Ok, bread was tasty but ice cold, salad was cold, beans were cold, water was cold, steamed veggies were semi warm, garlic mash was luke warm but paste like texture and the ribeye steak I ordered was a bit over cooked and tough! Service was a bit better than good, lady with the euro accent kinda freaked me out a bit!

This used to be a good Basque restaurant, but it is no longer. I have been going to Ormachea’s for a number of years, but was greatly disappointed the last time when I found it had changed. They should remove the Basque from their name and call it a wild game and Portuguese restaurant, and that ridiculous limo with the steer horns outside really needs to go.

OMG The new owners have ruined this wonderful restaurant. We drove over 400 miles out of our way for a meal at Ormacheas. What a terrible disappointment. I gave it two stars only because the service was very good. The shrimp cocktail was actually good. They have discontinued the wonderful Basque vegetable soup which was another disappointment. Now you get soup or salad. The soup did not sound wonderful to me so we had the salad. It was head lettuce with tomato, cucumber, cheese and the most tasteless blue cheese dressing I’ve had in a long time. Hopefully one of the other dressings would have been better. They served beans with the salad which we cold and tasted like they came right out of the can. Flat. The lamb shank recipe has changed but my husband said it was okay but very tough. My steak was the worst I’ve ever had, tough and salty. The owner told me she thinks it is tender and tasty. Oh well everyone has different taste buds. The bordalise sauce served with the steak was ice cold and it was never offered to be warmed. Same goes for the twice baked potatoes which were cold inside, but the only comment was sorry. No offer to warm the potatoes. The veggies were well done and tasty. Sooooo disappointing. We won’t be back. There is no longer a reason to make sure Winnemucca is a stop on our way home. Sad.

On the lunch menu the only out of the ordinary choice was a Portugese stew of shredded chuck and cabbage. This was good and complex but seemingly underseasoned although I am not knowledgeable about Portugese cuisine. The bread surrounding the stew was undistinguished and quickly disintegrated. Salad was iceberg and prosaic fixings. Service was friendly but a bit scatterbrained. Ambiance was unironic retro – collection of local brands burned into the paneling was interesting.

A Winnemucca local recommended Ormachea’s to me when I mentioned that I had always wanted to try Basque cuisine. It was a ton of food but nothing really blew me away. And I don’t know about french fries, does that count as Basque? I think so much time has passed since the heyday of Basque culture in the Great Basin, that perhaps this more of a standard American steak restaurant nowadays. It’s rather expensive too, so even though you’re getting a ton of food it’s not particularly a great value or anything.

I’d been wanting to try this place but am never driving through for dinner. So stopped for lunch. A very nice experience all in all. Décor is dark, wood paneling, red cloths, black placemats. Lots of lunch choices. They come with soup or salad and a big plate of fries. My server was outstanding. Food came out quick and hot.

Great food. Basque restaurants are slowly becoming a thing of the past. At Ormachea’s One meal is enough for 3 – 4. Great cabbage soup, sauteed garlic. Lamb shanks were terrific with huge chunks of potatoes and carrots. Side dishes of green beans, pasta. Also had a small green salad. Complimentary glass of wine is offered. My friends steak was somewhat too gristly and quality of the beef was not up to par for the price. Great selection of top shelf drinks. Limited, but very decent wines. Bring your wallet. Tab around $ 80 with 2 cocktails.

Driving through town, the reviews caught my eye so I had dinner here. First of all, the service was amazing. Friendly, funny, helpful and very timely. Ordered the sampler plate to try out basque food. Oh my, sooooo much food; really too much. Soup was tasty, salad Simple but tasty. Bread thick and soft and amazing. Then dinner starts arriving – a 3 inch meatball(which was the only food I disliked), a bowl of green beans, a bowl of spaghetti, a platter of delicious fries, two fillets of pork and two breasts of chicken. Seriously, I could have fed at least THREEPEOPLE with this much food. It was TOO much. It made me feel bad to see food go to waste, frankly and I felt gluttonous sitting alone at a table with 8 or more plates of food in front of me – I exaggerate NOT. The food was good, hearty, felt like good olé home cooking but not amazing flavors. I would eat here again but split a plate! Prices were very good for the amount of food you get.

We decided that we wanted to give Basque cuisine a try, and this restaurant was listed in the brochure of local attractions that our motel gave us. Having read reviews ahead of time, we knew to split an entrée, and ended up sharing the lamb chops(the second diner is charged the price for sides, which I think was $ 11 or $ 13). The soup comes out in what looks like a big mixing bowl. It was a bit too peppery for my taste, but helped clear out the sinuses! The salad was good, and for sides, we each got a baked potato, as well as shared dishes of pasta and green beans. There were three lamb chops, and a small charge for the roasted garlic on top(which we didn’t realize until seeing the bill). The restaurant is strangely quiet(background music was very low) and it was a bit awkward until more people were seated and conversations started to fill up the dining room. The food was good but not great, though we were glad we tried it.

