We were there on an off night pretty late. The service was exceptional and the chef was amazing. They are great with kids. Food was amazing

Went there with the family and truly enjoyed it. A little over priced for what the menu offers. I would like to see more combinations to choose from. The waiters were excellent. They were quite busy, however the food and drinks were perfectly timed. The soup is great and we can’t wait to stop by again when we’re in the area.

My family went here for dinner on Saturday 5⁄28. They easily accommodated our family of 2 adults, 1 child in a high chair, and 2 infants in car seats. The service and food were both great. The menu items were appropriately priced. We had the spicy tuna roll, hibachi filet + chicken, and hibachi steak + lobster along with fried rice(which is an additional charge). We will definitely go here again on our next vacation to Williamsburg.

$ 2.50 extra to have your rice fried when you are already paying for a $ 25 hibachi meal. Not much flavor in the food either.

I’m surprised that this place only has 2.5 stars. We went with another family(4 adults and 5 kids together) and had a fantastic meal and experience. Our chef made it fun for everyone and the server accommodated even the pickiest eater. The food was delicious and we spent two enjoyable hours there.

Really just mediocre and quite expensive. The fried rice is really good and the steak too. Shrimp are little and bland. Veggies boring and uninteresting. Sushi took forever to get and then the order was wrong. Our habachi chef was okay. Honda… but didn’t engage the kids and was in and out quickly.

Kyoto was like any other Hibachi experience, and the food was about average, only a little more expensive for hibachi. The only issue we had was we ordered sushi as soon as we sat down, and it didn’t get there until the Hibachi Chef was plating our food! The fried rice was the worst fried rice I’ve ever had(it had zero veggies in it… just egg and a little bit of soy sauce) but everything else was average. Their Yum Yum Sauce was great, though. I will say that they have cool drinks. My husband and I split one(see pics) where it’s a big bowl of rum(very little) and mixer(a lot), but there’s a little alcohol-burning flame in the middle.

I have lived in Williamsburg for almost three years now and every time I drove by I said I wanted to try the place. Well I finally did, and I was not disappointed. I have tried other sushi places in town and have been let down. I sat at the sushi bar around 630 or 7, I can’t remember what day of the week it was, maybe Thursday, but there were not a lot of people there. I ordered the tuna sashimi, 2 tuna rolls and salmon roll. It sure was delicious. I am completely happy that I decided to try the place out. It’s not too expensive, it’s about average for their sushi prices. The service was good. Not really too much to say about that aspect. I recommend this place for sushi. I cannot speak for the hibachi side of the restaurant. Maybe one day I will venture to that side, but for now I am going to make this place my go to sushi spot. Check it out.

We sat at the sushi bar and did not order any Hibachi/Teppanyaki dishes. The sushi was fine — but not the best ever. Service was nice and ramen was a tasty addition. They do not make their own tamago and some of the rolls are overly sauced. Prices are fair for what you get. Service by Sarah was good. Place has changed owners(again?) and hopefully will improve. It is a LARGE restaurant with multiple dining areas. Or 10 year old gobbled up her shrimp tempura roll and 2 orders(4 pieces) of salmon nigiri. She loved it. Salmon was fresh and tasty, tuna was not great.

Typical Japanese joint, nothing special. Wasn’t too impressed with thE sushi but the hibachi was good. Large fried rice portions. Again, if you’re in the mood for hibachi it works but it’s nothing to special.

I’m really surprised by the negative reviews on here. This place is awesome. We’ve never been disappointed going here. I’ve never done the hibachi side. We always go to the sushi side. I’ve tried a variety of rolls. Their spicy tuna is my absolute favorite. This place is definitely my go to for sushi. I love in Newport News and have yet to find a place I like more so it’s worth the drive for me to go to Williamsburg. I will say that if I had to pick one thing that’s wrong the service can be slow but usually when I go in on a Saturday night they are pretty busy so I can forgive it. I just wouldn’t go in there if I was trying to make a movie time or something like that. You usually spend about an hour in there. And that’s just for an appetizer and sushi. But totally worth the wait!

This place was such a let down. I’m super saddened by it. The décor was pretty cool in the front but the chairs around the tables were kinda meh. The ginger salad was good. The miso soup was good. And everything else was just horrid. Typically I am used to this order: salad, soup, shrimp and veggies, and then meat or rice, or sometimes they’ll cook both at the same time. However what happened was rice, shrimp, meat, and then veggies at the end. Because the veggies were put on the grill so long they became tasteless mush. The shrimp was pretty burnt I would say. My chicken was pretty meh. The fried rice had almost no flavor. I wasn’t happy with the price tag for such awful food. The one in the Newport News city center is a much better Japanese steak house.

Steak was very lean and dry even cooked med rare. Chicken was dry and tough. Fried rice had a 2.50 upcharge and was very lacking in any flavor for the price. Speaking of no flavor, the soup comes to mind. The sushi I ordered was o. k and the noodles were good, saving this place from a one star review. For the price you could do much much better.

