Beware of this hotel. The manager is a liar and wants to make up things and tell you he’s charging your card for room damages with no proof!

Warm and Friendly staff/management, clean room and facilities, relatively nice breakfast spread. Great value for the price. :)

A simple discount lodge in a quaint town. It’s also about the only show in town unless you count in a few bed and breakfasts. This is the quintessential mom n pop franchise that’s starting to show some wear. TV: HD channels on cable but TV is vertical screen analog causing a sometime concave look to the images. If the TV weather is showing the five day forecast we can see 3 ½ days you get the picture-well not quite the whole picture. Beds: King size bed for sure about the hardest bed I’ve rested on. Should work great if I had a back problem. Here is where the PR person for Super 8 can go to work and call it ‘King Size Support’. Keep in mind it’s not big dollars for this stay, so there’s no pool, no hot tub and the continental breakfast consists of bananas, yogurt cups and tangerines. The owner is friendly and helpful the rooms tidy and cleaned quickly if staying more than one night. I had least three bars of Wi-Fi strength throughout the visit and I didn’t have to log on constantly.

First off, I’d like to say that the people who run this hotel are very nice and pleasant to deal with. The property and rooms were also very very clean. However, there were several parts of my stay with which I was dissatisfied to the point that I would not come back here. The Wi-Fi service is extremely poor. The signal drops frequently and isn’t very strong to begin with. The beds are very old and need replaced. With every move you could hear the springs underneath and I woke up every morning with a very stiff back. There is not an iron in the room… I didn’t check to see if they had one I could borrow because it wasn’t necessary, but there usually is an iron in every other hotel I stay in. There was only an end table on one side of the bed, when it would have been convenient for one on the other side as well… not a big deal, but a good convenience. There was a large draft underneath the heater in my room, and I’m sure they’re losing quite a bit of money on their electric bill because of that problem. The worst part was that we got 6″ of snow starting the 1st afternoon through the 2nd night. They were so kind to brush off all the cars in the morning, unless it was the wind, but that was a welcome when I came out. However, they did not have the parking lot plowed. All of the streets around were plowed very quickly as well as neighboring parking lot businesses. This was the ONLY business I saw not plowed. With all of the drifts, I had to back straight out of my spot to try and get into the tracks of other cars that had left, and I ended up getting stuck. All they had was a shovel and this poor hired man was trying to shovel the whole lot, which is ridiculous. They did plow it later that day; however most businesses had plows going in their lots 24 hours before after the snow started. There were a couple inches on the ground the 1st afternoon when I came back and I had to try 3 times to get up the drive because of the incline and the snow! Even once I got in, I had to trudge through the fallen snow to get into a spot. When you’re running a business where people are staying at your property, you need to make sure they’re able to safely get their vehicle in and out. A hotel of all places should be the first to get a plow into their lot after the snow falls!

I am absolutely positive that I have met the most warm and happy Super 8 manager of all time. Bill at the Super 8 in Winterset was just great. We felt at ease immediately. If you are in the Des Moines area and want to check out the Bridges of Madison County the Super 8 is a nice, clean, affordable place to stay.
