Awesome filet and great lamb shank. It was 22 for the shank and about 25 or so for the filet. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I’m a repeat customer and will continue to be.

This place is great! Food is amazing, staff are wonderful. My favorite dishes thus far Tinga salad is a must try, sausage pizza is delicious, the chicken enchiladas have the best mole I’ve ever had, and the quesadillas are great. I look forward to trying more things from the menu as I’ve never had a bad meal here. If you’re from the Woodside/Sunnyside, Jackson heights area, or just visiting this place is a must try. Bring cash, they don’t accept cards.

I’ve been here so often over the years that I now feel guilty for not reviewing this restaurant sooner. Outstanding brunch. The restaurant’s website photos of its dishes are accurate. I recommend the Bourbon Vanilla French Toast. Not quite affordable for an everyday breakfast, but an great weekend brunch spot for $ 15 to $ 20 per person(I’m including the tip in that figure).

This is a 3.5 star place. I went for lunch and it was relatively empty. Service was great– orders taken quickly and everything served in good time. Everything tasted authentic to me– this isn’t the watered down American version of Mexican food so if you’re looking for a chipotle/Taco Bell style burrito, don’t go here. I would say portions are fair. I ate my lamb shank and had some veggie quesadilla and was stuffed. Lamb shank was cooked perfectly– tender falling off bone, even my one year old could eat it with no chewing problems. Mashed potatoes and spinach also cooked perfectly. Flavor was just ok though. Nothing spectacular. Veggie quesadilla was eh… Wouldn’t get this again for sure. I prefer my quesadillas chewy with lots of mozzarella cheese. This was more fluffy with the crumbly cheese. The ambience is cozy– not a fine dining atmosphere. More like a hole in the wall. And because of that I would expect to pay less. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again. Parking is a little difficult because it’s in the congested part of woodside– on Roosevelt. Good luck with that. Take train here if possible. All in all, a decent restaurant for authentic Mexican food if you’re in the area give it a try. If you’re not, I wouldn’t make the special trip.

One of the specials tonight was grilled baby lamb chops with roasted Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes, so delightful! The sauce was a port wine reduction that enhanced the meat and vegetables while not obscuring the flavors… yum! I’ve been away from my home turf for long enough to miss the flavors of Queens… all of them. Order anything and be pleasurably surprised by how sublimely you can dine in the shadow of the 7 train.

Came here again after 2 years. Food is still excellent. This time we tried huevos rancheros, vegetable frittata and smoked salmon benedict and they were all perfectly executed. Attentive service. Quiet environment. The best in the hood.

Excellent place! Ambiance is lovely, the dish I usually order is the Tinga salad with shredded chicken, tons of vegetables and soft or hard shell taco(order however you’d like it) Their iced coffee is excellent and they have a whole array of deserts, I get this cranberry muffin(very little) called cranberry brown butter cake. Like a muffin but smaller, not too sweet but very good. They make and bake all their food here. Soooo, soooo good, I’m serious you have to come here! Conveniently located off the #7 train 52 street stop.

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed La Flor yet. This cute little Mexican restaurant is located in Woodside, NY on 53rd street and Roosevelt Avenue. This part of Woodside has gained some hype with new establishments but La Flor stands out with their outrageously unique menu. You’ll know it’s a winner when you enter and see the display of plaques showcasing The New York Times, Time Out New York, Zagat and New York Magazine. I’ve completely lost count on how many times I’ve been here. It’s a great spot for a date night with your better half; a great time with a group of friends or a nice quite dinner with family. If you’re looking to make an impression on a date come here. Anything you pick on the menu will get your taste buds going. Don’t forget to order a glass of wine to calm your nerves; think of the brownie points you’ll get as she enjoys being serenaded by two musicians(tips are appreciated). Having experienced fantastic services on many occasions I decided to take my aunt and mother here recently. My aunt was visiting me from Europe, bringing her to La Flor was a no brainer. I wanted her to experience a quaint Mexican restaurant with flare. Plus I wanted the bragging rights of showing her a good time in NYC. We were seated promptly as we entered, browsed the menu and decided on what we fancied. I was starving so I didn’t share my appetizer and everyone copied me. We all went with the Warm Brie Cheese– petite salad, poached pear, balsamic reduction for $ 9.95 each. I love it and it has become a reorder item every time I come. I recommend you try it for yourself. For an entrée I went with the Lamb Shank– Braised in red-wine, vegetables, Mexican spices, over mashed potatoes and spinach for $ 20.95. The lamb fell right off the bone, delicious. My aunt order the special Pan-Seared Fillet Mignon– served with roasted fingerling potatoes, greens and wild mushrooms $ 24.95 My mom ordered Pan-Roasted Atlantic Salmon– served with potato cake, sautéed spinach and tomato, white wine, caper-butter sauce $ 20.95. A great ladies night at La Flor and it won’t be the last. P.S– Cash ONLY

Bumped into this place by accident before going to the Barclay’s. So happy I did, I’m so surprised it was empty. The Food Was amazing, I shared the nachos with my friend, we chose chicken and it was so tender. We then split some steak tacos, it came with rice and beans. Everything was so flavorful. Manuel was our server and he was very nice. Highly recommended if you’re in the neighborhood.

3.5 — I expected more from what I heard about this place from friends and from Unilocal. My fiancé and I ventured here one Friday night and were seated promptly. There were 2 musicians playing, which was really nice. We ordered the Molcajete de Salmon($ 21), and Chicken Enchiladas($ 15) — all in all, a decent meal but nothing memorable for me.

