I was looking for an authentic German place and stumbled upon this gem. The décor on the inside is flabbergasting; there are probably 500 steins hanging from the ceiling. I ordered the jäger schnitzel and it was very very good. The mushroom gravy was a little different than what I’ve had in Germany but still pretty awesome. Mashed potatoes were perfect. Salad was great. Only slightly negative things I can say is that they don’t serve croquettes and the food wait was pretty long, but normal for a European restaurant.

This is a place I come to sparingly for lunches so I’ve never gotten to order from the dinner menu. With that said, this review will be based off my experiences with their lunch menu. Let’s start out with the basic look/décor. The building is an old fast food chain that had gone out of business years ago when the local base locked down after 9⁄11. The inside has been heavily decorated with German figurines and mugs from floor the celing. Someone could initially confuse this place with a store if they don’t see the tables right away. The wait staff seems to be the same group of people so if you become a regular you will see a lot of familiar faces. The lunch menu is relatively small, usually consists of 7 or 8 daily specials as well as a second menu that offer the 10 to 13 items. The food is traditional German food, typically some form of schnitzel or wurst. The dishes typically include fries or mashed potatoes as a side and soup. The soup can be upgraded to beef goulash for $ 1 extra and it’s worth the price. The menu prices are reasonable and range from $ 8.99 to $ 10.99. Deserts are all cakes, but I haven’t personally tried any as the lunch meal is more than enough to feed any hunger.

This place could almost get 5 stars on atmosphere alone. Its packed with German and Bavarian art, ornaments, ceramic figures etc. Definitely stands out from the rest of the town. The staff was super friendly. This is one of those places where you feel like you’re a guest at someones house rather than visiting a business. I am an out of towner but it seemed like the owner knew every other customer very well. The food was great! German pancakes are delicious. We also tried chicken and noodles, apple sauce and some other apps– everything we had was awesome. BYOB! Theres a nice liquor store across the street where you can get 6 packs or individual bottles. Grab some Oktoberfest or Hefeweizen to compliment your meal. Owner brought out a bucket of ice and bottle opener to accommodate. They also have a small candy and souvenir section with German products. One of the best places in town!

«Ausgezeichnet Wahl!» If you enjoy authentic German-American cuisine then you’ve come to the right place. I state American as well as German because though they are truly German there are some American influences, but please don’t get me wrong. If you order a meal and opt for the salad over the rich potato soup. You will be served a German salad. If you get here and someone doesn’t know if they really like German there’s always the Honey breaded and fried chicken, truly delicious chicken, but the Jäger Schnitzel is where it’s at or «the cats meow» However, you haven’t eaten until you’ve tasted their whole-strawberry cheese cake. Made fresh in house this desert is a meal unto itself and puts any cheese cake factory(«factory» being very telling) to shame. I’ll include a snapshot of the cake, but it doesn’t do it justice. Ambience warm and inviting. Waitstaff are busy but friendly and enduring. No wait for lunch, but I can’t imagine dinner. The eyes are a bit overwhelmed initially and I was quite toasty almost instantly upon entering. The senses will definitely get a run for their money here. Ample parking and easy access off the street. Do not take AE. Prefer cash tips.

We went there for Sunday brunch. Pretty good selection, a couple things were good(smoked sausage and sauerkraut and the potato salad), but a lot of things were just average. The dessert quality was mediocre. Don’t think I will go again.

We scheduled a family brunch at Sabastian’s Schnitzel Haus due to it’s location and great reviews. We were blown away by the vast quantity of the German dolls and steins and paintings which decorate every square inch of this establishment. The friendly wait staff in costume seated us and brought our beverages. The brunch buffet had small quantities of many different items. I realized that this was done because they didn’t have heated or cooled stations and by constant replenishing they were able to control the serving temperature of the food. I tried small portions of many of their items. I was impressed by the German potato salad, bratwurst, the corn bread and fresh fruit but most of the items were average. I noticed the cream for the coffee was in little plastic containers and the syrup for the pancakes and French toast was Hungry Jack. High end restaurants that source fresh and better quality ingredients would serve fresh cream and maple sugar syrup but I would pay more for that. All in all, the food is better than a diner. You can get roast pork and roulades before noon. The waitresses never let you get thirsty and the place is very unique. I will certainly give it another try for Schnitzel.

I live not too far from Fort Dix and frequently go to the MWR rifle and pistol range. When I am in the area I always stop at Sebastian’s for lunch or dinner. Love the food but the décor has lots of dolls and female decorations… a little too distaff for my taste. My favorite is the spätzle and the red cabbage. Try their third Sunday of every month all-you-care-to-eat buffet. A real value to try all their dishes. Great food, but no bar. it is BYOB friendly!!! Give them a try!!!

Ok so for several years since the Blue Bell inn in PA switched hands and switched cuisine I’ve been looking for Authentic German food. This place definitely covers it. It’s a must try.

Sebastian’s is a Fort Dix staple. I originally came to the area back in 1987 and I am pretty sure it was here then, over the years I have come back to the area and The Schnitzel Haus has always been a dependable Go-to. The place is timeless. That can mean things don’t change a lot and there are a lot of classic old gems in the place. Both of these are true. Dolls, steins and a lot of photos. The place is fun to look through. The food is good. You can get your schnitzel on in any way you want. I had the Jäger schnitzel and it was pretty tasty. Crisp schnitzel and flavorful sauce. I was full, but they have a big selection of German classic deserts… the main difference is that they contain more sugar than German version, so we Americans will like it. I’m sure you will. Enjoy this place. Definitely worth a visit.

