Recently visited. The young lady on waited on us didn’t know large from small. She gave us one of each which was wrong. She asked twice what we ordered, then came back again, asked again and wanted to mix up the flavors. I could maybe understand if they were busy but we were the only two people there. The other 4 or 5 girls sat around chatting and checking the cell when they could have been productive. They were getting paid but decided to do nothing. What’s with these people. The place is nice, the ice cream is great, the help is a disaster. Like many businesses, they spend millions to get the business running, then hire incompetent help that turns customers off and/or ruins the business.

Ice cream is excellent, new location is fabulous! Young teenagers scooping without gloves and touching the ice cream with their hands is unacceptable. Please get gloves for your workers!

Ice cream tour de tubby 2015. On our way to see the Nubble lighthouse, we passed by Dunne’s, which happens to be right around the corner from the visitors area. NOTE: It is *NOT* the ice cream place at the lighthouse. They are a 4 minute drive or a strong 10 minute walk over some steep hills. They’re the local favorite and all the tourists that are in the know go to Dunne’s. Servings are HUGE. I thought things were big in Texas, well it turns out that when it comes to ice cream, Maine has us beat. Dunne’s serves up really good homemade ice cream in crazy large portions. Pro tip: Get two flavors, an extra cup and share.

«My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy your ice cream while it’s on your plate.» — Thornton Wilder After some heartbreaking news I was encouraged to eat something«ooey, gooey» and good for the soul. We happened to be near Dunne’s and thought we’d stop to see if they had butterscotch sundaes. Sadly, they did not… however there were plenty of tempting flavors to choose from! As we watched other people get their ice cream(for example: a sundae that had more hot fudge, nuts, and whipped cream on it then I’d ever seen on a sundae before) we decided that sharing a small would be plenty enough for us. We ordered Kahlua Fudge Brownie on a sugar cone, paid our $ 5, and then waited. And waited. And waited. It seemed odd to us that it would take so long for the teenage girl — who wasn’t busy at all, as there were plenty of other employees taking the orders of the small handful of us crazy enough to get ice cream in 45 degree weather — to get us our order. After maybe seven or eight minutes, she came back with an ENORMOUS ice cream. And then we realized why it must have taken so long for her: it appeared as though they mashed up the brownie right then and there to mix into the ice cream, because the brownie: a) didn’t visually appear to be frozen b) didn’t taste to have been frozen (And if you’ve ever bought a brownie or cookie dough ice cream from the store before, it’s always a bit hard and gommy from sitting in ice cream in a freezer aisle.) It tasted like a light, crumbly, chocolatey brownie that they mashed into a very Kahlua-y flavored ice cream. And it was delicious! We weren’t sure why«Fudge» was in the title as there was absolutely NO fudge in the ice cream itself, but we didn’t mind as it felt as though we had eaten half a pan of brownies with our two softball-sized scoops of ice cream(which was so large, despite being a Small, that we were stuffed… next time, we’d get a Kid size!). Parking, bathrooms, a great view of Cape Nubble, and seating makes this place a great little stop for something ooey, gooey!

Really good ice cream! Lots of different flavors. If the owners read this, please describe your ice cream under the name. We stood there looking at the list of ice creams, such as Planet Earth and Danish Cream, Frozen Pudding and not knowing what flavors they are. I felt bad that everyone kept asking the servers what was in the ice creams. They run big so be careful of your size selection. Got the Danish Cream and it was a rich vanilla. Very good ice cream. If your big on ice cream, don’t miss this place.

There was only one Brown’s. After they changed hands some two decades ago, that was basically it for me. My family had a camp on Cycad Ave when I was a kid, and we used to walk over to Spring St. and then a shortcut through some bushes over to Brown’s. Homemade ice cream at it’s best. My faves were chocolate and also blueberry. We no longer have the camp, sold it decades ago, but I still go up there during summer as well as my other family members. The chocolate ice cream tastes like it’s out of a carton. The blueberry ice cream is basically vanilla ice cream with specks of blueberries in it. Brown’s used to be REAL blueberry ice cream. I guess it’s true what they say, «You can’t go home again,» but too bad the new owners didn’t carry over the same Brown’s traditional flavors and methods.

I was so disappointed to hear about Browns closing but the ice cream at Dunnes is still the same excellent ice cream, why shouldn’t it be? It IS the same. Same recipes and same fantastic flavors. I look forward to Indian Pudding every year, and Ginger and Peppermint Stick. The almond butter crunch was a new one for me and I’ll have to stay longer next year to try the Java crunch!!!

Just like the old Brown’s… Plenty of parking, benches to sit on to view Nubble Light… My DH and I both ordered a 2 scoop cone mine was half the size of his… I brought it back to Elizabeth and she said she would add to mine as it was noticeably smaller then his for the same price… I’m glad she did or I would have been upset… All in all it was very good ice cream… It’s definitely a place to visit in York, ME

We found this place by chance and it is delicious. Servings r very generous, so much that I ordered the kiddie size and was plenty full. Java crunch is a coffee with chocolate covered espresso beans and excellent. We found servers to be very nice, courteous. This is August so maybe staff changes have been made since other reviews. It’s a scenic spot with Nubble Lighthouse to view from the tables and benches. There are many flavorful choices to please everyone. We will make this stop every time were n the area. Also provides public restrooms. Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Yum, banana ice cream. The only thing that would make it better would be some chocolate chips. … please! Btw, a small cone is huge!

Their blueberry ice cream is a must! I recommend going to this popular ice cream place and head to the Nubble Lighthouse right after. You can actually catch a nice glimpse of the Lighthouse from here!

Delicious! We had to go back twice when we were in York beach for only 3 days. Mint Oreo had huge chunks of Oreo. Java crunch had chocolate covered espresso beans. So darn good! Must stop!

The new facility was very nice. Ice cream portions were VERYSMALL! ! Number of flavors advertised online were not there, There was only one sugar-free flavor available also. I did like the variety of topping options. Miss Brown’s will not be back. White’s, Kimballs and Memories are superior!

Was disappointed when I heard Browns was closed. But great to know only the building and name have changed but the ice cream is still the best.

I can’t speak to the ice cream, but the customer service needs some serious work. My mother told me that Brown’s Ice Cream(the little shack that we used to adore in York) had closed, and this place had been constructed right down the street. The weather conditions certainly weren’t reflective of ice cream weather(it was in the low 50’s, rainy and windy). Since the hours weren’t posted any where, I wanted to find out when they closed, in case I wanted to come back for some ice cream after dinner. The response? After the older guy(presumably the owner) rudely gestured me to an unmanned window, a seemingly high school age kid took my question about the hours. The kid working the window(who was nice enough) didn’t know, so he asked the older guy, who nonchalantly responded: «Sometime between 6 and 8.». The kid informed me quietly that it likely would be closer to 6. I think it is pretty awesome that there are no set hours for a business. I mean, if you are going to close due to the weather and it being slow, just do it. We aren’t going to be offended. But if you are going to rudely play a guessing game with your customers, I guess there are plenty of other places to go get ice cream in this area. Sad, because I live in York and I like ice cream.
