I Really like this place for two reasons. THEFOOD & THEDRINKS The service is terrible. I’ve been here a couple times each time the service has gotten worse. The only reason I come back is I really love the sushi and scorpion bowls yum. Get new servers those girls walk around like their ish don’t stank. I literally got chased because I didn’t tip because she was so hard to find the whole time we were there and took cigarette breaks while serving us Ewww. I called and asked to speak to the manager and she answered and said she is the manger wtf. Never coming back after that experience. Too bad I’ll have to find a new place.

If i could give this place 0 stars i would. This place used to be good until they hired staff that think they are better than everyone and walk around with an attitude. The sushi isn’t bad but the atmosphere is complete trash. From the bouncers to the bartenders. To the waitresses. I would never go back to this place. And would not recommend it to anyone! If your looking for a nice place to eat and have some drinks go somewhere on shrewsbury st. A dive bar is better than mai tai.

I wish you could leave 0 stars. I have never written a review before on Unilocal, but I have also never been in such an unprofessional establishment either. Visited Mai Tai’s with my fiancé for sushi and was met at the door by the bouncer’s friend who was intoxicated taking I.Ds. He claimed he was the owner, which was clearly a lie, and then proceeded to threaten us if we didn’t show our I. Ds to him. I simple told him that I preferred to give my I.D. to the bouncer and he made it is mission to watch us the ENTIRE night as we ate sushi(seriously creepy). We completely ignored him so he had his bouncer friend come up to us and ask us if we had a problem in a threatening manner. The real owner needs to realize his staff is running this place as they see fit and are allowing their friends to do whatever they want there. I will be recommending to all I know to give their business elsewhere.

This place was really bad! The service was horrible. Waitress was lacking in customer service! The place was nearly empty on a Saturday night… that should have been a sign to find somewhere else to eat! The food was nothing special… food /menu was lacking almost as bad as the service! The egg rolls might have been one of the worst things I have ever eaten. Nasty! No wonder the waitress didn’t bother coming by to ask how everything was… Don’t waste your time with this place

Sushi was good, but I’ve had better. Place gets PACKED on a Friday/Saturday night, yet they have only 2 servers. Poor girls. I feel bad, but we barely saw her. I had been here several times previously and the mai tais were pretty good(they should be if that’s your name!) But my most recent trip, I was disappointed. Mai tais were gross. People at my table couldn’t even choke them down. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Dress code enforced(obviously). Great food, best to go on thurs fri or sat. The bartenders are friendly and prepare some great drinks(depends on what u order) and finally never had the sushi or really ate there so no comment on the food but still a great bar can’t wait to go back.

I loved Mai Tai! Just went there last night, they were open regular hours on the 4th. The drinks are really good, and they aren’t afraid to put alcohol on their drinks! I had to actually ask for a little extra juice in my pineapple passion because it was too strong for me! But I’m a lightweight, my fiancée said his drinks were fine. We had several Maki rolls, all were fantastic! The service staff were attentive but not annoying and it’s a relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend for a casual night out.

My friend and I went here for the first time. We went around 630 and as we walk by we thought it was closed. As we walked in you we still sign of what can be worn and ids they take. As we got in the server said we can sit anywhere so we sat at one of the booth. As we say down and server give us the menu and let us have a few minutes, I noticed that the table was very sticky, and I can see that table wasn’t clean properly. We didn’t move or asked cause this is our first time here. The server was good. Now the real deal. Mai tax was good. We had order crab ragoon and it came out quick. The inside stuffing when I broke it half the filling was falling out but it taste just fine just not how I usually have it. Now the sushi roll. The philly roll I had I noticed the salmon was a little chewy. I even asked my friend who had order a roll and she had noticed it as well. So when on my last piece, I noticed that the salmon looks a little dry, as it hasn’t be store correctly. I would said, don’t go there for the sushi. I would go there for the drinks but personally I’ll wouldn’t really go back there.

weird atmosphere. not sure if bar or club. maybe it was just a weird night but the music and attitude didn’t fit the setting. There was a bouncer at he door checking ID’s wearing a «security» shirt and the music was quite loud, so I assumed it would be more club-like, where it was just tables and a bar. They had several signs in the entrance about a strict dress code which was very specific and a bit of a laundry listnwhich added to the confusing is-it-a-club-or-a-bar feeling. Sat at the bar to drink and eat. Nothing too special or noteworthy. Bartender was adequate, food was good — nothing to rave about. Priced well.

