Options for rent vs. own allow you to minimize upfront costs or maximize longterm savings. Owning your system does require some upfront cash but it’s really worth it over a decade or two. Ask about the PGE «Feed-​In Tariff» program where PGE buys your power from you, and the monthly income is enough to pay for a good chunk of your solar panel costs. Also, with owning, you’ll get a tax credit for 30% of the system cost. But renting is cool too, because it helps make solar accessible to folks who wouldn’t be able to own.
This experience is in contrast to the estimate we got from another company, who did a very hard sell and was pushing renting (which earns them more money) even though owning was obviously a better deal for the homeowner.
