the mill local pizza! The grinders really are where this place shines, haven’t had a bad one yet.

We have lived in Pittsfield Twp for almost two years and find it hard to find delivery places. So we found J. D’s though Unilocal and decided to follow reviews and order Steak and Cheese pizza. Then we added in jalapeño poppers and mushrooms. WOW!!! The steak and cheese pizza is phenomenal and the poppers are great. We will not be ordering from any other pizza place in the future! So good. Try the ranch dressing as well. Great for dipping and tastes homemade. Very happy we found J. D’s. Can’t wait to try a Grinder next time.

I discovered JD’s through a friend, and oh what a discovery! The steak and cheese pizza is amazing. Lots of toppings and excellent flavor. The meat lovers is a close second. Don’t let me forget to mention the cheese bread dipped in their amazing ranch dressing. Not in the mood for pizza? Try a steak and cheese grinder. Also, a fabulous choice. Beyond the food are the courteous and friendly workers who will accept expired coupons.

Me and my friends wanted to order a pizza. Sounds simple enough right? No, we call this establishment seeing the positive reviews thinking that a respected restaurant could satisfy our needs. The girl who picked up was very very nice ;) but the pizza was crap I wish I never ate it

Love JD’s Pizza! We’ve been ordering from them for several years. Everything we’ve ordered has been fantastic. It’s also nice to eat at a real local(non-franchise) business.

I still don’t know exactly where this place is at but it’s close I got delivery on a Friday night and was glad I tried something different than my usual Friday night take out. I ordered the Italian calzone(messy and juicy just like I like them), broccoli cheddar bites(could actually taste the broccoli a plus), and an antipasti salad with ranch all very good! I’ll be back to try different grinders/calzones. One thing I will say though I ordered a calzone and it looked liked a grinder but it still tastes very delicious. My step son got the chicken tenders and fries and everything was seasoned just right and tender chicken. Thank you for being a new option for Friday night delivery.

I happened to see a coupon for JD’s. Grabbed it before we went out on errands in the area. The mall is just south of the US-12/Carpenter Road intersection. On the east side of Carpenter. The place is not fancy. Just a couple of tables, so not good for large groups unless you carry out your order. The lady who waited on us was friendly. When we explained that it was our first time, she helped us figure out what we wanted. We had a coupon to get two 8″ grinders and a 2-liter soda for $ 10.00. Specialty grinders are 50 cents more. Hey, why not splurge. Our waitperson told us it would take 8 minutes to make the grinders. She gave us glasses and ice. We chose our soda from the cooler over in the corner. We sat at a table and chilled while we waited. There are benches outside, but no outdoor tables. Hubby had the chicken melt and I had the chicken zinger, which has buffalo sauce in addition to the ranch sauce. Shredded lettuce, tomato and enough chicken to satisfy. Hit the spot. That ranch stuff is awesome! It has a definite garlic lilt. It’s a bit soupy, so don’t expect to eat your grinder in the car. It’s definitely a sit-down meal. The bread is a large Italian roll, which got crispy in the oven. The melted cheese adhered to the bread and both were very chewy — in the right sort of way. We each took a menu to keep in our cars. We’ll be back.

I’ve eaten a few times at JDs and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food. Yes, they sell a bunch of frozen Sysco apps that they throw in the pizza ovens, but the stuff made from scratch is pretty good. The pizzas have an ok crust, but a really nice sauce and plenty of cheese and toppings. It’s not gourmet but is definitely a step up from a lot of neighborhood pizza joints. Their subs are just phenomenal, baked to cripsy perfection with loads of tasty ingredients. The provolone they use tastes like actual provolone and not just random cheese. Their Sicilian sub is the handsdown winner. Tons of crispy bacon, spicy pepperoni and yummy ham, topped with melty cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and italian dressing. It is literally made of awesome. Yes, this is a bit of a hidden gem in a remote corner of Pittsfield township, located in a strip mall with a laundromat. Staff is a little undertrained, but very nice and they get the food out as promptly as possible. They do a pretty steady business from the surrounding neighborhoods, and that’s good news for the locals indeed.

J.D.‘s is close to my son’s school, so I stop in there a lot for pizza, grinders, and salads. I love J.D.‘s because I think it is good food for a decent price, and also because the guys working there have great personality. I’ve had many a conversation with them beyond just my food order. This is not to say that everything is always perfect(but, are you?); I have had wilted lettuce in my salad, I’ve had a slice of pizza that has been in the warmer a tad too long. But, when I have them make things fresh for me, they are always delicious. They even have par-baked pizzas for me, so I could finish them at home later. It worked out beautifully, and I don’t know how many big chains would do that upon request. Which brings me to an important point: J.D.‘s is an independent pizza/grinder shop. That is one big reason to support it, especially in this current economy. Check it out for yourself: they are in a small strip mall at Carpenter and Michigan Avenue. It is worth at least one visit.

I’m not sure why J.D.‘s isn’t on Unilocal already, but he deserves to be — as well as deserves all five of those stars. First of all, the pizza is delicious — everything is fresh and tasty. But pizza is just part of what he makes. The grinders? Awesome. Crunchy but chewy bread and delicious fillings. Lots of appetizers and sides… But the cheese bread and ranch dressing deserve their own paragraph, so they’re getting one. The cheese bread is delicious, stretchy cheese on soft dough, sprinkled with garlic. You can get it with tomato sauce for dipping, but WHY. WOULD. YOU!!! J.D. MAKES his own ranch, people! It may, in fact, be laced with heroin — it’s that addictive. I wish he’d bottle it and sell it. Best Pizza in the AA/Ypsi area. Hands down.
