I have to say, I keep coming back for the food regardless of the not so great service… The lady that runs the place«Kay» is a little controlling and can get a little nasty at times. My husband and I were eating lunch one day with our toddler daughter at a crammed little table in front of a window, blinded by the sunlight. It was a table with enough room for 2, and that is even a stretch… We saw a bigger table for 4 open up and got up to move over to it. Kay came up the stairs and asked what we were doing, telling us that she had people for that table already and that we had to stay put. We were a little taken aback because we didnt see anyone waiting for a table… a couple minutes later after we retreated back she sat a couple at the 4 seater. 2 people! We were shocked, and it wasnt just because of who she preferred sit there but the way she went about it. She basically scolded us for trying to move over. It was very odd. There were 3 of us afterall. Another time, I took my mother there for lunch and she asked for a cup with ice for her beverage and she was told she would be charged extra. Now, Im not sure how much a cup costs these days, but its not like the food is dirt cheap. She couldn’t give an old lady a cup of ice!!! They nickel and dime everything. Another time we were yelled at by her for trying to go out the main entryway during the fall. Apparently it is only open in the summer. However there was no sign indicating it was closed. My husband has since refused to go back because of Kay, I get take out only now, because i love the sippin soups so much. I think its better when I can enjoy the delicious food in the comfort of my own home.

I stopped by to support the Moeckel Pond fundraiser and discovered a friendly, homey spot with lots of cute signs and ornamentation for sale. The French fries and the creamy vegetable and sausage soup were excellent! I’ll be back.

I really like it here! The food is always good and I love the atmosphere. I enjoy looking at all the little gifts in the shop while I wait for my food. The only reason I did not give it all 5 stars is because the whole ordering process was confusing and nobody explained it to me so I ended up waiting for 15 minutes while other people passed by. I just wish that the girl at the counter explained the process to me instead of allowing me to stand there for a while confused.

The thanksgiving sandwich is awesome! Finally, somewhere that serves fresh turkey on their sandwich instead of cold cuts!!! They said it is made fresh daily and I don’t doubt it, it was great!

I don’t generally give five stars unless a place is a truly memorable dining experience — which generally means a «destination» restaurant, a place you’d go out of your way to visit. No one is ever going to think The Kitchen is a «fine dining» establishment; there are no linen tablecloths, no fine china, and no wine list. And you’re not going to be leaving here with your wallet a couple of hundred dollars lighter, either. But you SHOULD go out of your way to pay a visit. This is basically diner fare, if you simply go by the menu on the chalkboard. Eggs and pancakes for breakfast, sandwiches and burgers and fries for lunch, and no dinner service — unless you look at the«specials» menu for Thursday and Friday evenings, and get your first clue that there’s something different here. Like this past week, when Thursday’s dinner special was a flame broiled tequila lime chicken breast, followed on Friday with veal Marsala and a perfect risotto. Here’s the thing: the«diner cook» here is Jon, a Johnson & Wales trained chef, who(with his wife Kay, usually found behind the counter at the register) owns the place and consistently(and I mean ALWAYS) produces food way above what you’d expect to get at this sort of establishment. I could go on and on about the food — we’ve been regulars since moving to the area a few months ago — but there’s no point; just get yourself over there as soon as you can and see for yourself.

It kills me to give a 3 star review. I have been coming here for three years. Generally the food is good, but I have seen a decline in service over the last few months. We asked for the bread to be separated from the burger patty, they added it on anyway and when the counter help saw the ticket took it off the petty which was ready covered in grease. Pickles were not added to the take out bag. These are little things that I can live with. What really gets me is that my food was on the shelf from the kitchen when I arrived, yet it took almost 15 minutes to get it. Yes it was at lunch time, but they placed the grilled cheese as an in house item and this threw everything off. I hope they improve as I have enjoyed the food so far. Maybe it was the new system, hope they smooth things out.

I’ve driven by this adorable location countless times while growing up in the area but have somehow made the mistake of not ever visiting until recently. I was simply blown away. This is the kind of place you’d consider a «discovery» — it has a charm to it that seems untouched and untainted by the modern world. Awesome little gift shop selling lots of local art, jewelry and more, and the food was fantastic — really wasn’t expecting it to be so delicious. The meatloaf sandwich was insane. I will absolutely be back on the regular and I’m kicking myself for not having visited sooner.

We found this place on Unilocal when we trying to find a place for sandwiches at lunch. It’s a funny little place in a quaint country store. It’s filled with those corny quote signs you’d find in your grandmothers home. And the tables tightly fill a room you can sit and eat in once you order your food. We were pleased with our sandwiches. I got the grilled cheese and my boyfriend got the turkey dinner sandwich. We both got the clam chowder. The sandwich and soup was exactly what we wanted so se were pleased! The chips That come with sandwiches are cheap and not great. The service is über friendly! Happy Unilocal reviews directed me here because I never would have stumbled upon it otherwise.

