This place hands down has the best com tam I have ever eaten. As a vietnamese american, I am a huge fan of vietnamese food, and this place has honestly mastered com tam. First off, this place seems to be a family owned business and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. I brought a friend who hadn’t ever eaten com tam before and he fell in love with the food. The meal felt very authentic and true to the Vietnamese com tam sold by the street vendors in Vietnam, and honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. For the price that you pay, you get a lot of food and I left the place in a food coma. You definitely need to check this place out if you are a fan of vietnamese food.

This place is above and beyond. I’ve eaten here twice — only because we’re rarely out in the area. I’m so sad that they’re about to close. The rice is perfect, the meat really well seasoned and cooked. My mother loves this place, too. We’re going to make the trek this weekend. I called to confirm what people are saying on here, and he said that they will be out by the end of this month at latest. Get it while you can. I’m not going to go on about how good their food is, but I’m letting everyone I care about know so that they have a chance to try it before it’s gone.

I ordered the #8 Korean short ribs with all the fixings and the meat was very tender. This dish also came with grilled shrimp, shrimp patty wrapped and fried in tofu skin, shredded pork and egg cake. This place is too legit to quit! Sadly, they are quitting though as the owner told me that they will be closing at the end of the month because he was moving out to Vegas to help his sister out at her busy restaurant called Phở Bosa. Well I know where I’ll be going for lunch the next time I’m in Vegas. This was one yummy plate of rice. Go get some before the end of the month if you feel so inclined because they’ll be gone before you know it.

Wow. My roommate insisted that I tried this place before they closed up shop soon. Now I’m conflicted. My taste buds were so happy enjoying the food but I’m sad they’re closing. It was a bittersweet experience. I think the nem roll beats out brodard because it’s grounded well without the random chunks of cartilage. I can definitely taste the quality in the overall roll. One thing I wasn’t use to tasting in the roll was the ‘do chua’ it was an interesting addition. My boyfriend had the broken rice with egg rolls and bbq pork chop. It was so tender, I really couldn’t believe I was eating com tam! And the egg rolls were really crunchy and tasty. I would definitely order these two dishes again. The restaurant is small and parking is scarce but I was pleased by their cleanliness. They had saran wrap on the door handles of the refrigerator. To top it off, the owner was very pleasant to speak to. He kept it real and was pretty funny. I’m going to try to eat here as much as I can before they close up shop. Happy eating!

Saw this place many times on Unilocal,my husband and I were craving broken rice, so we decided to go in and try it out. We were immediately greeted and seated. The service was phenomenal for a Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered the Korean bbq dish with shrimp, quiche & shredded pork. I believe my husband ordered the pork chops dish. We also ordered nem nuong(sp?). The rice dishes were delicious! But the nem nuong, impressive. Comparable to Brodard. My husband was talking to the server and he gave us the sad news, they will we closing at the end of January because his sisters restaurant in Las Vegas needs help. He said it was one of the most popular restaurants in Las Vegas, Phở Bosa. He also mentioned when the new addition to the Venetian is finished, they were invited to open a restaurant inside! Good luck on your journey!

I can’t believe all this hype and great reviews. I came here due to the overwhelming reviews on Unilocal that many Unilocalers state this has the BEST rolls. VERY disappointed. Usually you can’t go wrong if you go with the Nem Nuong rolls, however, this place is below nearly 50% of the restaurants I’ve ate at. Brodard rolls are 5-times more delicious than this. If you live in the SGV, go to Summer Roll behind In-n-Out on Rosemead and Mission. 10-times better! I give this place three stars because the service is very good, the owner actually wants to you enjoy the food, but the food just does not cut the Vietnamese flavorful denseness. It is very bland. Fresh, yes but doesn’t mean it has to be bland.

Super affordable com(rice) and bun(vermicelli) dishes here! You can get a platter with rice, a pork chop, egg patty, and pork floss for $ 6.99. Com Thit nuong is one of my favorites to eat, and the food was very fresh and delicious. Plus, at $ 6.99 for that sized portion… that’s a friggin steal. The only downfall here is the cash only, which I was not prepared for. It kept me from ordering more things, because I didn’t have enough cash! With so many options in Little Saigon, this small restaurant is just another place you can get a great affordable meal. I would eat here again, and especially if craving a rice platter.

