The last time we were here was July 2011 when it was the Clarion. Needless to say, we went out of our way to come back on our way to Washington, DC. The bed is pretty comfy and the waterslides are super fun. I think the little thing that pushed our stay over the edge was the fireflies flickering as we went from the indoor water park to our room. I just love summer in the midwest. The lady at the front desk was super friendly and the only reason i pulled myself from our conversation was that we arrived late and had to get to the water park before it closed. One of the life guards actually added to the fun for the kids.

What an awesome place! We just loved it. The water park area has two slides — both are great. The red one is super fast. The green one is a little slower. Both slides are covered and extend outside and then finish inside. There’s an attached restaurant, as well as a Maid Rite and Godfathers Pizza across the parking lot. There’s a quaint but fun miniature golf(watch for ticks!) area and really cool playground equipment for kids. This whole place is like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. It’s beautiful, relaxing, charming, and all around awesome. The pool area has a big section for swimming and off to the side is a whirlpool area. Then there’s an adult only hot tub and a playground pool for little ones. There’s a sub par arcade(needs skeeball and more play-type games), but it still has air hockey and a couple shooting games. Rooms are clean and sufficient for your needs. Tv and fridge and coffee maker. Microwave by registration desk. Free wifi in rooms and public computer by registration. If I’m ever in the area, I’m staying here!

The lobby is nice– I hadn’t been here in about 20 years, but I was impressed when I first walked in. It is obvious that the new owners are trying to give this place a facelift. I’d paid for the slightly more expensive«1 Queen, 1 Bunk Beds Suite». The hotel’s website says max occupancy for this room is 4 people, but then in the room description it lists that a rollaway bed is available. I triple-checked this, and asked about it when I called to make my reservation. The gal that took my reservation didn’t seem to think it would be a problem at all, except that the rollaway beds were first-come, first-served. We had 3 adults and two kids, and were in town for the U of I graduation(a VERY busy time for hotels in this area!). When we checked in, we were told that they would be happy to send a rollaway down to the room, but it might not fit… first bad sign. We got to our room and realized that there was NOWAY that the rollaway would fit. What I didn’t understand– and what I had not read in any reviews– is that this particular room style is a regular 2 bed room, that as been divided into 2 sections. The bunk bed area is divided from the rest of the room by a half wall. The room was decent, but seemed teeny due to the wall. My kids were thrilled with having«their own room». We solved our space issue by having the kids share a bunk, and having one adult take the other bunk. The room was definitely too small for a group our size– I agree that the max should be 4 people. The bathroom seemed to have been renovated much more recently than the room. It was clean and nice. The pool is really the appeal of this hotel. If you aren’t swimming, it is LOUD and HOT. If you are swimming, there are two big waterslides(tube slides, that go outside and back into the building), a hot tub, and a couple shallow pools with lots of toys and activities. The arcade is right off of the pool, and includes an air hockey table(yay!). The rest of the hotel seemed tired. The walls and the carpet looked ready for updating, and the hotel is loud.

We have been here several times and will do ably go again. It’s not a far drive for us. The water park isn’t huge but it’s nice. It’s entertaining for my youngest kid and my older one wasn’t bored. The rooms are clean. The hotel is decorated nice. The staff is friendly. The food at the restaurant isn’t very good. The location is close to the Amana colonies and not far from Iowa city.

The food is absolutely terrible! Don’t even waste your time eating here. McDonald’s would be better! And, sadly for the poor waitress, there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant.

I will give it 2 stars at this point, but this hotel has potential. We didn’t realize it when we booked our room, but the hotel is under renovation, and it’s tough to say what the quality will be like when it’s done. Our shower was pretty grimy on the bottom. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and some elbow grease would solve that. The faucets turned themselves somehow, and the shower always ended up too hot, so we had to keep adjusting the water temperature. We had clover mites on the AC unit and killed a large spider in the bathroom. The water park was ok. The mini golf course was very run down, but it appears that they were attempting to fix it. I’m not sure we will be back, but I hope they continue to fix it up because it could be a very nice hotel.

New owners, management, and face lift. Glad this place is back up and running, with the Wasserbahn waterpark in full operation. Good prices on rooms that are clean. There’s a restaurant and bar on site also… Will come here again when driving through Iowa.

This hotel has been recently updated and was more than I expected considering the reasonable price. It was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel stay included admission to the water park. My kids had a great time.
