Really wanted this place to be great, but my fried chicken was mediocre. Fries were soggy. Pretty good baked beans though. Out of greens the night I went. Kind of spends, too. Cute kid working counter.

Great food! Ordered the chicken Philly and fresh cut fries and loved it! Can’t wait to go back and try more! Highly recommend!

Food was excellent. Great greens with lots of pork. Mac n cheese was delicious. Breading on the chicken was super tasty. Food was served extremely hot. Fantastic. My only error was that I didn’t specify White meat and received a thigh, leg and two wings. I would have preferred a breast and then a couple other pieces. Again, my error as I never imagined I wouldn’t get a breast. You need to go to this little local gem.

Have eaten here two times. The family here is wonderful to talk to and spent good time getting to know them while they were making our food. They were willing to custom any of the food to our liking. We had pork chops, fried chicken, grilled chicken, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, green beans as well as a few other items. They were all VERY good. There’s enough space for about 6 – 8 people to eat in, and it takes about 15 – 20 minutes to get a dinner meal cooked. If you are in a hurry — I would recommend calling ahead — but sitting there smelling your food cooking is always worth the wait.

My friends were raving about this place so i stopped in for catfish and a Philly Steak, didn’t care for it, $ 24 worth of food in the garbage.

Our office ordered lunch from here 3 of us ordered burgers and fries and 2 ordered wings and chicken. The burgers were square and tasteless and the fries were so soggy with grease they were thrown away. Chicken was meh so don’t think we will be going/ordering from there again.

So glad this place is in Yorkville, as we are lacking in decent restaurants. Casual place, not a ton of seating. The guys that run this place care about good food and it shows. They let us try a couple different items while we were eating and it was all delicious. The ribs I ordered were tender and fell off the bone. Paired with smothered potatoes and Mac and cheese, a food coma ensued. The husband got fried chicken and basically inhaled it. We’ll be back!

Been there Three times so far and plan on returning. 1st visit/2nd visit — Philly cheesesteak sandwich. This was delicious had it twice now. Very tasty! 3rd visit — wings and rib tips. Loved both of them. Had the Mac and cheese and potato wedges as sides. I love their Mac and cheese, not sure why the other reviewer dissed it. The wings have this great mild sauce that they put on the fries too. It’s very good. Very friendly environment and everything is made fresh to order . I would suggest they change their sign outside. It’s in cursive and when I was driving on 34 I had no clue what the place was. I imagine a lot of people are unaware of this local gem.

What a let down. When we called they were out of rib tips so we switched to ribs. What a joke. For $ 12.99 I would expect some meat on my ribs. So not the case. 6 little anorexic ribs. We also got the tough grilled pork chops and not so special fried chicken. The mac and cheese would be better out of the velveeta box. What a huge disappointment. I will be un liking my FB status. We will be going to Montgomery or Hinckley next time.

The food is pretty good, try the jerk chicken. The flavor is pretty close to what I’ve had in Jamaica. The ribs are great and the sides are great too. Check this place out for something different and home cooked.

I love to see a new restaurant in town. I called ahead and picked up a couple dinners and sides here tonight. The people who were working were very nice, which is always a plus. We had the fried chicken, by far better than the fast food place down the road. We got a leg and thigh with a couple wings. The chicken was juicy and the breading crunchy. We also got the fried tilapia — yum! Our favorite thing we got. The breading was delicious. I will totally get that again. For sides, the greens were sooo flavorful. Mmm. The coleslaw was pretty standard mayonnaise-based(not vinegar), my preference. We also got fries and mac and cheese, but I think next time we’ll try some of their other options. They have plenty to choose from on the menu here, so I’m interested in trying out some more from this local, independent business!

First visit. I had the fried chicken dinner, with mac and cheese and greens as sides. The chicken was excellent, seasoned just right. Mac and cheese was pretty good, and the greens great. Spicy, and what appeared to be a pork bone in it, but if you’re a vegetarian you’re likely not eating in a soul food restaurant. My son had the steakburger, daughter in law had a cheeseburger. Both reported they were very good. The location has been at least three hot dog restaurants in the past, none succeeded. I suspect it was the location, it was hard to get to. The new road layout has eliminated being able to get in from the eastbound lanes of Veterans Parkway. However, if you turn left on Bridge St and go through the BP lot, you can get right in. Nothing else in Yorkville like Barbara Jeans Grill, so lets support local businesses.
