Food was good. I had the spicy garlic eggplant with brown rice. Lots to choose from on menu but not overwhelming. Decent prices but took a while for food to come out. Nice ambiance. I will go back when I’m in the area.

I was really impressed with this hidden gem in Winston Salem. We came here for lunch and they have a special lunch menu which was really reasonably priced and still available on the weekend! The special comes with miso soup, a spring roll and your meal of choice. I ordered the red curry with chicken. First, everything was delicious. Second, everything came out in the right order and timing.(As a one-time waiter I really appreciate this) The soup came out first — it was hot, tasty and fresh. You can taste the cilantro which I loved! Almost immediately after we finished the soup the plates were removed and we were brought a spring roll with our own individual dipping sauce. Almost immediately after we finished the spring roll our entrees came out, all of which were well plated. The red curry was spectacular. It’s a little spicier than I’m used to but the flavor was absolutely spectacular! I can only imagine that everyone’s order was very good too because there was no sharing! Really great place — go check it out!

My husband and I are in Winston-Salem for the USA Cycling Masters National Championships. I was looking for a place to carbo load the night before an 88.5km road race. Since we are both vegan we needed a place that was veg-friendly. We found Thai Basil on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We informed the waitstaff of our dietary requirements and they accommodated with this FANTASTIC Drunken Noodles dish that was absolutely perfect. We loved our experience so much we went back the next day after the race to get 5-different veggie sushi rolls and their fresh spring roll with spicy peanut dipping sauce.

Our favorite Thai spot in Winston when we lived there. Good service too. I liked the green curry which is similar to what you might get in Thai restaurants in NYC.

We just ate at here. The sushi was excellent, the service was super friendly and spot on. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. Even out door area too. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. My husband and I travel to Winston Salem ever other month and plan to make this place a usual stop when we come.

Thai! Total yum! Red curry scallops done very well, asked for three star heat and it’s hot for me! A bit sweet but besides that perfection!

Yummy Thai food and delightful sushi are what keeps me coming to The Basil Leaf. I am consistently happy with what I order from here. I’ve had everything from the specialty sushi to Pad Thai to my favorite light lunch option, Yum Woonsen. It’s a glass noodle salad served with Thai basil, minced chicken, and scallions tossed with lime juice, onions, ginger, tomatoes, coriander and a touch of roasted chili paste. The service is always divine and it’s always quick. This is the perfect spot for excellent Thai food and sushi, and to just get away from all of the chaos. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and gives you just what you need for lunch or dinner. The prices are excellent and I can’t wait for another visit.

Yes, yes, yes! Sushi! And really, really good sushi at that. Went here for a mini date night celebration and it was perfect because I wanted Sushi but the fiancé isn’t a big fan. The Basil Leaf solves that problem by offering a big Thai Menu with loads of sushi options. Started off with some small appetizers, which were tasty, the garden spring rolls hit the spot. Then moved on to a sushi appetizer(chef’s choice). Decided to order the Old Salem, and I am glad I did. The best sushi roll I have had since being here on the East Coast! It was a perfect combination of fish/cucumbers in the middle, wrapped in rice, topped off with some more fish, sprinkled with crispy bread-like crumbs, and drizzled with a perfect house sauce. It was presented and prepared beautifully. It even had a lingering after-taste that wasn’t too spicy, but also something you just love. I didn’t know what to get after getting something so good, so one of the staff recommended a new sushi roll not on the menu, considered to be a spicy tuna combination. It was prepare with the same attention to detail and style as the Old Salem, and it hit the spot perfectly. Just perfection. Next time you want sushi, give this place a shot you won’t be disappointed.

This is my families new favorite Thai restaurant! The curry dishes are excellent and I personally love the stir fry as well! The atmosphere is modern and updated and offers music and a small bar/tv as well! The service is wonderful and the staff knows their regulars/customers very well and offer a warm welcome every time! They do have a sushi bar – but I have so many Thai favorites, I haven’t tried that area of the menu yet! I highly recommend this restaurant! It’s perfect for both family outings to a romantic dinner out for two — I frequently get to-go food as well. LOVE this place… a must try if you have never been!

The only reason I didn’t give this place 5is because I didn’t care for the broth they serve at the very beginning of the meal. The sushi literally melts in your mouth, especially the salmon. I will frequent this place! Yum!

There have been quite a few times that I have searched for a new place to eat only to discover upon arrival that they have spent a decent amount of capital on marketing. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and haven’t had the opportunity until today, and my husband and I have had the best experience. The service is very friendly, genuinely so. The restaurant itself is clean and contemporary, instrumental music in the background not so overpowering to annoy you but very relaxing. The menu is clear, easy to read and the table and chairs were comfortable and clean — no sticky residue, a pet peeve! Our food came quickly and was exactly what we expected — it was delicious. My husband ordered crab Rangoon as an appetizer and ended up ordering a second order and then an order of veggie spring rolls. They were crispy and not greasy at all and he ended up ordering a second order of those too! I ended up having to save this review as a draft and months later here I am finishing it. The restaurant was so memorable that even today, I still remember how good the food and service was. I ordered a steaming bowl of coconut curry and a small salad and it was just to die for. The staff were so polite and friendly, just always smiling and simply kind. I wanted to go back just to feel like family again!

