If I am ever in the Jamaica Avenue area, I can guarantee that I will be stopping by Pop’s again. The interior is something out of an old history book; small tile floor, dark wood covering everything. Counter resembles that of a turn of the century bar than a eatery. I have eaten at places like this before, but no other place was immaculate as this! The tiles gleamed white even though they were clearly aged, the counter shined like it had just been polished earlier that morning. I went there because apparently my grandfather used to frequent this place when he was alive more than forty years ago and my curiosity was piqued. I was also amazed by the low prices of the food! The staff were kind, courteous, and had such a friendly attitude from the moment you entered till you left. I enjoyed coffee and a Belgian Waffle that was light, buttery, and flakey, the best kind! The bill was less than six dollars, and the woman who took care of me filled my cup up several times. This place was great and I definitely think I will look for it again in the future.

This place has very bad customer service. I didn’t even try the foo’s just because of how rude an old man was. When I called to report a complaint at 7 a.m. A woman answered I was hassled for the reason of my call and had to hear lies of no male workers and my request to speak to the owner was dismissed. I recommend you never step foot in this diner if you want to be treated with respect and virtue

I’ve been to this soda fountain diner for a couple of years now, mostly breakfast and its been really nice. However, the last two times have been disappointing. I think they have a new chef. The omelets were flat not fluffy like they used to be the home fries were too dry and scarce and the eggs that I ordered Sunnyside up over my pancakes, were runny and under cooked. I was nauseous from the meal for hours. I really want people to patronage this diner because they’re an old spot that I would like to continue seeing in our community but not at my expense. Check in to see who is the current chef and come back after he’s been replaced. Sorry Pop’s.

I would say this place it cute the décor is very nice. GREAT service but the food is not really worth it. Everything was tasteless. If they got a better chef this place could be amazing. Disappointed for sure

Been coming here for a few years because it is one out of two diners in my neighborhood. This place has new owners but I think the environment is still the same. Pretty quiet. Kind of too quiet. Lol The staff is friendly. Their food is okay. Wish it were more savory. I mainly go because of their convenient location and their spinach and feta omelet, which I highly recommend.

Love this old school diner. Great food + great prices. They have monte cristo, lumberjack breakfast and amazing corned beef hash. Need to come back for lunch and dinner.

This is the best place in town. The décor is simply amazing as its cozy and makes you feel very comfortable. Its one of the few places in New York that still has history connected to it. Just to walk in and see the ambience is a treat in itself. Coming down to food, it’s always great. I’ve been eating her for about 10 years now. The breakfast is extremely inexpensive they have specials 7-days a week until 11am, and I go out all the time not many places have specials like they do on the weekends. Also the portions are huge. My favorite is their eggwhite sandwich. The coffee is better than Starbucks or any other place, guarnteed. Lunch choices are also very large. They have amazing salads and sandwiches to choose from. Again the portions are huge. Their burgers are actually really good, my favorite is jusr a regular CheeseBurger with some fries. I go here all the time so I’ve even had dinner here. Even that they have specials all week long and freah soup everyday. My personal favorite is the vegetable soup. YUM! For dinner their steaks are delicious and I love all the pastas. Compared to other places the prices are reasonable. The management and service is great and attentive to all your needs. They pretty much acomodate to your preferences. Its a good feeling. I don’t know what these people on here are talking about. I have NEVER had a problem with my food. This is the best place to come and eat. I go back all the time. And will continue to do so.

Simple place. No frills. Just a quiet place to come and read the paper or relax for breakfast or lunch. Quick eggs for breakfast. The lunch burger is not the best you’ve ever eaten, but it’s good and not greasy and no rush to get out at either time of the day. I haven’t tried dinner here yet, but I’ll review when I do!

I was surprised and very happy to see they offer a veggie burger, which is what I went with. It wasn’t anything spectacular(and the white bread bun was kind of boring), but given that it’s the only place around that offers it, it was a treat. I also got the soup of the day, which was a vegetarian lentil and vegetable, which was quite tasty. The service was decent, and the waitress was very response to our request to have things rushed.

