Birch Tree Lodge

Thought the place was fantastic. The woman at the front desk was pleasant and helpful. The room was a clean all over with a super cold fridge and flat screen TV. The hotel’s location is central in the area from all the good hiking spots. Will return next time I’m in the Lake Placid area.

I give this place 4 stars because it really hits the mark for an affordable no frills mountain lodge. We payed 80 bucks a night for a standard king room. It was clean, sported a new comfy mattress and a larger than average hotel fridge, had a nice flatscreen with standard cable, had a clean bathroom with good water pressure in the shower, and offered plenty of space for bulky winter/​ski luggage. The owner was very friendly and accommodating — flexible with his check-​in and check-​out times. The continental breakfast is your standard bagels, cereal, coffee, milk and orange juice — nothing impressive, but enough to fill the belly before you hit the slopes.
We chose to stay here because we were headed to Whiteface to ski for the weekend and didn’t want to waste money on a fancy hotel room… as we didn’t plan on spending much time there anyway.
Another nice aspect for visitors of Whiteface is that the hotel is much closer to the resort than anything in Lake Placid. It’s distance from the hustle and bustle of Lake Placid is nice to separate yourself from that touristy crowd. All in all — this will be our go-​to hotel from now on when we visit Whiteface/​Lake Placid.
