What an amazing experience, meeting Basseem. The only thing better was the food. This was the best falafel I’ve ever had. The freshly made butternut squash was gorgeous. They have 4 kinds of baklava! The two I had were Greek and Lebanese, both delicious. This is a hidden gem, right near Norwichtown. I would eat here every day if I could! From now on, this is my go to spot for lunch if I’m close to Norwich. Very inexpensive and wonderful food.

Took a wrong turn on my way to Franklin and saw this little restaurant. I knew I had to check it out. I ordered a babaganoush(sp.?) roll up. The flavors were outstanding! Also grabbed a bag of pita for home. I can’t wait to go back and try other items. The baklava looked amazing. They also have bulk spices so you can buy just what you need to make a special meal. What a nice surprise to find this place!

home made soup daily(new 2 every day) + garlic bread(I mean real garlic bread) = DIEFOR. I would consider driving over the double yellow lines and pushing people off the road to get the last loaf. if the armageddon was coming for sure, i would take more drastic measures to enjoy my last moments with the bread and soup.

There is no better food in the area. This is great stuff and especially in you like Middle Eastern cuisine. The people are local and friendly. It doesn’t get better than this.

Great setting right on the Yantic River. We sat outside on the patio with a view of the river and had garlic chicken and falafel wraps. Both were the tops! Strange unique little village Yantic… Strange for it feels a little like a ghost town with abandoned post office, mill and strip club called«Juicys». Beautiful church in the center of town and you should bring your dog with you there is a nice little park right along the river next to fire station to let your dog run. Outstanding food and a unique town.

A gem! My wife, three month old and I literally stumbled into this place. Greeted warmly even though they were closing, the owners made us healthy, wonderful schwarmas. Beef and chicken. Capped the lunch with amazing baklava and a chocolate covered ginger man. Perfection. Set in a beautiful spot next to a great stone bridge above an energetic creek. Surrounded by trees and overlooked by a great old church. Go out of your way to find this place!

I came here about two years ago, but never reviewed. The experience was so bad that all this time I still remember it. That has to say something. I had heard such good things about this place. I ordered the falafel, and while I waited I checked out the store. I noticed the equipment was very dirty and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in quite a while. After the food was ready I left, and ate after arriving at my destination. The falafel was disgusting. It was bone dry and I was choking trying to get it down. It tasted completely of spices. I love spices. But this was all spices. I had to throw the rest away. I haven’t had falafel before that or since, but I can’t imagine it’s supposed to be a dry spice filled crumbly patty. Even now talking about it I’m getting nauseous. I just can’t bring myself to go back, even if people tell me the lady makes the most amazing soups. I guess you can have my share.

I loved this little hole in the wall family business. I had a delicious falafel with tomato, turnip pickles and sesame tahini. The spinach pie was good and the baklava excellent. What I like most about this place was the outdoor seating where it took me back so the Roman Empire. I had a wonderful experience.

Wife and I go here regularly for desserts and light lunch/dinner. Owners are amazingly nice and congenial. Food is amazing and they have a lot of Lebanese/Middle Eastern products that are difficult to find elsewhere. Beautiful outdoor seating in the warmer months.

Good chicken gyro and tortellini soup, though I wish they had a cup and not just a pint of it. The experience was a bit strange so that may deter me from coming back. The older man working there, possibly the owner, has a very strong personality that may be off putting to some. I am all for chit chatting but I don’t expect a carry out order to turn into a 15 – 20 minute lecture on life. I got there 10 – 15 minutes after calling and my order had not even been started, despite no other customers being there. He also stopped in the middle of putting my order together to ring up a friend of his who came in to buy something. Apparently he thought I had nowhere to be that day, despite me calling in a carry out because I did have to be somewhere. He is nice and well meaning but it was a bit much

The owner is the nicest man ever! I am staying at a hotel in Norwich on business and was tired and figured I would order in. I found this place on Unilocal, called, the owner picked up and I asked for a menu. In his very thick accent he basically asked me what I wanted and he will make me whatever he can with what he has so I told him things I liked and didn’t like and i was going to be surprised. I found out they closed 45 mins before I called and he said it didnt matter that I am guest in his city and he wants me to enjoy my stay; I begged him to reconsider but he insisted. 20 mins later he shows up to my door with a big smile, puréed pumpkin black bean soup, white bean salad and potato salad. He is such a genuinely sweet and considerate man. The food is AMAZING! Incredibly authentic and fresh. I will be going back tomorrow to get more food. I hope his business grows and flourishes because there are not enough small businesses out there like this one anymore!

This is a small Middle Eastern market off the main drag heading west out of Norwich, down in the tiny villa of Yantic. Now some disclosure is in order. I’m Syrian, and I immediately hit it off with the owner, Baseem. But the food matches the hospitality. I purchased zatar, baklava, mujadarra, twisted cheese and some tabbouleh. All were fresh and superb. This will be a regular pit stop whenever I’m in the area. Don’t expect haute décor or comfortable seating — this is a traditional old market, just like the ones you see in ethnic neighborhoods in many of America’s medium and small cities. But if you’re looking for some excellent Middle Eastern fare served with traditional Arabic hospitality, this is the place for you.

Fresh garlic bread is worth the trip to this obscure place. The soup will knock your socks off. Very small with limited seating. Best plan to take out.

Awesome food and experience. Hopefully you will have to wait for your food because Baseem is the best and will talk your ear off. Falafel was made while I waited and was excellent. Bread was fresh as were the veggies. The best was the baklava… the LEBANESE baklava! It melts in your mouth. Priced right, tastes great, owners who care. What more could you ask for?

Great Great Great! I’ve never been disappointed coming here for lunch, the food is amazing(I love their fresh made soups) I’ve eaten inside(winter) and outside and it never fails. The owners are talkative and friendly. Even I give myself a pep talk going in, I cannot pass up grabbing some baklavah togo, so delicious. It’s a small place but I love looking at all the food items they have that you can’t find anywhere else. 5 stars all the way’

This is one of those little local places that Unilocalers dream of discovering and all the locals go, «Ya — we know it’s really good.» The food is fresh, wonderful & has a unique twist — maybe that’s the fresh part. I have never had hummus like this before. Home made soup specials daily seem to be a big hit but I couldn’t pass up the shawarma — simple but amazing! The owners are personable, welcoming & helpful if you aren’t quite sure what to order. The indoor seating is pretty limited but I noticed a lot of takeout traffic when I was there. They are expanding their outdoor dining area which should be lovely in the spring, summer & fall — right next to a river, not sure which one. This was my first visit but it will not be my last — what a gem!

I discovered this place by accident and a wrong turn into the village of Yantic. Good for me !!! The place is very little, and there is massive construction around it. Don’t let you be scared off by that… I had a special lamb kabob/pit wrap. I also had to sample the three different types of baklava they had. It was very good. I will take my son & mom there, as they are lamb and middleastern food lovers. They also have a mini food market as well. I never would have guessed that there would be a nice place like this little treasure, in such a off the beaten path. I can’t wait to go back…