I wish I could love to eat here, especially since I hold Woodhaven close to my heart. During the 90s I ate here and enjoyed the food immensely. I returned in 2010 and was very disappointed. Hubs n I went for breakfast and I encountered a lil baby roach drowned in my pancake syrup. No bueno! The management was gracious enough to not charge us. The place itself is old fashioned and charming.

I remember when this place was called«pops«years ago now it’s «new pops«Love the patina here very 1950’s 60’s feel here but the owners that run the place does not know how to take care of what they don’t make anymore. I have a few memories in this place with some family. I went for dinner a couple times here did not like it, breakfast is what I go in there for love the breakfast here waitresses are friendly but I’m going to have to give this place 3 stars for not taking care of the place and once apon a time when it was«pops» the ice cream shakes was out of this world don’t know what happen when this place became«new pops»

It’s cozy and convenient to where I’m working and better than DD anytime! The omelettes are fine. I especially liked the western omelette with a side bagel instead of the toast. The service was quick and pleasant. The waitresses seem to know all the regulars and chat with them. I liked their coffee, which is important to me.

Under the elevated tracks of the J train in Woodhaven sits«New Pop’s Restaurant». This locale was once an old style bar, complete with a large mirror behind a bar, dark wood moldings, beautiful stained glass work along the walls and very distinctive booth seating. Part of the appeal is feeling like you’ve been transported back in time. Some of the parts of this place need some work like their display case for desserts, which looks like it needs some serious external repairs, but I tend to find such things help make, not break, an atmosphere. Clearly the bar was bought out ages ago and turned into a diner. The family that runs the place is super friendly. We were all seated quickly and I found myself quite amused at their menu, which included some awesome sounding items like challah bread french toast and kids meals named after super heroes(I almost ordered the«Batman»). Service was very quick and efficient. I ordered a simple breakfast of two eggs sunny side up, toast and ham. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the toast was warm and crispy. My girlfriend had the challah bread french toast with cheese and turkey on top — and man that was really nice. The french toast was thick, fluffy and tasty though I confess the turkey was a bit dry. My other friend also had their sausage, which was good and a bit spicy. I also really enjoyed their coffee and had several cups. Best of all, the prices were are very reasonable. Overall this was a great experience. I don’t happen upon this area often, but if I do at least I know a good diner to visit!

Oldschool. The food is decent/a little above average for diner breakfast food for the price so I’m a little surpised by the 3-star rating.

I’ve eaten at a lot of diners, and this one isn’t any more special than the next actually. It’s my local diner, so it’s convenient for me to walk to when I want to grab a burger with some fries. The Bison Burger Deluxe is my favorite. Service is good. The waitresses are friendly, and food is served in an orderly fashion. Lots of regulars go here since they have have been going here for a long time.

I really wanted to like this place, really I did. The décor inside looks to be original 1920’s which is really cool but the food was just not good. Also, we all kind of had that sneaking suspicion that it just wasn’t that clean… and then I went to the NYC food inspection site. Sorry New Pop’s.

The service was warm, inviting, and friendly. The food, however, was below average, when compared to other diner experiences. I had the Lumberjack Breakfast: a stack of three pancakes, scrambled eggs, and your choice of bacon, sausage, or both. It all tasted below average. The pancakes reminded me of quick, Aunt Jemima mix and had a weird taste near the center. The bacon was not great quality pork. And the scrambled eggs were greasy with no flavor. No salt, no pepper, nothing. There are aren’t a ton of diner options in this neighborhood; and, the other items might be much better executed. So, if you do go, I would stay clear of this dish and try the burger, which got a good review.

I have been living in Woodhaven for 33 years, and not much has changed about New Pop’s, save the name change and the management. They make a mean burger with all the trimmings. They serve ice cream till 10pm and make great pancakes on a cold morning. The prices are reasonable, and down right low if you eat in the city. New Pop’s booths are big and roomy, serve beer and wine if so inclined, and make a great egg cream. They also offer child booster seats, a kid friendly menu, and its a great place to go for any meal of the day. A lot of the locals call this place home, myself included. I make frequent trips to this low key diner for a Bifteki burger with spicy fries and an ice cold fountain cola. Cash and charge accepted, and they deliver. Keep this place open, Woodhaven is being swallowed by awful Chinese and Mexican food restaurants, and needs to retain a bit of its«hominess». So give it a go, you wont be sorry!
