Anytime I’m with anyone in the Wheaton/Winfield area I always convince them to come to Tony’s Steamers with me! None of them have ever had anything bad to say about this place. The people are nice, they’re locally involved & I love the décor they have! Their hot dogs are my favorite but their gyros & sandwiches are good too! Parking gets really full in front of their store so sometimes you have to park a few stores down. But that’s a good thing right?! I live in Lisle now but still come out to Tony’s when I’m at my parents!

Always a hit for a quick tasty meal! They offer the best Chicago style hot dog ever! The owners are great! They truly care about the community! They sponsor kids teams and always help with donations for local programs for kids! The menu is huge! Everything from hot dogs to chicken sandwiches to the best burgers in town! Tony’s is truly an icon for the little town of Winfield!

My husband just had lunch here of a corned beef sandwich, small fries and a coke, $ 9.96. It was shameful in size, hardly filling. We wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Previously, i ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which was so thin I had to open it to find out they had split the breast lengthwise. No more doubt now. Not even close to getting your money’s worth.

Great CHICAGO style food and great local atmosphere. Have been coming here since the 90’s with family and friends and it is enjoyed ubiquitously. This place is a staple of Winfield and the surrounding community!

Excellent as always. I had the Jumbo dog special with fries. A solid value at $ 4.19.

It was decent. We came here on a weeknight and ordered four gyros plates. The bread is extra if you want it with the platter. They also put feta and olives on the gyros so if you don’t want it, let them know to put it on the side. The fries that come with the platter are also decent too. This location is in a plaza off of county farm road and Geneva behind the walgreens. There is plenty of parking here as well so fear not! You can eat inside or take it to go. All in all average experience. They do have teenagers working who don’t speak up very loud and look super nervous when you ask them a question. So be patient with the young ones!

Owner here are fabulous. We love the hot dogs, gyros and fries. Not to mention the BEST ice cream around in our opinion. Lots of seats and, they even have a arcade for the kids to play and gumball machine. We enjoy coming to Tony Steamers

I’ve been going to steamers for years. Tony is always there with somewhat of a smile and always says hello! He’s a hard worker with a great little restaurant! I’ve never had a bad experience here! Give it a shot.

I never thought this place was that good when ever I was in the area. Today I had a grilled chicken on a pitta with feta cheese and tomato. Let tell you, it was amazing! The gentleman who made it for me gave an idea for next time. To request a wrap instead! Its in a bigger thinner pitta bread. Everyone is so nice and friendly… great customer service!

I want to take a moment to compare Tony’s Steamers to Scooby’s. Those who’ve seen my Scooby’s review know I was pretty rough on them. I make no apologies. You might disagree. You might say comparing Steamers to Scooby’s is comparing apples to oranges. Two different animals? The better comparison would be to Smoke House in Wheaton? No. Not really. Not at all. The only differences I see? Scooby’s has drive-thru and promotes the hot dogs harder. And Steamers will sell you a beer. They’re both old hot dog joints underneath. They sell dogs and Italian beef and Italian sausage and burgers. Steamers does a gyro plate. Tony has the map of Greece stamped on his round little puss. So he sells gyros. Two observations: Steamers prices are appreciably cheaper. My beef sandwich, fries and medium diet pop cost nine bucks and change. Try $ 12 for the same meal at Scooby’s. The Scooby’s guys constantly grouch at their teenagers to get out and mop the dining area and clean the tables. They make a loud show of barking that order. Steamers is immaculate inside. Cleaner than Scooby’s. I didn’t hear anyone shouted at. I did see a young man wiping down tables, collecting trays. Tony, behind the counter, wasn’t riding the kid. No need. He was doing his job. Let’s talk about Tony for a moment. I sat and ate my Italian beef and watched him work. He’s out front with the line staff and misses nothing. He greets folks with a friendly enough hello. If someone wants a beer, he handles the bar sale. He has one eye on the line. One eye scanning the dining area. He looks back over his shoulder to check the Mexican kitchen staff. If the order line gets a little long he says(in a normal voice), «You guys okay?» The idea being he’s ready to jump in and help if he’s needed. Let’s talk about his staff. Pleasant looking young people. He has a Help Wanted sign just as Scooby’s does. High turn-over business. He wants his hires over 21 and«responsible.» Seems reasonable enough. He must be a decent judge of talent. Staff seems normal. Seems to work for him. I may be all wrong. Tony looks like he runs a tight ship. We know the guys at Scooby’s run a tight ship. A Captain Queeg style tight ship. A Jimmy Cagney in Mister Roberts tight ship. Maybe Tony is a tyrant behind the scenes. Maybe he’s exactly like the old guys at Scooby’s. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been fooled. My gut tells me that isn’t the case. There’s no place to hide at Steamers. It’s all out in the open, in public view. The man isn’t shouting. Staff isn’t shouting. Both places are high volume lunch operations. Probably about the same level of efficiency. They differ in their corporate cultures. The tone of behavior set by Tony is more sane, more grown-up. You get the impression he treats employees like adults. Probably until they prove otherwise. Steamer’s is Cheaper than Scooby’s. Steamers is cleaner that Scooby’s. Steamer’s is friendlier than Scooby’s. That’s all.

