This old house was pretty cool. They turned the living room into a stage and have shows all the time. $ 3 cover. They also do bike and canoe rentals. I think they rent other stuff too but we just came for drinks. It was kind of awkward at first because the guy there just ignored us and we weren’t sure what to do there. This house was pretty small so I’m sure he saw us. Weird. We got a few beers which were really cheap. He said the prices go up when the shows start tho. They had a little patio area where we could hang out. Overall it’s something different and a nice place to relax. The prices for rentals didn’t seem bad at all either. They have free wifi too. You just have to ask him about the wifi code so you can talk about your timeline! Ha! Thanks drake.

I think working of Friday should be illegal! That being said the wife and I decided to make the most of our Friday by doing something adventurous. I wanted to take her out on a date to try something new. We both love water activities so I found a place to rent kayaks downtown. Ted’s by the river was recommended by a few friends. This is an old local favorite for live music and canoe/kayak rentals. It also functions as a general store and museum filled with all sorts of unknown local history. I called the number listed online and the gentleman told me rentals were available at anytime just to call thirty minutes ahead. Rental was $ 10 per hour with a minimum of two hours which is very reasonable considering the high rates for rentals around town. Rental service is basically run on the honor system. All you do is sign a waiver and the owner hands you a life jacket and shows you where the kayaks are stored. The one downside is the additional manual labor. The dock is about 800ft from the business so you have to hoist the kayak onto a cart with wheels to roll it down to the dock at dram tree park. However the special kayak launch pad is a wonderful perk to the location. Our kayak adventure was delightful. Pro tip: go early or when it’s overcast to avoid the heat and call ahead. We kayaked upstream toward downtown wilmington. I am local so I have seen all the sites many times but never from the perspective of a small kayak. The best part was that it was high tide and we were able to paddle around the battleship. Check out the pics posted, the view was breath taking.
