Sunrise Motel

Although there has been a supposed ‘upgrade’ the Sunrise Motel is in shambles. Despite the high prices, you had better make sure that you keep your expectations very low, both in terms of amenities and customer service. Expecting a nice sandy beach? Nope — the photos advertised are from different areas, you will NOT be able to feel the sand in your toes across from this motel because it’s all rock. Expecting a free breakfast as advertised? Nope — you get a $ 6 voucher for a restaurant down the road. Expecting a private balcony or deck? Nope — well, not unless you count the cement walkway in front of all of the ground level rooms as a ‘deck’. Expecting amenities such as proper toiletries since you paid nearly $ 300 for the night? Nope — you get a 2-​in-​1 shampoo/​conditioner and a barely functioning hair dryer. Expecting someone to man the front desk at all hours? Nope — there’s a piece of paper with two phone numbers taped to a closed screen for most of the morning and evening, with no note as to when they plan to return. Expecting a secure stay? Nope — the key dropoff is clearly marked outside of the offices in an OPEN BOX, where anyone can come up and grab one of the turnkeys. If I had a child, I would not feel comfortable staying at this establishment. And finally — are you expecting your comments to be taken seriously? NOPE — I tried emailing some of my concerns, as the front desk was not manned upon checkout. The e-​mail address noted on their website bounced back, which I can only assume is an indication that there have been so many issues that whomever manages this building does not care about customer complaints, comments, or recommendations. Prior to this review, I contacted the Sunrise via Facebook and after not receiving a response in nearly 48 hours — I finally received one from the front desk person (the one I had written about — Shawn) and he did not provide any contact information to upper management. There’s a number of reasons that this hotel was half empty during a popular summer weekend. Run far away!!!

My family had no problem with the internet and felt very at home here. They recommend it. I will use this location again when I have out of town guests. Amybeth Hurst, Portland.
