Frame It Yourself of Westwood

I came with my daughter’s to frame some home made art. Amazingly friendly and helpful service. So patient as my girls picked out thousands of frame colors. I don’t know much about framing, but the final product looks beautiful on our walls and the price was reasonable.

A day before gallery submissions were due, I decided I wanted to try and enter a piece. Unfortunately, it wasn’t framed, and I thought there was no way I could find a place to get it done with such short notice. It was a bit of an odd size, 14×18, so finding a pre-​made frame would have been difficult.
Without having much hope, I called up this store, and the owner said that if I picked wood he had in stock, he could get it done. I dropped it off Friday morning; he was incredibly helpful in picking out a frame. By Friday at 1:00 I got a call that it was done! He didn’t even charge extra for the quick turnaround.
The frame looked absolutely beautiful and was worth the cost. Frames are expensive (in general), but he had a good selection with an array of prices. There is also a very nice selection of small, pre-​made frames.
The owner helped me pick out a frame for another piece and once again, he picked a gorgeous frame.
The only thing to note: if you have a piece where the artwork comes close to the edges (I have a bad habit of painting too close to the edges), take time to see if a frame will overlap too much. I didn’t think much about it and an important part of my painting ended up getting cut off. My own fault for painting too close to the edges — just something to keep in mind.

I took two items over to be framed. One was a watercolor painting that we bought as a memento of a trip to Europe. Another was my poster for the Seattle marathon. The owner was really helpful in picking out frames that looked good. It wasn’t cheap, but he did a great job.
The only complaint I had was that they forgot to call me when it was done. They said it would be 2 weeks. After a month or so, I remembered that I had left them there. I called in and they were done. Not sure what happened. Whatever… he didn’t make me pay for anything until it was done anyway. He had a good line that he gave me — «Let me earn my money.»