Ormachea’s Dinner House was recommended to us by our hotel staff. The ratings on Unilocal was 3.5 stars so sounded good. We are traveling back from Park City Utah and a good meal was sounding like a great plan. This basque restaurant was as promised friendly staff and good food. Prices appeared to be reasonable for what looked like a lot of food: soup, salad, glass of burgundy, French bread and an entrée. The food was excellent and we even left room for bread pudding. The only reason I gave it 3 stars versus 4 stars was I made the mistake of ordering one of the specials which was a 10 oz. steak and crab. It cost me $ 49.00 Yikes. Shame on me for not asking but I think when you go over $ 25 maybe you should advise the customer. Now the food was very tasty and bountiful but $ 49. Btw service staff is very friendly and sharp. I say go with what’s on the menu and when the long list of «specials» is told to you pass them up or ask for the price first.

WONDERFULSERVICE. Sweetest kindest lady served us & did everything to make sure we were happy & got what we wanted. All other staff soooo friendly & very helpful a as well. The food was pretty bad but we were so hungry we are happy we ate there. We got a lot for our money. The main feedback is: cabbage soup is great but the liquid in it tasted very fake(bouillon cubes). The somomo was dry & tasted fake. Husband wasn’t impressed it was battered & doesn’t say that on the menu. My shrimp were nice :) Fries would have been much better if made in house. They tasted like microwave fries & cheap veg oil. Salad & soup portions were fantastic. Gabanzo bean as a veg side is not too great since it’s not a vegetable but a legume(closer to grain than veg) but overall appreciate the lovely VERYKIND staff :-D

We were on a road trip and went to this restaurant because of the positive Unilocal reviews. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food was flavorful and did not have a long wait time. One serving of the combo fed both of us and we had half left over! The furniture and furnishings were not up to par with the quality of food and staff.

It’s been a few years since I was here, but I’ve dreamt of returning. An almost legendary restaurant in the area. This is the sort of place people tell stories about, so you think to yourself, it’s gotta fall short of expectations, but it doesn’t! Hearty food served without frills but accompanied by mounds of flavor and attitude! This place was enjoyable enough that, even though I moved across the country, I want to find an excuse to go back to the area just to eat here! Whether you are local or just a passerby on the highway, you will be glad you stopped in and gave it a try… Bring your appetite and if possible, a nearby place to sleep, as their drinks will make driving a terrible idea… So, have the food, have the drinks and fall asleep sated!

Always in the mood for some good Basque food. Service was great, friendly and fun. Good atmosphere too. Food fell short, soup and salad both good but the entrees were so so. Chicken was grossly overcooked, pork also, meatball tasted of burnt garlic. Probably have to try the other Basque place in town next time.

My wife and I are on a trip from Denver to Bellingham WA via Medford OR. Winnemucca is a convenient stop on route 80 at the junction of 95. We didn’t have high hopes for dinner, but the Ormachea was a wonderful surprise. The food is great and plenty of it. I had the lamb shanks and we just ordered sides for my wife. We had three lamb shanks, carrots, locally grown potatoes(boiled and as french fries, pasta, salad, french bread, and cabbage soup. Dinner came with a glass of wine and I had a good martini; all for approx. $ 50 including tip. The staff is great. Ask for JORDAN as your waitress! Side note: The soup was just like my wife makes, which was a surprise and very good. The lamb shanks and chunky vegetables reminded me very much of lamb tajin which I have had in Algeria. There it is served with couscous.

Stopped here for some Basque food. I looked at the menu and found NONE! I asked the waitress and she said we just have sandwiches, soup and salad at lunchtime! WTH!!! The place was EMPTY; should have just left. I had the grilled chicken salad and clam chowder. The soup was way over salted and not that good and the salad was loaded with bell-peppers. The fries were good and service was good. Very disappointing.

I’m just torn. They are more than«A Ok» yet I can’t say«Yay! I’m a fan.» so… This time going in I decided to go with the family sampler. Comes with one meatball, two solomo pork chops, and a huge chunk of basque chicken. All dinners come with a side and fries and spaghetti. Two others at my table ordered up the«32 ounce» ribeye. They were out of full 32 ounce cuts so they gave 216 ounce cuts in it’s place. Everyone enjoyed their food with no complaints. Great Picons. Oh and just a tip, they charge per soda as my coworker found out after spending $ 6 on 3 cokes. That being said, prices are a little higher here than I would expect them to be.
