I was referred to Chenoweth by another shop that was too busy to do my MD State Inspection. When I called Chenoweth I spoke with Bob who was very nice over the phone. He told me the inspection was $ 75 and I could bring it in that day. I waited as they inspected my car. I was pleased it was only about 45 minutes. Once the«inspector» aka George Chenoweth came over to tell me the necessary repairs(car failed!) I was shocked. He said the worn spot on my drivers seat(it isn’t a hole in the seat, the material is worn) would require duct tape or he’d have to fail that. I was bewildered as to what that had to do with the safety of my vehicle. Then he said my headlight lens had to be replaced. I was surprised since you can’t tell the corner of the lens glass is broken unless the hood is up. I explained to him that they’re quite expensive and that it isn’t even noticable unless the hood is raised. He said water could get in and crack the bulb. I explained that the lens had been like that for 10 years. I reminded him the car was previously registered in Portland OREGON, the rain capital of the Pacific Northwest(nobody realizes Portland gets more rain than Seattle) and had never had a problem. He still said it had to be replaced. Among the items to be replaced were 2 brake rotors. I did the necessary repairs and brought the car back and was told to leave it. I couldn’t wait for the re-inspection. I arrived at 11:15. I finally called at 3:20 and asked what the situation was. I was told the inspection was done, Bob was just waiting for the«inspector» to complete my paperwork. I said I’d head over. When I arrived I was CHARGED $ 53.11 for the re-inspection. I was dumbfounded. $ 53.11, for what?! I was told there was a charge for half an hour of labor to put my car on the lift to see the new rotors. I said, «You can see by looking down that I have new rotors… and the old ones were in the back of my car!» Bob said it was necessary to put the car on the lift so he had to charge me for that half an hour. I paid the bill unhappily. As I got to the MVA to wait my turn for stickers I looked at the bill. I was charged $ 3.92 for SHOPSUPPLIES. What shop supplies are necessary to look and see if new rotors have been installed??? NONE! My frustration is mainly due to the fact that I wasn’t told the inspection was $ 75 with additional fees for re-inspection depending on the repair. There were many opportunities to make me aware of that fact. I felt like the whole thing was a scam. Whether I agreed with the inspection repairs or not is irrelevant. I did them myself and didn’t pay the shop to do them. Perhaps that’s why I got the re-inspection fee. Either way I don’t recommend them. And I’m incredibly disappointed.
