I’ve been coming to Akari on and off for a long time and love the place. My wife and I love coming here and can only give it a thumbs up We love Akari!

Omg! By far this place beats every sushi place. The gem located in a shopping center usually visited by locals has a great vibe. The owner always greats you by your name and knows exactly what you order. The sushi by far is the freshest and tastiest. Who ever knows what good sushi is needs to try at least once. After that it’s an addiction. Enjoy!

I have been coming here since 2008 and have not been here for 4 years and when I walked in I was greeted by the chef/owner that still remembered my name and what I use to order. The food hasn’t changed and is still my favorite spot for great sushi.

They have good lunch specials, and they sushi is really good and fresh. My favorite are the simple Spicy Tuna and Spicy Albacore. They also have a good Crunchy Shrimp Tempura. I have yet to leave disappointed with any of my sushi options. The space is small, so coming in any group larger than 2 can get complicated. They have a sushi bar you can sit at, and the wall is lines with two seaters; there is one large table by the window tho that people can sit at.

I remembered going to Akari almost 10 years ago since it was walking distance from my house. But I haven’t been back till recently. I first came here with a friend and then I came again twice within two weeks with my family. The service was great and the sushi chef was very nice and remembers us. When a place remembers me, that’s a huge plus in my book. So this place is starting to grow on us. We ordered some delicious rolls, sushi and appetizers. We loved them all. I only have pictures but for the life of me I don’t have the names. Yes, I’m such a dork!!!

My wife and I just had lunch here and we very much enjoyed it! We were the only one’s in the restaurant so service was most definitely quick! We split the A+A combo to start, ordering the baked steamed mussels and the BBQ beef short ribs. The mussels were great — very flavorful! The short ribs were a disappointment though. While the flavor was fine, it was very thinly sliced pieces of meat and a very small portion to boot. Along with the starter, we each got a roll. The rolls are the reason why we will definitely be coming back! My wife got the Sunset Roll. Her eyes opened wide with a big smile upon her first bite. She loved it saying it had a great balance of the sweetness from the sauce and the shrimp tempura and eel. I had the Tsunami Roll. Having it wrapped in soy paper allowed the fish to shine through. I also enjoyed this very much. It’s a tiny place with mostly bar seating and 4 tables(2 for 4 people and another 2 for 2 people). Since it’s in a strip mall, parking was super easy and plentiful. Can’t wait to go back.

I used doordash about a week ago on a very lazy Saturday night. I have high expectations for lobster hand rolls due to being used to an EXCEPTIONAL hand roll in the bay area. With those expectations, i was disappointed with another restaurant’s tasteless hand roll, but Akari lived up to my expectations. The hand roll was exceptional; just like the one i loved in the Bay Area. The teriyaki chicken, spicy tuna roll, miso soup, and rice were also very good. I’ll consistently be back for everything and can’t wait to dine in.

The best sushi in Los Angeles hands down. Rudy is not only an artist, but a very good friend as well. I followed him from his last gig down the street when he decided to open his own place. Greatest decision of my life! Forget the overpriced crap you get from the other places. They all get the same fish. It’s what the artist does to make the experience awesome. That’s what Rudy brings to your table. Rock on Rudy, the sushi is OK… I know, I keep coming back!(That is an inside joke) BTW, he will kill me cause it’s not on the menu, but ask for the pork chop. You will thank me… JR

Ordered my mom’s birthday dinner online. I was about 5 min. later than what the estimated pickup time was, and lo and behold, it was ready to go. My mom is a huge halibut fan and she was very impressed with their halibut sushi(3 orders of it!). I got an order of the albacore sushi, and it was definitely better than a LOT of other(and more expensive) places. Also got the Fuji, which is not a roll, but spicy tuna and spicy something else on crispy wonton skins. These things were gooooood!!! The Hokkaido roll was gosh darn good as well! Ordered enough food for 3 people to get very full, and it came to $ 51!!! We definitely have plans to go back and eat at the restaurant soon. And as it’s in a strip mall, parking was NOT a problem at all, which is always appreciated/taken into consideration when thinking of a restaurant on Ventura Blvd.

I love this place, Rudi is the best! The sushi is amazing. I never had a bad meal here. My favorite is the akari special cut roll, magic tune and the backed mussels. Sooo good. The fish is very fresh and the service is great. Small place but 4 people or less its perfect. There is one table that fits about 8, but only one. The owner Rudi is a really nice guy and always has a smile on his face. If you haven’t tried this place, you must!

Astonished at all the good reviews. The primary reason this restaurant gets two from me(and not worse) is at the very least there was kindness in the eyes of the sushi chef. Sadly though, the food itself was at the very best bland. The fish was lifeless, with perhaps the worst spanish mackerel I have ever tried. The Green Mussels had zero flavor, my hands still have the smell of bad fish on them. I have never ever left food on my plate at at a Sushi restaurant. Heartbreaking to even have to write this, but that streak was broken today. Such an incredible bummer, because the hole-in-the-wall vibe of Akari makes you think you found a gem. But the food is simply not good.
