Cogan’s Deli & Sports Pub

My husband and I were in town for a few days and stumbled upon Cogan’s on our first night. The food was delicious and Laura and Danny the bartenders were great. The live music was great also! So glad we found this place!

My first impression of Cogans was entering the world of Cheers: where everybody knows your name. We were immediately greeted with live music, a very sweet and fun bartender named Crystal. There were televisions everywhere and it was easy to get the sport that you wanted to watch.
We were lucky enough to meet the owner, who took a shot with us. He’s a nice guy, very quiet, but he runs a good place.
For the food, it was good. I don’t think I’d necessarily go out of my way for it (considering it is a 2.5 hour trip… we were on a vacation), but it wasn’t anything to write home about. I recommend going for the music, the company, and the drinks.

Not good last night (friday). Chicken tenders — 6 $ for three? U r kidding. You will lose to pauls deli on value for price.

Had so much fun with the cool tall bartender Danny. My husband and I are visiting from Columbia SC and were treated like gold. Thank you, Cogan’s!!! Cheers!!!

This is a nice bar! I came when there was live music and it was nice. It’s a little crowded but it would’ve been okay if we got a good spot inside. We just want liaise to the patio and it was great! There are only a handful of tables but it was just enough for the crowd. Great environment.

Excellent service, outstanding sandwiches and great atmosphere! Stopped by with my daughters in tow for a quick bite and was impressed with the service and quality of the food. They also had an outstanding selection of bottled beers for the size of their establishment; however, they only had three different drafts on tap. Only complaint from the kids was that they skimped on the pickles… They love pickles!

My wife and I stayed a week down in Williamsburg, Because of a severe allergy to shrimp and seafood going out to dinner can be difficult! We found Cogans and could not be happier! We went there twice, first night Casie was bartending, Really nice, she even helped us find other places that we might be able to eat at, second time we went Danny (I think that was his name) was bartending. Again, really nice guy. The food was great. I would tell anybody that I know going down to visit to definitely check this place out!!!

Delicious sandwiches. Great service. Will be coming back. Had a doctors appointment in the area so we decided to try something new. I’d highly recommend the Cuban.

Delicious sandwich, high quality. Good atmosphere and the bartender is a lot of fun. Live music sometimes and great happy hour specials.

Amazing!!! We went after a ghost tour, got the potato skins and the Kelly. I swear best sandwich I have ever had. My favorite restaurant in Williamsburg and cannot wait to go back. Also, the staff had the best attitudes.

Great people. Good pub grub! If you like basic grub. It’s here. If you want high end go elsewhere It’s a good basics local pub and if lucky a decent band.

Don’t waste your time. First and last visit here. Sandwiches (Rueben) are small and lack substance. Coleslaw needs serious help… too heavy on celery seed, not seasoned well and very sour. Cobb salad lacked luster, dressings not home and neither is soup. It is bag salad and old. Place is not doing the business it could. If this place is owned by the same folks who own Cogan’s in Norfolk, my advice is to shut it down, or start over and manage your staff and the quality of the food and service. Other wise you are just losing money. Certainly lacks Cogan quality in total! Service is low end, no one greets you from behind the bar and we had to ask for service at a table.

Had chicken salad sandwich on croissant which I recommend and my husband had double decker and he said very good. The fries are awesome so get them immediately as sandwich doesn’t come with. Our kids had hot dogs which came with fries so of course I stole.

Before the new management took over, I was afraid to go in because it seemed to have a lot of unsavory-​looking people. But now the place looks well-​taken care of. I went there with my fiancée after talking with one of their chefs in public, and the food was good. My fiancée’s only complaint was that there was a bar, a to-​go counter, and the convenience store refrigerators all right next to each other. We went on a rainy day around 2pm, and the service was awesome. I’ll definitely be going back!

My wife and I go to the Deli once a month or so — they make darn good sandwiches — not a foot long like some places, but much more tasty and well crafted.
The have specials such as home made chili (mild) and large (but pricey) brownies (with icing)
The patrons on a Saturday afternoon include families, young and old — very casual and comfortable. Indoor and outdoor tables. I’ve walked past at night and seen live music and a young adult crowd.
The staff is friendly, but sometimes falls behind — each sandwich is being made to order. A 15 minute wait is not that uncommon. You can call ahead if you are in a big rush.
The proprietor is often on the premises, but lets the staff handle most customers.

