Dairy Corner

Usually not a huge soft serve type of person, but SHEESH (all caps intended), the first taste of that raspberry-​vanilla was unforgettable. And just to confirm, today was my second time, except with the addition of a waffle cone, and still… It was delectable.

I always pass by and see a line and today we decided to stop by. Now I see why everyone goes here. The ice cream is really good and is sooo much. I got a medium chocolate and vanilla swirl as I couldn’t finish not even half. My husband got a raspberry and vanilla in a small and he finished his. Overall you should stop here for some ice cream.

I grew up going to this ice cream joint and it was nostalgic coming back here. the menu hasn’t changed much and I got my usual vanilla-​raspberry ice cream on a waffle cone. It tastes the same as it did 15 years ago. the softness of the ice cream is what I like about it the most. the two flavors go ever so well together. if you ever stop by Winchester make sure to check this place out!

After a long drive my wife and I were looking forward to a warm hot fudge sundae. I arrived at Dairy Corner at 8:35p and it was closed. Friday night, hotels are packed and many cars were driving up to Dairy Corner just like me. There hours stated they close at 10p. I guess they don’t need the business.

Delicious ice cream! A hometown staple! The banana chocolate swirl is my absolute favorite. But really anything you chose will be great.

Great ice cream! Very reasonably priced and large portions.
The large banana split could feed a whole family. We loved the soft served ice cream options. Raspberry and banana were amazing. My dad got banana chocolate twist and said that was great.
On a nice summer day this is a perfect place to get a late night ice cream and sit out on a picnic bench. Also loved the old time feel.

Amazing ice cream found here! My husband, who seems to be an expert on all things ice cream, was so happy to find a Dairy Queen when we first moved to Winchester. We would keep driving by the Dairy Corner to get to this said DQ and I would suggest to the hubby that we should try this ma and pa ice cream place.
We finally did and my family fell in love with the tasty, fresh ice cream available in generous portions. :) We wish they were open all year!

Nobody when you’re driving through Winchester, Virginia on 81, just pull off this exit and stop at the Dairy Corner. They keep the outside of the building in it’s original pristine condition with neon and all, and inside, the same quality soft-​serve that so many have enjoyed over the years.
You cannot go wrong with any flavor you order, from Vanilla or Chocolate to Black Raspberry or Dream-​sickle (They always have basic Choc — Vanilla and usually two special feature flavors). Ask them to combo it and they will do that too. Depending on which machine the two flavors are coming out of they can swirl but it doesn’t matter, combo works for me, have a little of two different flavors.
They even hire great high school staff in the summer, nicest kids you’ll find in the service industry today. Smiles, know how to count change and keep the place clean too. My advice is to stick around to finish your order because you may want a second to take on the road. :)

I was craving ice cream and we were out driving in Winchester hoping to see some turning leaves so my husband suggested stopping here. They had Salted Caramel soft serve! It was delicious and the cone was huge! We ordered mediums and could have easily done with a small. If they hadn’t had the salted caramel I’d have loved to try the raspberry/​vanilla swirl. They have a bunch of picnic tables out that would have been fun to sit at if it hadn’t rained and made the tables all wet. Must come back another day when we can bring the kids and sit at the tables.

This is one of my favorite places to takes my kids during the summer.
Their prices are great and their custard is good. I love their flavor swirls. The raspberry and vanilla is my favorite. I drive up from Stephens City and pass more than half a dozen frozen custard and ice cream places just to go here.
They are always busy but the service is EXCELLENT! If you haven’t been here before, it is worth the stop.

Stopped here while visiting Winchester, VA. Had a vanilla milkshake and was a disappointed in the flavor. For such a long line to order, I was expecting the vanilla to have more vanilla bean. Instead it was bland. At a minimum I was expecting the milk to at least taste like if came fresh from one of the local farms. On a side note, they offer flavors of the week — this week was coffee. Prices were reasonable.

The sign for Dairy Corner says it’s been around since 1957. It should get a landmark sign from the Frederick County Historical Society, because it’s a draw. Seriously. My wife and I have lived in Winchester for the past few years and I can’t recall a time it hasn’t been packed.
In any case, we stopped there yesterday because we wanted ice cream. I got a butterscotch malt (and those are hard enough to find anywhere), while my wife got a chocolate malt. Hands down — probably the best malts I’ve had in a while. Definitely going again. And again. And again. You get the idea.

Awesome sushi, veggie fried rice, seaweed salad, and house salad. Great craft beer too! Our whole family enjoyed it! A definite stop in Winchester.

I’ve heard good things about this place, so I finally broke down and went. Delicious soft serve ice cream that I haven’t tasted since I was a kid. Defiantly recommend this place to anyone considering stopping. They have a very extensive menu as well… I just kept it simple with a vanilla cone covered in rainbow sprinkles…

Frozen custard is basically ice cream– soft ice cream with the volume turned up. It’s your in your tummy and this place usually has a line when it’s hot or after dinner time. The wait is never long usually and if you aren’t satisfied you ordered wrong. Go there now and expect a large serving that you will probably think you can’t eat but then you will.

BANANA!!! Been here once so far and the banana alone is worth 5 stars. I love banana ice cream and so many times have been let down by fake tasting banana flavoring. It can taste so artificial but not this. This is perfection. I’m going to try raspberry next time but the banana may be my holy grail.

Like every girl who grew up in the nineties, my favorite movie was «Now and Then.» It wasn’t because Devon Sawa was buck naked in the movie either… it was because the movie evoked everything special about being a coming-​of-​age All-​American girl living in the rural south during the early seventies… an experience that sadly was missed out by both my parents and I.
Until now…
Flashback to this past Sunday when I was driving down Route 7 in rural Winchester with my windows down, my best friend in the front seat, and the sunlight blasting my left arm with UV rays. It was a glorious day to be in ‘Murrica. Out of the corner of my eye, I peeked a rundown shack selling soft-​serve ice cream. I immediately make a right turn, illegally park on a side lot, and am transported to the 1957.
This shack keeps things simple: soft serve ice cream in a cone or cup, milkshakes, and sundaes only. There are no dipped cones or matcha coconut lychee swirls here. Just good olé’ vanilla, chocolate, banana and raspberry. I purchased a banana cone with chocolate sprinkles while my friend indulged in a vanilla sundae with caramel. They have a few bright red picnic tables so you can sit out and enjoy the sunshine which is exactly what we did.
No fuss, no muss (except when my cone started dripping down the side but that’s my fault). If life could only be this simple and sweet!

They serve frozen confections, and they do it well. Good treat on a hot afternoon. The amount of ice cream that they give you is pretty amazing. Good luck trying to keep your hands clean while eating that (I managed to, though).