I’ve seen my fill of flaming onion volcanos, caught(or not) my share of spatula-launched shrimp, witnessed dozens of eggs flipped into chef’s hats, and groaned innumerable times at the tired«Japanese Coca Cola» references to soy sauce. I think the only thing that would impress me at a hibachi cookery at this point is if the chef cut off his pinky finger and served it butterflied with a helping of the ubiquitous yum-yum sauce. Now that’s entertainment… Based on previous reviews, I don’t think I missed anything new at the hibachi table. In fact, on the night I ate here, there wasn’t a single grill fired up. I was looking for sushi anyway, though the emptiness of the place should have served as a general warning. There were two others at the sushi bar. Counting myself, a whopping three patrons on a weekday night. The refrigerated sushi case was nearly empty — another red flag. I ordered Hamachi and Maguro and the sunimono. The sushi was very poorly cut and displayed — the fish looked as though it had been torn rather than sliced — and the rice was mediocre. The sunimono was an actual western salad consisting of iceberg lettuce and cucumbers, with a hint of vinegar and a few slices of fish atop. To be fair, the fish tasted OK. The young waitress that served me seemed almost embarrassed to be there — but she was quite attentive(she wasn’t very busy, after all). I overheard her explaining to the sushi«chef» what was supposed to go into a fellow patron’s roll. I think with a modicum of training she could surpass his skill level. Please don’t rate this establishment on their hibachi food or service based upon my review. Use the other reviews or make your own decision. But trust me, this is not the place you want to come to eat sushi!

We went for dinner after visiting Busch Gardens. After ordering we waited very long so one of us asked the manager(in 50’s) in the front why it took so long. He had a nasty attitude and said«if you don’t like it you can leave now» The waiter was fine and food was acceptable. But why would anyone go back again?

I’m between a 3 and a 4, but I’ll bump it to a 4. We were given dining certificates by our resort to go to a few choices, so we picked here as one of the dining options. The decoration outside is VERY elaborate. At first glance I might even think gimmicky, but when you look at the koi in the pond, and how heavy the front doors are, it’s impressive. We showed up for lunch around 2pm and were the only people there. We sat at the big hibachi area all by ourselves. I don’t expect much authenticity at these places, since I’ve never seen hibachi in Japan, and the last time we were at a benihana our chef’s name was Pedro. We ordered sushi and chicken from the hibachi. Our chef was really great. He spared us the gimmicky show and instead focused on cooking, while asking us about our trip, giving a history of the restaurant, and in all being a pleasant person. The chicken for what it was, tasted good. The sushi was okay, and I wish the piece of saba was bigger, but again, I never have high expectations at these places. Perhaps it’s because the bar was already set low, they went far above it in service and taste.

Food was delicious, but not the best we’ve ever had. We thought it was weird it was a $ 2.50 up charge for fried rice or noodles since it’s hibachi and fried rice is normally a given, but my friend got the noodles and I got the fried rice and we shared So it was perfect. They were able to accommodate gluten free preferences of our table mates and the server and cook had great personalities. Pepsi products and good cocktails, I got the Banzai and my friend got a rum & Pepsi. Yum yum sauce is our favorite! The hibachi table was a hit and we loved the experience and the sauce!

I was extremely hesitant based on the reviews but because it is Valentine’s Day and the busiest restaurant day of the year, well, we gave it a go. First, there was a sign on the door that said they were under new management and they’re not honoring coupons. I thought that might be a good sign about the sign(hehe — get it)…new management, better experience for me? They seemed to have a full house. Not overly crowded and no wait for the sushi bar. We opted to sit at the sushi bar vs the hibachi. To my surprise, you can still order hibachi food when you aren’t sitting at the hibachi… who woulda thunk!!! Of course it’s not the same experience without the flying shrimp and onion volcano but waaaaaay more low key with the same food. Anyway, we ordered two sushi rolls and some hibachi dinners. I know… Oink oink. We just did a lot of shopping, you know how demanding that is, right? Can I get a hell yeah? No? Ok. A spicy roll and a volcano roll. I picked them without looking at the menu. Sort of a Russian roulette type deal. They ended up being exactly the same, except one had avocado. No worries though — both were DELICIOUS. The hibachi was typical, fried rice, teriyaki steak, veg, yum yum sauce. I have a to go box sitting in the fridge for later because the sushi was damn good I couldn’t even think about finishing the hibachi plate. So. much. food. The best part was our server. She was great! Very friendly and kept the drinks filled.

Meh. It was awkward. I walked into the front door for lunch but no one was at the door. So I heard people in the back and went towards the voices. I was given a lunch menu — I ordered the maki bento box to go. So, the chef is there. But constantly sniffling. Constantly. While he’s making my food. I probably should’ve just walked out. The hostess said she didn’t have an adult size to-go cup for my soda. So she packed in a kiddie cup but charged me adult pricing. No bueno. I don’t know that I’ll return. I tried it once. It was meh. The owner/manager was very nice though. but sometimes just being nice doesn’t cut it. :(
