I was really excited for this to open so perhaps my expectations were a little too high. They are affiliated with La Fia, which has never let me down. I’m also guessing that they are still working out their kinks since they only opened about a week or two ago. Then again, maybe I’m not focusing on the right stuff and should perhaps just buy a donut or loaf of bread next time. In any event, as a downtown worker that eats outside the office 4⁄5 times a week it was a disappointment. First, the menu is printed on this tiny piece of paper all the way at the register. You sort of become bottle necked waiting in line to get to the register and can only really see the menu when you have to order. There is basically no flow to the lay out. I was anticipating lots of delicious bread and bakery items, but alas, a couple of donuts and a few cannoli’s, a wall of a few items of bread that I could barely see due to the odd layout. The only thing I could really see were day old bread items for sale for $ 3.00 and I almost bought them because it was basically the only thing I could actually view unobstructed. I ordered soup, split pea for $ 7.00 my guest ordered the club sandwich, $ 7.50. After about 20 minutes(understaffed for lunch time rush) my soup arrived, a small cup, which also happened to be cold. My date had the turkey club which he didn’t complain about, but as the guest before us ordered the salmon sandwich, the strong taste of salmon permeated the turkey, as they must have used the same knife. The bread was crusty. The sandwich was ok, basic lunch meat with some herbed mayo and flaccid bacon. I wasn’t impressed. I left sad. $ 18.00 lunch, which included a small tiny soup, a sandwich and two drinks. Oh and a stale nub of bread came with the soup, it was basically two inches of a heel of a well done baguette. As we walked out and could smell the delicious scents coming from Chelsea Tavern, I really regretted my lunch decision. I’m going to give them another 6 months then try again.

I just picked up a loaf of their rosemary olive oil bread — it was perfect. Perfect crumb, perfect crust, just the right amount of savory herb-iness. Can’t wait to go back and try their pretzel rolls, bagels, baguettes — everything looked amazing. And just as I was leaving, they brought out a tray of tomato pie — will definitely be giving that a try. Love the location, perfect for picking up some breakfast treats before heading into the office or a delicious sandwich for lunch. Bread lovers rejoice — there’s a new bakery in town!

Market Street Bread + Bagel is finally open… and it was worth the wait! Since they’ve opened, I’ve purchased multiple loaves of bread(multigrain and white), which were delicious! No more grocery store bread. I will gladly spend the extra money(Note: I prefer to take my bread home unsliced, but they will slice it for you.) So far, the bread, bagels, cream filled donuts(yum!), brownies, and coffee have been delicious! Plus, the staff are really nice! Oh, and I just bought a dozen freshly made bagels(just off the cooling rack) for $ 10… I will have one happy kid when I get home! ** UPDATE: They now open at 8 a.m. Yay! To make my morning even better, I just realized they sell La Colombe coffee. My favorite! Oh, and I heard they should have their full menu in approx. a week and a half. Until then, they have a partial breakfast/lunch menu. The chicken salad sandwich and egg/cheese breakfast sandwich(on fresh bagel) were both delicious! PLEASESUPPORTTHISBUSINESS… it is worth keeping downtown!