The service was decent and the atmosphere was weird but kind of cool. Traditional German stuff everywhere, to include the staff’s outfits. The price was average. So was the food. Generally this whole area just has average food at best. I went once, had some German food, and I probably won’t ever go back. This isn’t the place you’re looking for if you want super authentic German food but it does the trick for a meal. Nothing special though.

Great German food right outside JBMDL. Its not quite as great as my German Mother in Laws but the German salad was spot on. Try the strudel!

One word — Authentic. If you know what AF stand for you’ll understand when I say this place is Authentic AF! From the music to the waitress garb to the décor on the walls and tables this nice, enjoyable eatery is 100% German. I loved it! You don’t find places like this restaurant ANYWHERE any more. For real, you’ll impress any date you bring here and you’ll remember the night for years to come. Oh and the food, fantastic. You couldn’t get better food anywhere else in 100 mile radius. Very comfortable environment, this place deserves 6 Stars.

Good food, waitress friendly and very clean place. I really enjoy the place and the picture. Definitely something different when you try to get away from American food or fast food. It close to Fort Dix and that is a plus. We will be coming back soon.

We had a wonderful experience here for a late Sunday lunch. Everything was delicious and very filling. We will definitely be back! I had the mixed German salad, the Echtes Deutsches Eishein(boiled cured pork shank)(Think of the best smoked butt you ever had) with spaetzle and and red cabbage. My husband had the Gulaschsuppe(Hungarian beef stew), and the grilled Wurst platter with sauerkraut and German potato salad– the best GPS I ever tasted! Go hungry because the portion sizes are huge! The décor is a little overwhelming at first but just sit back and soak it all in! Waitresses were all very efficient and friendly. It’s BYOB

Upon entering the restaurant, I was welcomed and seated by pleasant staff members. After sitting, I took a look around to scope out the dining area. I have to be honest. The décor is… odd, to say the least. It’s cluttered with dolls, hanging lights, and photos. Cleaning the place must be a monumental task. The photos are also at each table. Some seem nice representing a love of the family involved with the restaurant, but then there are some pictures that kinda make you look like«ummmm…ok». I can see that it’s an attempt to maintain a traditional look and theme, but it’s too much and outdated. Anyway, moving on to appetizers. Pirogies were ordered, but the order was overlooked and we ended up passing on it since the main meals were ready. I did have the Hungarian stew and must say it was delicious. It was hearty and robustly flavorful. The portion was just right, ensuring that you had plenty of room for the entrée. I ordered the stuffed cabbage with spaetzle and green beans. Meh. It was so-so. The spaetzle was like warmed up corn pops. The stuffed cabbage had some flavor, but the meat within the cabbage was sorta mushy. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great. The green beans I ordered had loads of stems. Aside from that, they were ok, but these aren’t your farmer’s market green beans. The prices seem a bit off. 2 pieces of chicken and mashed potatoes for $ 19.50? I don’t know. The experience reminded of a place the you would see on Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible. The potential is there, but it needs a makeover. I believe the place has seen better days and is holding onto glory that has since passed. Overall, the place was ok. Friendly staff, menu with options for meals. The décor and overall environment could benefit from an update, the prices don’t match the order, and that strange clown doll lol. Hungarian stew was easily the best part, but the rest of the food didn’t follow suit. Hopefully the other menu options are more worthwhile. I’d say give it a shot. There are plenty of choices. It’s something that could be an acquired taste. Good luck!

We celebrated my wife’s birthday there. The owner and hostes welcomed us wormly. Their restaurant looks as amuseum, very beautiful and interesting. There is no liquor license but you allowed to bring your own. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. Great place to have a delicious dinner and some fun from staff. Unforgettable. Recommended!

There are not enough words in the world to describe how much I love this place. It holds a special place in my heart that has felt lonely since my Oma passed away many years ago. Walking into this place almost feels like a memory, rather than a dining experience. The décor is eclectic and cluttered, but feels like home. Like all of the random items my grandparents collected from their travels wherever my Opa was stationed during the Vietnam War. Some of the things on the shelves, we have the same ones still from years ago. The food. Where can I even begin? It’s exactly the kind of home cooked meal I used to be excited to get when visiting my grandparents. The plate my Oma used to make me after I would come home from dinner at a friend’s house because I would complain they didn’t serve enough food(because I’m used to this sized portion!) and I was still hungry. I try to get something different each time, which is easy during buffet times, but I can’t help but to fill up on that potato soup right off the bat!

To be honest I might rate this place a four star but it risks grade inflation. I had a good meal that was quite filling for 11 bucks. The service was good and the restaurant décor was kitschy but interesting. It only gets three stars because despite it being interesting and good, it was not great nor amazing. I had the fried chicken which was very crispy. The beef goulash was a starter(for an extra buck) and was good as well. I asked to sub the potatoes and got some red cabbage. Tasty. I have been here a few times and it is consistently good. Just not quite a four star.

Great authentic German food. However, the mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant??? Very odd, but I will have to ask about it next time I go… and there will be a next time!

Tired of food court food, so some co-workers and I decided to go to Sebastians for some german food. Very kitschy old world feel. Found the jaegerschnitzel on the lunch menu and ordered it along with a bowl of hungarian goulash soup. The goulash had a lot of beef in it, it was basically a tasty stew. The schnitzel portions were generous and the jaeger sauce had a lot of vegetables like carrots and mushrooms– much more than the brown gravy I was expecting. The home fries had some nice carmelization to them with big pieces of onion. Very enjoyable and someplace to repeat if work ever brings me back to New Jersey.