Sorry but I can only give two stars even though the food that was served was tasty. My daughter and I took the short ride to The Windham Junction for breakfast based on reviews. So expectations were set high. It is a cozy little place, part convenient store. Order at the counter, grab one of the few available tables, and they bring your order out to you. Both of us being lovers of Eggs Benedict, we went with the special of Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict, what I know as Irish Eggs Benedict. About 10 minutes later we are served on paper plates with plastic utensils. That’s fine for such a small casual spot. The first issue was there was no side toast served. I assumed toast came with the meal, but there was none. I saw others around me served great looking toast. But not us. I was hoping for a server to swing by so I could just ask, but never got a chance. Issue number two was one of the poached eggs was over cooked with a hard yoke. Finally, issue #3 was the lack of English muffins as the base for the corned beef hash, eggs, and hollandaise sauce. These are an integral part to any version of Eggs Benedict. But there were none. All we had was a pile of hash with eggs and sauce. No toast or English to sop up the yoke from the one perfect egg. What a shame because the hash tasted awesome, maybe the best I’ve ever had. It tasted home made fresh. The hollandaise was done right, and the home fries were tasty as well. I’m not sure I’ll return.

It’s all about the soup! Two offerings a day with all your classics like French Onion, clam chowder, and split pea and ham to more creative ones like chicken tandorri, pumpkin nutmeg and avocado silk. The best soup place I’ve ever been to and it’s all home made. The location is great as it sits right along the Windham Rail Trail. They are open every day but Monday and stay open until 8 on Thursday and Friday with dinner specials. Everything is home made and cooked buy the owners. The breakfast and lunch menu is a good size with much to choose from. They have indoor and outdoor seating for the nice weather. It’s family owned and the staff is great. It’s also an old time country store with tons of knick knacks and keepsakes to hunt around for. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish, as the daily specials rotate so often, there’s always something new. The Orange Leafy salad and meatloaf sandwich are favorites from the everyday menu. Locally brewed Squamscot sodas are available along with Richardson’s ice cream and maps of the rail trail itself. It’s really just a great, family owned business with quality food and service. That’s hard to find and it’s a business all the locals are happy to help succeed. The only thing they could have is a few more vegetarian options besides a salad and a veggie wrap.

I looooove this place! Really, I almost want to say it again, that’s how much I love this place. The first time I wandered in I was completely ignorant wondering, Do I order here? Should I find my own table? Is there a waitress? Why are all the people staring at me??? I walked through the dining room(i swear the locals were chuckling under there breath) and wandered back out into the entryway/counter area where a very friendly woman gave me a quick run down on how to get things done — you order at the counter and they bring your food over to the table of your choice — then she rang a slightly obnoxious bell and shouted«Newbies in the house» after which everyone gave a surprisingly enthusiatic cheer… slightly embarrassing, yet very amusing. Now the person who set this place up should win a prize for marketing because where you sit to eat everything, literally everything, is for sale! That pretty vase in the corner? Yup! That adorable stuffed monkey? Yup! Board games, candy, jewelry… the list goes on. Some(most) of the items are over priced, but even still I managed to leave with a couple of trinkets and had a good time«window shopping» while I waited for my food and while I ate(my grandmother would be so proud!). The tables are small and closely packed(dancing on the line of of cozy and cramped) and I would be a little nervous to see the inside of this place on a busy Sunday morning. When the weather is warm there is also outdoor seating. The food here is so ridiculously good! Fluffy pancakes, Portuguese sweet rolls, homemade pie, soups and desserts. It’s all homemade, it’s all fresh and it’s all awesome! My only complaint is that I don’t live closer… which is probably good because I would most likely eat all their pie(so good!) every day leaving none for anybody else.

Mouthwatering food, adorable ambiance, friendly service, and a nearby rail trail to bike off the calories — The Kitchen at Windham Junction has it all. This welcoming old post office-turned-café has you at Du Jour. Innovative specials, commuter-cup-friendly Sippin’ Soups change daily. We went for a weekday lunch and had the outstanding Maple Roasted Parsnip bisque that was good ’til the last creamy drop. Unable to choose easily among the array of both unique and dependable sandwich stylings, we ordered the Grilled Reuben with corned beef, kraut, swiss and a damned fab dressing, as well as the Chix Salad with cranberries and almonds on toasted Wheatberry bread(with an equally fab dressing) and we swapped halves. Outrageously good, perfectly balanced takes on these hearty traditions. Sandwiches came with chips and pickle spear. Fresh, local ingredients abound. Drink selection includes NH-based soda manufacturer and other area faves. The food was impressive enough, but the atmosphere puts The Kitchen over the top. Cannot say enough about this place, and look forward to standing in the famous breakfast lines. A terrific lunch experience hidden in the winding backroads of old Windham NH.