Huevos rancheros. Pretty good. The egg was cooked a little too well –this one was a little dry in the middle and I like them runny when cooked«Sunnyside» up. The portion was small which is good if you are trying to lose weight but not good if you are a big eater. The décor is really nice, my favorite thing about this place. The windows stretch from the ceiling almost to the floor so it really opens up the room. $$ is accurate because the portions appear to be on the small side. Waitress was professional and on point

My favorite things to order. I order the appetizer of chicken flautas. I often order two, and that is my meal. Three perfect flautas with different sauces and cheese, on a bed of lettuce and tomato. Perfect. The Mexican hot chocolate. I often get two. Just do it. Nothing needed. No extra sugar. Just slurp it up. The tres leches cake. Made from scratch. I told my boyfriend to get his own. MINE! A pleasant surprise. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye, which is often on the specials list. I normally do not go for steak in restaurants like this because I have been disappointed. Oh snap! I will now find it difficult to go there ever again and not order a steak. Not like the steaks in a New York steakhouse. But, it is a fantastic meal! Good, good, good. In fact, if you have a date, and are on a budget, order the ribeye. Good move. You will definitely get some that night!

I’m a harsh critic. 3 stars is a good review. The food is good and the service is decent. You get what you pay for. Nothing spectacular about this local. It’s actually one of my favorites in the neighborhood. I’ve had: huevos rancheros, chorizo Note: this place is CASH only which caused for one unpleasant dining event(had to walk back to my apt to grab cash)

The bread basket and French toast are must haves. We ordered a cappuccino and got a black coffee instead, but no big deal, we added some milk and sugar and called it a day. Maybe the cappuccino machine wasn’t working. The yummy fruity maple syrup on the side of French toast more than made up for it.

I am complete shocked and astonished that I haven’t reviewed this restaurant on Unilocal before now because I have been going here since it opened nearly 15 years ago! This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in all of Queens. Over the years the menu has changed some, but still some of my favorites remain. All the tacos are delicious — I really enjoy the Tacos De Vegetables. The Calamari in crisp corn meal batter and spicy chipotle mayo. La Flor Torta is a must try among some of the main stays of the menu. There are often specials that Chef Viko adds to its usual menu of entrees keeping the menu varied and myself surprised that a kitchen so small can turn out so many dishes done so well! The baked goods and desserts are a must as well. Fresh Fruit tart is always delicious, Banana Bread pudding is insanely good as well. Their cookies and croissants are always on point. This place epitomizes what makes up the best of Queens. The beautiful flower(La Flor) growing through the crack of the pavement. The colorful mosaic décor(all made by Viko as well) creates a wonderful escape from the general gloominess under the 7 train. If you haven’t done so already, do yourself a favor and check out La Flor today!

Wowowow — I agree w/Laura R. 100% that this place is a gem. And actually it might be the very definition of what a gem is when it comes to restaurants in Queens! We came here for brunch on Sat around 11:30am and it was delicious. The place definitely started to fill up right at noon. I got the chorizo scrambled eggs with tortilla chips and it was REALLYGOOD. Their coffee was also on point — strong and bold. The menu options all looked really great, and they have so much range from classic Mexican dishes to American food and more French bistro-inspired items. And if every dish lives up to the quality of the dish I had at brunch, I could literally try one new meal here everyday for a month and be really happy(and maybe not even that broke). I also loved the décor of the restaurant — everything was handmade and very charming, with mosaics, cookbooks and other arts & crafts touches. Even the menus are handcrafted with wood and parchment paper. It feels like they plucked everyone’s favorite restaurant out of a small town and plopped it right under the 7 train in Queens :) They also had great music choice(they were playing Little Dragon when I was there), and I love the creative, seasonal menu with great prices and zero pretension. The staff was very friendly and they all welcomed and thanked us warmly when we came and went. I really can’t wait to go back!

The café is quaint. I ordered the special of the day: pork osso bucco with mash potatoes, a house salad and a potato croquette. The food was good and filling overall(though the pork was a little on the bland side for me and could have been more tender). The potato croquette was absolutely delicious; it was nicely breaded. The dessert looked really good, but I was too full to have any. I plan on coming back to try more of their food. Next up, the steak :)

Does the idea of a restaurant not being 100% authentic bother me? Absolutely not. At the end of the day, good food is good food if it’s traditional or not. I live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood and I eat a ton of authentic Mexican food and I like it a lot. I also really like La Flor a lot because you know what, it has awesome food. I have been here numerous times over the years and I have always left happy and satisfied. The brunch is stellar, their dessert is stellar. They also have live music which is a nice touch, but a tad on the loud side. The food: Grilled Portobello Mushroom Salad– With plum tomatoes baby greens goat cheese & balsamic vinaigrette. The major point about this place, they know how to dress a salad properly. I really like this dish a lot, it’s light, refreshing and the balsamic adds a strong punch in the face flavor, my only critique would be the goat cheese is a little too strong. Quesadilla de Camaron– jumbo shrimp, string cheese & roasted pepper. This dish is so good. You could taste shrimp in every bite, the sauces are great and the portion is pretty generous.
La Flor Torta– chipotle, barbecue marinated pork loin & fresh cheese. I think the bread is homemade and fantastic, the pork is cooked nicely but the cheese, quac and sauces are what make this dish shine. Oven Baked Jumbo Shrimp– stuffed with crabmeat, over mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach & corn scampi sauce. This dish is another really good dish. The shrimp is cooked nicely and the corn scampi sauce adds a subtle sweetness that pairs well with the shrimp. Spaghetti With Shrimp– sauteed seasonal vegetables in light garlic sauce. Seems like such a standard dish, but it has so much flavor. The shrimp is cooked nicely and the garlic sauce ties everything together perfectly.
