Was the first time here and have to say was impressed! Jason is a master chef and both he and his wife have done a fanatic job! Highly recommend this place! Going to say best sushi I have had in a long time!

Sort of like a little hole in the wall but wow is this place tasty! I ordered the crunchy roll, the crispy rice with spicy tuna and an order of spicy edamame. All three were really tasty, and you can tell it’s a little higher in quality than your average AYCE joints. My coworker ordered the spicy tuna soy paper roll and popcorn shrimp lunch special. The roll was really good, but the popcorn shrimp stole the show. Not quite sure what kind of sauce it’s in, but it’s delicious. Overall, it was so packed with flavor I would definitely be coming back. Don’t come here expecting a bunch of rolls packed with crab meat and cream cheese. The menu is somewhat simple but the flavor goes a looooong way.

We moved from Los Angeles, and me and my husband are huge sushi fans, so finding a place was priority. We tried several places In the whittier area and by far this place is the best The sushi is so fresh and delicious. Some of our favorites are the Japanese style ceviche and the yellowtail jalapeño, don’t leave without trying.

Excellent sushi and sashimi. The spartan décor makes it easy to focus on what’s important: The food. I’ve eaten sushi and sashimi in Little Tokyo, Japantown in SF, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and I will honestly say I was surprised and amazed by the quality of the seafood and the attention of the staff. The tempura was cooked perfectly, too. What a great find in one of the more quiet corners of L.A. county.

Great authentic sushi place and awesome chef. Ordered a simple cut roll, tasted great and fresh. The spicy tuna is a must order item, made from top grade tuna.

Drive by this place often but never went in. Last Sunday I finally stopped to try this place. I had the Kama(yellow tail collar) Dinner it was cooked PERFECTLY. I enjoyed the food so much I went back for dinner again this evening. This place is authentic and the service is fantastic. Clean and casual. There are now two sushi places in Whittier that I truly enjoy and this is one of them.

This place is great! We ordered edamame, miso soup, California Roll, Dakara Roll, Baked Crab Roll, Albacore Shrimp Tempura Roll and Rainbow Roll. All were great! We wish they had a larger selection but are very pleased with everything we tried.

It’s a little pricey at first glance, but you can tell by the taste that the price comes from the high quality of the food. The staff is really friendly and the chef exudes pride in his work that really shows up in the food. When I arrived it wasn’t busy, but soon after large groups started filing it and were treated like family. It’s a really welcoming atmosphere! I felt bad after reading they serve species of tuna that are very endangered, so I’m not sure I would want to go back and support that, but I really enjoyed the basic tuna and eel sushi I ordered.

I eat A LOT of sushi. This place is small-ish but lively with plenty of room for a few families. There is a little jazz music playing in the background and the customers seem to be enjoying themselves on a Friday night, and the atmosphere has a relaxed feel to it. FOODQUALITY: Outstanding! Fresh! I tried the sashimi platter, some rolls, and some nigiri. The yellowtail was some of the best I’ve had. The octopus was excellent, juicy and not too chewy. The sashimi slices were not huge – and that’s OK – but you could definitely taste the quality. Even a simple roll, like spicy salmon, was mouth-watering with a distinct Japanese flavor. SERVICE: Attentive and adequate, with a genuine feel to it. Everyone seems to love the sushi chef! The staff is hustling to help the customers or to cook. They can get pretty busy at times, so call ahead for To-Go orders. OVERALL: My 2nd time here and I LOVE this place already. It’s not a place with a giant menu of fusion rolls stuffed with imitation Krab, but rather a balanced menu with all of the good stuff – and they can probably make anything you can dream up. I saw one family gobbling up hand rolls with their kids and they kept ordering more. Way to go guys! Here’s to making my tummy VERY happy(and I am kind of picky).

I am not a fan of sushi but I came here with my brother and sister in law because they were visiting from Japan. Everything we got was pretty good. Even the children enjoyed the tempura and tofu. I loved was the spicy tuna on crispy rice, I can eat that everyday! However they only gave us 4 for $ 8…i don’t know i wish they had a bigger serving. My brother was a little upset they don’t have cream cheese rolls. Our bill came out to be a lot of money but every sushi place is expensive.

About as good as sushi gets in Whittier. When we don’t go the AYCE route we go to Dakara for reasonably priced, quality sushi. I have not had a bad experience here the 3 times I’ve been here and am glad that the dining is more tame than other places. Good place to go to relax for a really nice mom and pop feel and mom and pop quality service. I know some reviews have said that the prices are: expensive. I disagree. Quality is not cheap but this place is definitely NOT expensive… $ 40-$ 50 feeds me and my wife just fine.

So this is my 2nd time here. Wouldn’t expect such yummy & fresh sushi here. The restaurant is small, but staff is very friendly & give awesome recommendations! If you order anything from the specials menu you will not be disappointed! I love good food and go to many upscale(expensive) restaurants… I know my foods! Whittier needed a delicious consistently good sushi place that isn’t so commercial! I hope this place is here to stay! Ohh & the homemade cheesecake is pretty good, lacks a lil flavor on the top layer but yummy & again fresh! Must try: Albacore Shrimp Tempura Roll w/truffle oils… Even for a non tempura lover as myself, I would definitely get it again! And tell all my friends about it.

My husband and I Unilocaled for sushi because he was going to treat me just because I am an amazing wife. So, we decided to go here. The place is tiny and cute. The sushi was good too, not the best I’ve had but it was good. The price was reasonable, expect to spend about $ 50 on dinner for 2(including desert). The service was really great, our waitress was really sweet and made some funny jokes with us. We had green tea tempura ice cream(we each had one) and can’t complain about that! Oh and the Miso Soup was really good too. I recommend this place. It’s quick, convenient and yummy

«DAKARA» translation… «That’s Why» Sums it up… Puts away any doubt that this place can satisfy your snobbish sushi taste… The fish is fresh and Jason knows how to present… Traditional sushi in Whittier CA!!! I’m sure the tempura or teriyaki is great but I have never tried that… I’m there for the sushi and it’s absolutely amazing! I just moved from LA to the area and funny enough they worked at all those fancy places and started their own(good for them). If you LOVE Sushi there is no better place then DAKARA in this area PERIOD… just remember it’s all about the fish here beside the fact that the service is awesome since its family owned… I almost don’t want to tell anyone about this gem but at the same time they are sooooo good that they deserve to be exposed for everyone’s pleasure… «THATSWHY!»

A small sushi place but with the biggest surprise! Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious… Staff is friendly and overall service was great. We ordered the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, Seared Albacore Sashimi with Crispy Onion, Salmon Sashimi, Baked Yellowtail Collar and Albacore with Garlic Butter… This will be a new favorite sushi place for us!
