This place is awesome! Best Mexican food in Northern VA. The service was great too. Came in for lunch and dat right away. Everything is made fresh, but there’s practically no wait. I highly recommend the guacamole. Deyanira was fantastic! Thanks so much for a great experience!

Authentic Mexican food… everything was amazing — from the chips and salsa to the tacos de carnitas.

This place was great! It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but don’t let that stop you. Everything we ate was really good! We got 2 dinners, an appetizer and a margarita for $ 34. When I’m back in the area, I’ll be back.

Great, authentic Mexican food at great prices. My new favorite restaurant. And the best part is 5 star food at 1 price tag prices!!! Yummy margaritas and beers for $ 2.00 on Thursdays!!! You have to try this place!!!

Chips were delicious. Choriqueso was out of this world. My husband loved his fajita burrito. Unfortunately my carnitas tasted off, so much so that I wouldn’t eat it. Maybe it was old, maybe freezer burned, maybe the spices just didn’t agree with my palate. The staff was very nice, tried to find me something else to eat, and didn’t charge us for it. Everything else was delicious so we will definitely give it another try.

Best authentic Mexican food in Winchester hands down. If you are bored with the usual Tex Mex food in town, you must try this place! Not sure what to order, no worries! Tell the server what you like or are craving and they will be happy to suggest something from the menu. Probably one of the best kept secrets in Winchester.

I really wanted to love this food because Winchester needs a good Mexican restaurant. But it was so so. My margarita was amazing. The quacamole was fresh and fantastic. My nachos were not so good. They avoided the pitfall of using ‘the wrong cheese’ by having no cheese, but they were warm. My fajitas tasted bland(maybe because I asked for no onions). So I might have created that myself. What I did not create was the fact they came out long before the tortillas were ready(tortillas that were spongey). I’ll give it a second chance, but just one!

I’d give it 5 stars were it not for the service. Totally lacking. The food is great, albeit a bit on the pricey side. After living in Houston for several years, I became borderline obsessed with tortas, and they are hard to come by on your typical Mexican restaurant menu. Taqueria el Barrio has them, and they’re delicious. Tacos are great too. Salsa is perfect. But the service. My god, the service. Just don’t go if you’re in a hurry or hungry. You’ll wait a while.

Had a late lunch on Saturday(8⁄22). Tacos pastor and birria were very good. Chips and salsa were great. Sat at the bar. Nice server.

Such beautiful food. We got the 2 tacos(lengua, birria) and the carnitas en salsa verde. So amazing. The meat was cooked so nicely. Roasted with a rich deep flavor and the salsa verde was definitely homemade as are the corn tortillas. Rice and beans also are made there and tasted wonderful. Service was attentive(but gave perfect space) and friendly — really liked our waitress. They serve beer and wine and a special drink with tequila and lime and orange juice. They also have a small outdoor area in the front to sit outside. Will be back for sure! By far the best Mexican outside of the best DC area places!

Very good! Saw the reviews on Unilocal and since I was staying in Winchester overnight, I figured I would go. The shopping center is run down and I hesitated going in by myself on a Thurs. night it I glad I did. I got 3 tacos– 1 chicken, 1 asada, and 1 marinated beef. All very good. Asked for hot sauce and was brought a red and green, both very good but the red is not for the feint of heart. Yummmm. Small interior and it was only me and 1 other couple at 5:30 on a Thurs.

Hands down the BEST(read, most authentic) Mexican food on the eastern seaboard. Hole-in-the-wall type place… and that’s where it’s at! delicious soft tacos. Haven’t tried the menudo but looking forward to it.

Excellent food. Ate here today driving through based on Unilocal reviews which were spot on. We’ve lived in Monterrey Mexico and have some experience with Mexican food. If you are a gringo, try it! Recommend the carnitas. Don’t be put off by modest frontage. Go in.

Wow! It may not look like much from the outside but the fresh, authentic Mexican food makes up for that. It was delicious and the guacamole was the best I have ever eaten. I am from Texas & know homemade Mexican food when It is served. The waitress made some great menu suggestions and even brought us a sample of the pulled beef made in house. Warning– the super burrito is REALLY big but tasty & has a great sauce. The pork is fall apart tender, paired with hot flour tortillas and fresh cilantro it made for an authentically great meal. Our waitress was friendly and provided great service. The food takes a bit longer to be served but that is because it is all being freshly made when you order it. So don’t be in a rush… this is worth the wait.

It is always a pleasure to find an authentic Mexican restaurant instead of an Americanized«Texmex» joint. This place is about as authentic as you can get. Food takes time to get to your table because it is prepared fresh after ordered. It is so worth the wait. Loved the tacos(several varieties) and the gorditas. We will be back for more.

So Cal girl stuck on the east coast means I am always looking for an authentic taco joint. Street tacos galore here! My husband and I had the carne asada and carnitas tacos. Served with a lime, topped with chopped cilantro and onions and accompanied with a choice of green or red salsa. All was delicious. The guacamole was spot on. Service was friendly and attentive. You should go. You won’t be disappointed.

The food was good for our family and everyone was able to find something they wanted. The torta wasn’t as authentic as I expected, given the setting, and was served on a packaged roll. The burritos were large and good. The shredded beef is delicious. The service leaves a bit to be desired, but our waitress, who was the only waitress serving the entire restaurant, was courteous but less attentive than we would have liked. While I will try other places next time I’m back in Winchester, I could also see us trying el barrio again!

Love that this place is authentic. They have menudo and lengua on the menu – but they didn’t have menudo tonight. They had red and green salsas, and a spicy red if you request. The tacos were good, but everything could’ve used a little more salt. Unfortunately our experience did include a bug in the water and a cockroach on the wall in the hallway.

Have to say I’m a bit shocked this place carries some high reviews. First off our greeter spoke no English, turned her back on us and went off to find someone who spoke little English to seat us. Both my son(4) and I had their tacos. He had the tacos off the children’s menu and I had the lunch special. There isn’t any description of their tacos so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but you can’t order flour tortillas so that isn’t an option. Their tacos are in soft corn tortillas and smothered in more cilantro than I’ve ever seen on any dish I’ve ordered… anywhere…in MYLIFE. No joke folks… there’s a mini herb garden on your plate. :/There’s also a generous helping of raw, thick chunked, onion. On the tacos from the kids’ menu too. Can I get a show of hands from all the parents with children who chow down on cilantro and raw onion? Yeah… good luck with that. So, I spent a good deal of time trying to pick out the chopped cilantro(my son referred to as «leaves») and onion from his meal AND mine. The price for the meals was great, but the portions totally reflected their«deal.» I had less rice and beans on my plate than my son had on his… which was sparing to say the least. I also ordered a child’s sprite; apparently that doesn’t come with the kids meal. No big deal, other than the cost for the drink was more than $ 2. So staff was friendly but inattentive. It was cold, dimly lit, and not the cleanest of places. I wouldn’t return if you paid for my meal.