This restaurant may be a little hard to find but its located in the Sunrise Plaza and there is extremely limited parking. Thankfully we found a parking spot right away and were also seated promptly. This is a family owned restaurant so there was only one guy manning everything. He was very attentive to our needs even though the restaurant got packed really quickly. –Nem Nuong Spring Rolls: 4.5÷5 Fresh and crunchy. Exactly how a spring roll should taste and on par with Brodard. The sauce brought everything full circle. –Com Tam Tau Hu Ky, Tom, Bi, Cha va Suon Nuong(#6): 5⁄5 A blend of smoked Asian pork chops and shrimp. The broken rice was the right texture and the egg and pork quiche was light and the icing on the cake for the meal. Overall a hardy and worthwhile dish to enjoy for lunch. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to try the Vietnamese broken rice dish and the nem nuong spring rolls.

First and last time. As I was waiting to be seated, the owner said that the will be closing the store in about a week or two. He will be leaving to Vegas to help his sister at her restaurant. Phở Bosa. It’s tokidoki bad this restaurant will be shutting down. It’s soo good! My bf, sister and I ordered the nem nuong spring rolls, come Tam bi cha thit nuong, and bun cha gio thit nuong. I will honestly say that their nem nuong is better than brodards. The thit nuong was wonderfully marinated. Everything was so simple yet extremely delicious. The restaurant is small, only sits about 15 people and able to sit about 4 outside. There could be a little wait if you get there during lunch time. But it’s well worth it. Just sad that they won’t be open that much longer. I would definitely be back.

Good news, bad news: Good news… they were actually open when I came again with some family looking for lunch. Food was good, owner was nice enough. Wish they didn’t make such a bad impression, otherwise I would have been back much more often, and starting sooner. Bad news… he says he’s about to close up shop to move out to Vegas and help his sister at her restaurant. So get your broken rice fix ASAP.

Their spring rolls aka nem nuong are good! Lots of meat and flavor. The sauce is delicious although not as good as brodard’s. But I think their nem nuong is better! A few tables. Glad there wasn’t a wait. They’re moving to Vegas so go while you can!

4.5 stars! I would say this is a hidden gem but it seems like a lot of people already know about it. The people who frequent this place are mostly regulars who come every week. The portions are quite large so I recommend sharing if you do no have a large appetite. But how can you not though? The Vietnamese rice dishes here are SO good. The broken rice and meat were cooked to perfection. It felt like a very well-balanced meal. If you have any questions, the person who works in the front speaks English so he is extremely helpful when it comes to deciding which rice dish to order(trust me, it could get confusing because the menu was so extensive). You MUST order the Nem Nuong spring rolls! They aren’t as good as Brodard’s, but I would say they come very close. They are freshly made(I actually walked through the kitchen and saw the lady making them one by one). The restaurant is TINY with a handful of chairs and tables, so plan your visit accordingly.

We come here mainly for the spring rolls, and think they’re just as good as Brodard’s. Don’t ask me to choose, ’cause I can’t! When ordering vietnamese food, we always have to get vietnamese iced coffee to go along with it — so strong, so delicious. It’s a pretty small restaurant, and cash only.