My girlfriend and I went there last night(Saturday) around 8:30 pm. At first I wasn’t even sure they were open because the place was completely empty. We waited a couple of minutes at the door because nobody came to greet us and there is no sign that says to seat yourself. Finally I had to ask a bartender who informed us we can sit anywhere. The place is called Mai Tai Sushi bar so I figured I would try a Mai Tai and some Sushi. The waitress told me she couldn’t accept my Massachusetts ID card(issued by the state and we are in Massachusetts) and asked me for another form of Id. I didn’t realize that I was going to need multiple forms if ID just get sushi and mai tais. The best part is that I am going to be 36 in a few weeks and my doctor girlfriend also doesn’t look like a 20 year old. Stunned, upset and embarrassed we left and went to our favorite sushi place down the street(if you are in Worcester and like sushi then you probably already know it) where we spent $ 100 on food and drinks. That is money from two hungry and thirsty adults that Mai Tai could have had if they didn’t have a stupid policy. I am not shocked that it was so empty on a Saturday night now. ***update*** just saw I received an angry response. Interesting that they need to be aggressive in a bitchy cyber format. Guess that’s what you can expect from worcester. You stay classy, folks.

Was looking for a place to stop for some food and mai tais, and decided to try this out before heading to the banner. I won’t say it was amazing food or service, but it was a good time and goo atmosphere. I’ll definitely be going there again!

This place is a hidden gem. Sushi was so fresh and delicious. BEST Mai Tai’s! The crab rangoons were great too. You have to try the house salad… delicious. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back!!!

Friends and I came to Mai Tai couple of weeks ago to watch a Celtics game. Loved the multiple flat screens. Sneaky spacious, and the staff was pretty friendly. Loved the crab rangoons, the beef teriyaki which was juicy unlike most places. Walked away very impressed by the sushi, borderline blown away. Had the California rolls, eel rolls and tempura, the sushi was fresh and on par with the more expensive joints in Boston. Drinks were surprisingly strong and cheap(which I’m a fan of). Definitely a fan, and would recommend it to anyone. I’ll be coming back with friends real soon.

I love this place! Stephen and Kenny make some awesome maki rolls and I love when they whip up random new things! I’ve always had great service here and Tommy is smiling all the time. I wonder how his cheeks don’t hurt! Plus he makes some bomb Mai Tai’s that will knock you off your chair! Tiff is always laughing and joking behind the bar too so I guess I’m just oblivious to the bad reviews. I don’t know of anywhere else near here that serves food til 1am so I will definitely be back whenever I am in town. Plus those crab rangoons are addicting!

Good food, cheap drinks, HORRIBLEHORRIBLE service by the waitresses who think they are queen almighty. Never smiles, never comes to check up on us. We ALWAYS had to get their attention. Therefore, the past couple of times I just go straight to the Bar. One time, we sat down, and the bartender had to run over and serve us. so I asked where are the waitresses? To my horror, he pointed to a girl who had her legs up on the chair at the bar laughing with her friends? In which he responded, it was slow, so she’s chilling! It was slow?! Either way, she’s on the job, slow or not, she should not be horsing around and should be doing her job! We’ll be back, but not as often as before! Looks like from all the other reviews, everyone agrees with me that this place is lacking Good Customer Service!

So I’ve been back here quite a few times(4 – 5) since my first review… and the only complaint I have now is regarding the SERVICE. It has gotten soo horrible! It’s not that it was just one bad incident of bad service, but more like just about every single time and with different waitresses too! Half the time we are constantly sitting there, waiting and trying to get our waitress’ attention. They don’t bother to come by to ask if we need anything and its even hard to get our empty dishes taken away. WE are the ones who have to call for them instead! Plus, they also tend have this«i hate the world’ face on, no smiles what-so-ever… Really? I am trying to have a good time here… I do not want to be serviced by some grumpy inattentive waitress all night! During one incident, we had to literally shout across the room for our waitress’ attention when she flew past our table after many failed attempts of trying to get her attention and we were a big party too! You’d think they would be MORE attentive in that case. And at times, service was so bad that we had to walk up to the bar and order for ourselves! and get this, once our waitress had the nerve to get pissed that we went to the bar instead of to her because she doesn’t get a cut from that? seriously?! ha. maybe if you actually did your job we wouldn’t have to get up & order from the bar! I get that it gets busy, but that doesn’t mean you can just give halfass bad sucky service. It’s really a shame because I do like this place, exceptional food and cheap drinks but they really need to do something about this bad servicing because after the last incident, we’re very iffy about going back there any time soon…

We went here tonight with a group of friends and it was the worst service I’ve ever received anywhere. We were trying to give our money to this place and the waitress was too busy flirting with guys around the bar to take our drink orders throughout the night. The table next to us felt the same way. We waited 25 min to try and pay our bill and then had to legit chase down the waitress to pay it. They should find better servers if they want to succeed, what a waste of time that entire experience was.

Came here a week after its opening with some friends and had a blast. The sashimi and sushi was excellently fresh — couple that with some sake/brews(which were very cost-effective) and it made an excellent platform for a great time. The entire bar is very spacious, clean, and easily navigable. Service was top-notch as well. What is most distinguishing about this bar is the open-window setting which made it a cool(literally) and relaxing environment for conversation and meeting people.
