What was once a decent family-run restaurant has sadly gone south. After a couple of months trying other places, we returned to give it one more try. Mistake. The house fried rice wasn’t fried at all. It was just tepid white rice with a few chunks of meat and about six peas. The General Tso’s was a mix of freshly cooked chicken and older, cold and hard chicken pieces. The sauce wasn’t spicy, and there were three anemic pieces of broccoli for a veggie. The sweet and sauce chicken was hot and well-cooked, though. Overall, a big disappointment and the end of our business. Anybody know of a good asian restaurant in the area?

I love Chinese and Japanese food but this was just not very impressed by this. I got the General Tso’s with fried rice. It looked like a school lunch. The rice was yellow and had cubed onions and what looked like carrots but I couldn’t really tell. The chicken was definitely frozen. The frozen General Tso’s chicken from Trader Joes is better. There’s no spice, the sauce was more like orange chicken. I would have traded it out for Teriyaki Chicken or Hibachi, but nobody there spoke English so I didn’t feel that she would even understand. It was eatable, but that’s about it.

It probably is just a Chinese restaurant disguised as a Japanese one but as an average American, I don’t care. I do, however, care about the taste of the food. The steak hibachi is muy excellente. So arrigato to the Chinese menu they have and bonjourno to the hibachi grilled items. The food is right at the point of perfect salt, a dash more and it would be too much. Pretty fast service every time I’ve been. Gyozas and edamame are good too.

Ugh. Just really really bad sums it up. My companion and I looked over the menu, noticing that the hibachi«filet mignon» was less than $ 1 more than if we ordered the ribeye hibachi. We ordered two hibachi«filet mignon» entrees(you’ll understand why quotations are necessary shortly) and a sushi roll. The food came out in 15’ish minutes and we had to go pick it up from the counter. The meat was NOT filet mignon… isn’t it illegal to call old, grey, tough flank steak(at best, i’m guessing) filet mignon? However, it wouldn’t have irked me so much if the meat had been seasoned. It was so bland and tasteless. The julianne zucchini and onion were limp and not fresh. The rice was waxy as if it had been soaked in butter and left at room temperature. The sushi roll came out ANOTHER15 minutes later. We had to wait for it after choosing not to eat anymore of the entrée. We took one look at it, and decided to throw it away with most of our entrees. It was disgustingly covered in spicy mayo, at least a tablespoon per piece. The girl at the counter could see our distaste for the food and didn’t say a thing, nor did she say thank you for the tip we put on the credit card as we left the restaurant. It’s a shame we spent $ 30 here when we could have gotten a better meal from a fast food joint. Do not go here, it’s a complete waste of time and money. Ashai Ting or Hibachi Bistro is better in the sense of hibachi. The Chinese may be better than the hibachi here, but I’m not going to give it a chance after this experience.

Yet another place that advertises«Japanese» in order to squeeze out another couple of dollars vs. the«Chinese» price, and giving you nothing for those two extra bucks. NOTHING Japanese about this place, from the employees, the type of food and the quality, ALL of which are sub par. If there was a really good Japanese place in town, you could really compare. Had the chicken hibachi and felt there was something wrong with it as soon as I took the first bite. Either old meat, cheap parts of the meat, or something wasn’t right… Nothing really to like here.

I’ve only ordered one thing from this place, and it was take-out, but I must say that the Rainbow Roll is nummers(this is a good thing).

We were traveling through town and stopped in for lunch. We really enjoyed it! My wife and I split Hibachi Chicken and a Spicy Tuna roll(8 pieces). We really enjoyed it and thought it was better, and cheaper than other similar places. The flavors were great, and not too strong(or salty) and the vegetables were cooked really well too. My wife never eats onions, but these were so good that she was taking them down with the chicken and rice. The sushi was also great. Made to order… fresh…really good! We spent $ 11 for lunch(Hibachi Chicken and sushi, 2 waters) and it was plenty for both of us! We wish we actually lived in Wilmington so we could come back.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Hubby and I stopped in today for a late lunch and I did not expect anything that could be considered comparable to places such as Hiro or Ichiban Japanese Steakhouse, but it definitely compared. We requested an order of Crab Rangoons and it sounds so silly but I have to try them most everywhere I go and it was the shape that really made these ones stand out. They almost looked as though the intention was to shape them into little crabs by folding first into a triangle(as most are served) and then folding in each corner just slightly. The folds allowed there to be more filling which a lot of rangoons are lacking. This also helped prevent the loss of filling out one side as happens so often with the ones folded into a simple triangle. But enough with my Rangoon Rant! I ordered the hibachi chicken and hubby had the hibachi steak. Both were much higher quality meats than I would have anticipated for an express restaurant and the seasoning and teriyaki sauce were both phenomenal! Now, it wasn’t an entire hibachi meal as served at the high scale hibachis. There was minimal veggies and no shrimp added to the meal(unless a shrimp combination was ordered). The main course of meat was served tossed with thinly sliced onion and zucchini with a little broccoli in the sauce with a side of rice. The rice had great flavor. I did get the impression that the sticky rice used for their sushi was the same served with our meals, but just with some additional flavor and a thin sauce. Also, on a bar area next to their counter sits dispensers of white sauce(similar to Hiro’s shrimp sauce but not quite as good) and a ginger sauce. Service was fast and the place was very clean. Our total bill for the two meals(very sizable), rangoons, and two sweet teas came in at $ 21 and change. No coupons, regular menu price. I can definitely say that if hubby’s steak hibachi was that tender and flavorful, I can’t wait to go back and try their Filet Mignon hibachi for half the price of Hiro!
