I’ll give this place 2 stars because the Christmas cookies were good. They are very over priced and the help/owner is rude. Everything else I have ever gotten here was old but commanded a fresh price. They are more interested in getting the almighty dollar than customer satisfaction. One time I was having a conversation with the man at register and as soon as my transaction was finished he walked away when I was mid sentence to see if he could pawn off some old stuff on someone else. It’s terrible here, I am going to try to download picture of the chocolate chip cookies, 12 for $ 6, burnt and old, it’s more like brittle than a cookie!

Tried this place twice. No decaf espresso. Way, way over-priced. Very bad coffee. Rude help. Skip it.

My daughter went here for a field trip, they gave the kids refreshments, toured the bakery, got some baking instruction and from all accounts had a really good time so a big thank you to Higher Grounds for supporting our schools. They offer espresso drinks but seem to rely on cold brew for most applications if they can. If you’re not familiar cold brew involves a ton of grounds in cold water left to steep overnight in the refrigerator. This yields a really delicious and surprisingly smooth cup of coffee, I won’t bore you with the science but at low temperatures the more harsh and acidic compounds are not extracted and the more desirable and volatile flavor compounds are more effectively retained. All that means is you get more of the yummy coffee flavor and less of the bad. If you want the full scoop ask the guy behind the counter, he seemed very eager to explain things. The coffee shop is only half of the store, the other half is what looks like a nice little bakery operation, it had some nice looking offerings and I was told they have cinnamon buns on Saturday mornings and offer a wide variety of custom cakes. I can personally vouch for the regular loaf bread and the hand dipped ice cream cones were awesome as well. I don’t mind paying for quality but at $ 4.25 for a regular coffee I will probably continue to drink my own delicious brew on a daily basis and save Higher Grounds for a treat with the kids. Also, they are no longer in the mall, they opened up just north of Walmart on the same side of 8th Street, I think there used to be an international market there.