Tried this place for the 1st time. Recommended by a co worker during my training and boy was I glad he took me here. Not only that they have great foods, but the owner was super friendly. Extremely rare for an Asian restaurant to be tasty, friendly, clean and inexpensive at once. I am so glad they have such great ratings because it’s definitely well deserved. I had the pork chops with shrimp paste(which was super uniquely prepared) and my friend had the Spring rolls that looked better than Brodards. Except, way better pricing. For my beverage, I had the lemon soda, which was also quite yummy. I will definitely be back to give them business, most importantly, I’m comfortable enough to give them referrals as well. Trying to convince my +1 to have Vietnamese food is easy. Trying to get him to eat it for breakfast, well it might be too early in the day for him. So we went to Dat Thanh at 11 am on a Saturday. Brunch time. Dat Thanh is very small. There is very limited seating inside. I think the capacity might be 10. They were barely open so the owner apologized. No problem. We ordered four rolls of nem nuong cuon(pork sausage spring rolls) to start, short ribs and egg rolls over vermicelli noodles, and grilled shrimp &BBQ pork over broken rice. We also ordered two iced green teas since it was beginning to look like a very hot day. The food came out rather quickly. We dove in. The rolls at Dat Thanh are very similar to that of Brodard’s which is why I can see they are constantly compared. If I didn’t want to wait in the line at Brodard, this is where I’d order my rolls from. The sauce doesn’t compare but it’s still very good. The rolls come with pork sausage, cucumber, noodles, chives, mint, cilantro, and fried egg roll wrapper for crunch. They are filling if you just eat the rolls. We split them however and ordered additional entrees. My noodles with the short rib and egg rolls was tasty. He really enjoyed his pork and shrimp rice plate. The owner stayed to gab with us up front. He revealed that they might be closing this location soon to focus on their family owned location in Las Vegas, which is understandable because of this location’s size. They do plan to open a banh xeo(Vietnamese crêpe) place in the future in Little Saigon, so be on the lookout for that.

Great place for Vietnamese cuisine! I came here for a family lunch last Saturday. Arrived around 1:30PM and just narrowly missed the lunch rush. I mean that’s great because the restaurant itself is very small and my party of 6 took up almost half of the space! Service is awesome. Our guy spoke fluent English and Vietnamese, which is perfect for someone like me who speaks Venglish. Aka really ugly, broken Vietnamese. All rice orders can be switched out with vermicelli noodles at no extra cost. I ordered vermicelli noodles with egg rolls(cha gio) and grilled pork sausages(nem nuong). Noodles were perfect and not overcooked/mushy. Egg rolls were hot and crunchy. And nem nuong… Is still making my mouth water right now. Portions were big and definitely worth way more than the $ 7 I paid for. My only gripe was that the soy milk(sua dau nanh) was a little watered down and the Vietnamese iced coffee(ca phe sua da) was not bitter enough. Otherwise, everything was great!

they are closing soon so get it in while you can home-style cooking the nem nuong in their spring rolls is less flavorful than brodards (but also a lot less artificial looking. the stuff at brodards is unnaturally pink) but with that warm sauce their rolls are perfection tried the bun with bbq chicken and bbq shrimp next time, i’ll stick with the broken rice i’ll be sad when this spot closes cash only

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a delicious experience! Upon arrival around 11:30 am, saw the Closed sign with employees inside. The employee later opened the door for us. Started off with the Nem Nuong which was excellent. On par with Brodard without the long lines! These were freshly wrapped with a warm pork sausage, crispy egg roll, and fresh vegetables along with a tasty meat sauce. …definitely the highlight of the meal. Moved on to the broken rice plate. The shrimp cake was okay, so were the pork pieces, quiche and bbq shrimp. …nothing spectacular. Service was friendly and they accept cash only. They also don’t seem to have A/C…just a big fan. ~$ 8 after tax and tip for lunch.

I’ve had this spot bookmarked for quite some time. I had eaten at a com tam spot out in Vegas years ago and had fallen head over feels for the place. Come to find out, they were set to close but they had a sister restaurant in good ol’ OC. The restaurant itself is tiny with not more than 10 tables. The owner is a die hard Clippers fan so you’ll see a Clippers shrine behind the register. Shredded pork, egg/pork patty and egg roll com tam — Take your time and look through the menu. They have all sorts of combinations so read over each to see which combination suits you best. I immediately noticed that the com tam was actually com tam aka broken rice. Excellent! Not going to lie, I wish the portions were just a smidgin’ more but I’m not going to complain. In the end, I was full but not stuffed. Make sure you pour all of that fish sauce over everything. After that, mix the sliced pork with some of the broken rice. I got 2 egg rolls cut into thirds, not overly greasy with just the right crunch to the batter. The egg patty is really thick, stuffed with meat and mushrooms. The location isn’t prime as the parking is shared with other businesses. You’ll likely have to find street parking. Also, it’s a cash only kinda place so make sure you bring the dinero!