What a delicious Thai(and sushi) restaurant. I swung by for a quick lunch during my break this afternoon. I had been wanting to try it for a while. The staff were very friendly and attentive to myself and other customers. As soon as I sat down the waitress brought over a spring roll and a small cup of soup, both were great. I ordered the Red Thai chicken curry extra spicy and it was a generous portion considering it was only 7.99! I loved it and took half of it home for lunch tomorrow! I cannot wait to go back with my husband sometime soon so he can see how good it is and I can sample other menu items :)

So this review will be a little out of my norm but I will definitely be going back to this place if I ever get the chance… I knew I would be heading to Winston so I decided to scope out some places to check out before I got there… thanks Unilocal. This place popped and since I have a love affair with sushi I bookmarked it. The place was packed and we had a group of 7. It is not a small place so if it is a busier weeknight you may want to call ahead. We grabbed some seating outside, ordered some food, it came but then it started to rain so we moved inside, but had to wait for our table to be ready. We finally got our table but still had to wait 30mins or so for our food. There was another group of 18 or so, so the kitchen was swamped. Finally we got our food. The Winston Salem Roll I got was excellent but honestly since I waited so long I was still hungry after I ate it. I asked how long the wait would be to get another and it was another 20mins, not cool. So I just decided to leave. Before we did the owner/manager brought the table a dessert on the house for all the inconvenience and the wait. I really appreciated that, but was definitely still hungry. So I really wanted to give this place four stars but since I waited, was still hungry, and live out of town I am not sure. When I am back in town I will be sure to go back to check it out again because the roll was really EXCELLENT!!! So I guess based off food this place has 4 – 5 stars, but based off of service it’s definitely 3.

A go to lunch spot for me. The service is always good, the owners are very friendly. The food comes out hot and delicious. I’ve never had a bad experience here. Love the drunken noodles.

Had the Winston Roll and the Cherry Blossom Role. If I went back I’d definitely do the later again, however, am I going back? The service was bad — forgot the drink and the food arrived a good 30 minutes later… if not more. Recommend the food, not so much the service.

The Pad Kee Mao is perfect! The best I’ve had EVER! I’m very excited to try my other Thai favorites-Pad Thai and Pad see ew! There is hope I also had the fried spring rolls, they were fresh, crispy and hot! The food is definitely made to order here and because of that the noodles did not stick together and were not gummy at all!

Don’t know how WS qualified to have such an assortment of delicious Thai restaurants, but we did and Thai Basil is tied for first. We have gone here several times and are always impressed by the food and service. I always get the vegetarian phở and find it to be the best that I have had anywhere! And I have had a lot of phở. The flavor is incredibly rich and balanced perfectly. Of course, I always have to sample my husband’s meals too and love the curry, lad nar, and pad woodsen as well. One of my favorite things about Thai Basil is that we can get sushi as well as a delicious Thai food! Sushi not as amazing as Mizu, but it is the only Thai place where you can get sushi too, so for that I give them major props. Also, if you go for lunch, you get 2 spring rolls and a taste of some sort of excellent sweet and sour tasting soup. One of my fav places to go and sit outside on a pleasant evening and enjoy phở, an Alaska roll, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc!

Very good restaurant. Our food was absolutely outstanding. The wait staff was very attentive. I don’t know how we missed this place. They have been open for two years. The good was so flavorful. And the vegetables in each dish were not overdone they were cooked to perfection! If you’re looking for authentic Thai food I would definitely suggest this restaurant.

The fiancé wanted sushi. I wanted Thai, enter The Basil Leaf! I can’t believe I haven’t made it into this place before. The interior was bright and although all the tables are just in one rectangle room it didn’t feel crowded or squished at all. We started with a shrimp tempura roll and the spicy tuna roll. I like that the shrimp tempura is the smaller sized roll, not the huge pieces that you can barely fit in your mouth. The spicy tuna was good although I would have preferred more tempura flakes in it. On the Thai side of things we split a dish of Chicken Pad See Ew. It was delicious and had a good amount of sauce on it. I also got a Thai Iced tea and it was perfect. Sweet but not crazy sweet like at some places. For dessert we got the sticky rice with mango. How have I never had this dessert before?! It was soo good, the warm sticky rice with the cold perfectly ripe mango was the perfect end to the meal. Service was friendly and fast. No water glass went unfilled.