I have a Wendy’s within walking distance of work, but I pass it up in favor of driving 10 minutes to get a burger at Tony’s Steamers. This place is everything you want in a local eatery: classic rock, photos of their sponsored Little League teams, cops from the sherriff’s department, and the owners ringing up your order. Plenty of sports, soaps, and cable news on the 4 muted TVs, but easy enough to ignore. The place is kept clean even though the furniture feels a little old school, but that’s part of the charm. I recommend the cheeseburgers and chicken wraps, but its probably the fries that keep me coming back.

Stopped in here yesterday to-go. I have been here a few times over the years but it had been awhile. Based on my experience from yesterday: — hotdogs were a solid«good». Not the best I’ve had, but far from poor. I get mine with just salt, mustard, and sport peppers. They put 3 peppers on each, which is cool. The bun could have been steamed a bit more(it seemed — at least with my order — they were just taken right out of the box — dry. But, I also had a 10 minute trip home so they could have lost their edge that way, too). The dogs were good — could have had a bit more ‘zest’ to them. They were 2.69 each — which is 30 cents cheaper than the very over-priced Scooby’s in West Chicago. — Beef — great. Nice flavor to it. A bit over $ 5.00(still almost $ 2 cheaper than Scooby’s beefs which are 7.00 before tax). It could have been a bit larger, but overall I liked it. — Service was good. I was out of there within 5 minutes of placing my order, and it was semi-crowded. I would return again…

Every Chicago Suburb needs their own Vienna Beef hotdog joint. These places rarely reach Portillo’s levels of bliss, but can always be counted on for some reasonably priced greasy goodness. Tony Steamers is no different. This place is a Winfield standard, and anyone who played little league in the area knows it well(WIA anyone?). Expect your full menu of dogs, burgers, gyros and sandwiches, with plenty of deep fried appetizers to go around. Reasons to go: 1. They have arcade machines 2. The hotdog special comes with loads of fries, and is not to be missed 3. They serve beer on tap(by the glass or pitcher) 4. I may or may not be addicted to pizza puffs Perfect place to take kids after a baseball or soccer game.

I love the feel of this place. They’ve been around for quite sometime, so they are doing something right. This is your typical burger and hot dog place. A grease joint, if you will. They have other specialties, but stick to one of those because they are good. I love how they wrap the hot dogs with fries in the wrap. Makes me feel nostalgic. I’m biased towards Smoke House in Wheaton because it’s very close to my humble abode, but they are both fantastically yummy.

Tony’s Steamers(or just«Steamers» as I know it) was non existent to me up until about a year ago. I had learned of this place from a coworker at my last job, as she was quite the fan. I was curious as to why she knew about it and I hadn’t, despite living in Wheaton for 17 years or so. After trying it a few times, I grew to like the place and their vast menu. After having my Friday afternoon off and being out and about in the area, I realized I needed something to eat, and fast. I immediately decided on Steamers, as I enjoy hotdogs but my fiancé does not. So I decided I would indulge without guilt. I ordered the hot dog special with everything, which is a hot dog with fries. That doesn’t include a drink, so I decided to order a small Sprite(they had Sierra Mist instead). Much like my last experience elsewhere ordering a hot dog, I was asked if I wanted celery salt, but also the obligatory«sport peppers?» I really, REALLY wish places would assume that if one wants«everything» on their dog, they DO want celery salt and hot peppers. I know they’re just doing their job but… I was slightly irritated. I blame it on my hunger pains. No sooner than I paid for my order and sat down, it was ready. the lunch rush was long gone and only a couple of other diners were left. I chose a booth next to a window, and was about to sit down when they called out my order. I grabbed my tray, sat down, and took a photo of the ‘dog. My hot dog was a bit overloaded, to say the least. I guess that’s a good thing, however I’m not a fan of having to dislocate my jaw in order to eat something. I picked the pickle, cucumbers, and tomatoes off and ate them separately in order to eat the hot dog. No big deal really, I suppose it could have been worse with the hot dog lacking in toppings. The hot dog itself was quite delicious as my buddy Dan B. could tell you, so I won’t elaborate. The fries were good and crispy and not overly salted, but between them and the hot dog, I was still hungry afterward. Nonetheless, I ate every crumb and disposed of my trash. Usually I only get a hot dog and fries when I stop in here, but I’ve also had their mini chicken tacos, which remind me of similar ones you can buy in your grocer’s freezer. But, they’re a bit cheaper so that’s a-okay in my book. It gets the job done. As I left, I turned around to say thanks and the gentleman waved and said«No, thank YOU! Have a great weekend!» All of the employees that work here are extremely friendly, and not once have I been given a ‘tude. You gotta admire that. Definitely give this place a chance if you’re looking for a good hot dog/beef/burger joint and don’t feel like dealing with the tourists that swamp Portillo’s from open ’til close.

The most below average hotdog joint in the area. My husband and I were forced to eat at this place once a week for about two months since it was the closest option near a class we were attending. We tried just about everything on thier menu, and were underwhelmed time and time again. I guess I wouldn’t be as disenchanted, but they overcharge you for what you’re getting. For example, they charge around $ 5 for cheese curds, and you only get about 8 of them. When I asked where the rest of our order was, they said you get 4 oz. This place seriously nickel and dimes you for everything. Want a refill on your soda? That will cost you too — $.54. My advice to you(if you have the time) — drive to Portillos where you pay the same, but get way better quality food, or check out Smoke House in Wheaton.