Ok, not sure who is at fault on this but we went the restaurant this afternoon and it was closed. That does not
Match Unilocal which indicated the restaurant was open all afternoon and evening today. Recommend fixing the status.

I’ve been in this place 3 – 4 times at different hours of the day but am now pretty certain I wouldn’t go back. In fact, I’m kinda sorry I went in the 3^rd or 4^th time.
First, this is neither a Deli nor a Sports Pub. Sure, it has 5 TV’s in the bar area but with three tuned into «The Chew,» one on the Weather Channel and one on ESPN-​U there is zero ambiance for anyone interested in catching up on scores, etc. And a Deli? I could have missed it but I saw no cold cuts or other deli-​style items displayed and the menu was hardly «Deli-like»…but, I could have missed something. If you’re looking for an actual deli, try Route 58 in Virginia Beach. If you do I promise you’ll head back to Cogan’s armed with black spray paint to delete «Deli» from their sign.
An earlier writer noted that you shouldn’t expect good service unless you are a regular… he was right on. No greeting when I arrived, no one came by to visit while I ate my sandwich (while catching up on «The Chew» of course!) and no «thanks for coming in» as I left. And, consistent with the lack of service, the sign above the trash can kindly asks customers not to throw away the basket when clearing your own table. Trashed plastic sandwich baskets probably wouldn’t be a costly issue if there was any level of decent service.
I ordered one of the specials of the day. The bread was fresh and the meat was good but for $ 10 I would have anticipated a handful of Ruffles or something. Instead I received a lonely (but pretty tasty) pickle spear. Soft drink is extra and, as you can imagine, was self serve. Based on my experience I’m wondering if the ultimate goal is to allow guests to work the cash register one day… it doesn’t seem to be far off. Maybe the owner/​manager should consider looking up from his laptop long enough to say hello to someone other than a «regular.»
Hopefully the place does well enough with the «regulars» and on football Saturdays and Sundays to stay in business. We much prefer spending money with local owners/​operators but this one is coming off the list.

I came here late Friday evening craving some greasy fries and this place fulfilled my desire to the The cheese fries were loades with what looked to be your standard bagged shredded cheese and the fries were nicely fried and seasoned. I also ordered my Long Island Iced Tea, which was alright– a bit to limey for me though. They have a handful of beers on tap and bottled selections as well. This place is definitely a deli more than a pub as a pub in my eyes would serve a better selection and quality of alcohol.
That being said, this place is pretty neat. It’s clean, bright and there is a lot of seating. When I went the right side of the establishment was full of people eating sandwiches and just hanging out. Being overly cautios and distand as usual I decided to stay away from all the loudness and settled in a corner with my party. There was live music (blugrass/​celtic type music) playing which I actually enjoyed but it clashed with the old school music resonating on the other side of the «pub».
Service was kinda crappy intially and when I walked in to place my order the chick just stared at me and looked at another lady and asked if she could help me. Uh, okay. However after that our new waiter/​hostess/​cashier was pretty cool and made us feel comfortable by checking in on us every now and then.
Overall, I’m in no rush to come back because I’m not really big on deli’s and prefer a more homely environment, however I could have seen myself years ago coming to this place during my college years to study and just hang out. Nice location, mostly cool staff but I’m just not to sure about the theme going on here.

This was our first trip to Cogans and we’ll be back. We aren’t local but are moving back to the area soon and I’m sure it’ll be a regular spot.
Hubby and I both had build your own sandwiches, one kiddo had a hot dog, the other had a grilled cheese and we shared a basket of fries. It was happy hour so I had a beer. No complaints from anyone and the sandwiches were obviously fresh. Food came out quickly which was a plus, since we had kids with us.
Our server was taking care of the entire place and he couldn’t have been friendlier! It was obvious we were not local and had no idea how things worked in terms of ordering and he totally made us at ease.
Walk in, if you are eating in go sit down. If you are having to go, go to the counter and order it. We took the kids since it was early and they were totally fine there, it’s 21 and up after 10 I think, so my guess is that it’s more of a bar atmosphere at that time.

I love Cogans. I go there regularly for lunch and I also watch football there on Sundays. Despite it being a magnet for New England fans, it’s a great setup for Sunday Ticket and the Sunday crowd is usually a lot of fun. They have several games on simultaneously in the bar area.
The service is always outstanding and the food is higher quality than most places with similar prices.
