Seta’s Alteration & Shoe Repair

Sorry but do not go there unless you have a huge budget. She did a very good job on my daughters Prom Dress, but will not give you an estimate and she handed us a bill for $ 346.00 for Alterations!
Yes it was not a simple job, and the work was good, but she is unconscionable with her charges. She said «This is not expensive». We don;t do estimates and we don’t know how much till it is done.
I’m not sure what planet she lives on to think $ 350 for alterations is not expensive, but not in my world, and but you can easily make new a dress from fabric for much less than that.
If you wish to give her a blank check, then she will most likely do a good job, but be prepared to spend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

My wife brought in a pair of shoes to have the heel replaced. Instead of replacing the heel, they glued it to the leather upper, effectively ruining the shoe. Seta then blamed my wife for telling her to do it that way. My wife unequivocally denies that she directed the supposed repairer how to do their job.
This is not a good store. They do not provide quality work.
I should have checked the reviews before using them.
I recommend people never go there.

My husband took my nearly new boots in to be shined. Nothing else. A week for a shoe shine?.
He went back today to pick them up and was told they replaced the heels because they were needed. They refused to return the boots unless he paid for the heels. We did not bring them in for heels I should not have to pay for what I did not want. Thief! Ruined my $ 250 leather boots. How they have been in that center for 15 years is beyond me. $ 14.00 for the shine and $ 30 for unneeded heels. Only takes cash. What a racket. Will never go back.

I went to inquire for a zipper repair. She said they could fix, telling me it’d be ready in three days… however she didn’t bother on telling me how much it would cost, assuming I’d come back and pay whatever she’d charge. Foreseeing that, I ask and then she told me $ 19, not to replace the the zipper, just to adjust it. I thought It was too much for just adjusting a not functioning zipper, so, I told her I’d think about it, to which she rudely almost threw the bag back to me! Rude customer service!!!1
Poor attitude to potential costumers won’t let you go further.
* I was curious about other reviews for this business after my recent visit/​experience, and I was glad I was not the only one complaining of the bad service.

Overpriced for less than average quality of service. Paid 2 times the price of the skirt for an average hemming. Uneven and poor quality of stitching. Never gets my business again.

Brought my suit to Seta’s for a wedding Im in, explained that to them and they ended up butchering the legs and arms of the suit only to charge me $ 162. Gimme a break. Poor craftsmen ship on their part. I had to cancel my check. Recommend you steer clear of this place.

The work product is decent — better than average but not great. I’ve had hundreds of things tailored and I’m a fair judge. Challenge with this location — off the charts expensive… to the point it is ridiculous. Pricing makes no sense and it’s crazy high. $ 70 — $ 80 for minor pant alterations that Nordstrom charges $ 12-​$ 24 for. Crazy.

$ 168 for a bridesmaid dress hem… Doesn’t that seem outrageous? I could have bought a whole other dress for that! Yikes. Will not be coming back here.
Hem at the bottom has lots of loose threads and for $ 168 it should have been flawless.

Seta did a great job hemming my bridesmaids dress, however she would not give me even a loose estimate when I dropped it off and when I went to pick it up she charged over $ 100 for a simple hem. I then wrote a check and she did not want me to write it to the business so she didn’t have to pay taxes. Very unethical! I will not be going back which is a shame because she does great work

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!!
Oh my! I called on the phone to ask a questions, the lady was SOOOOO rude! I asked her for a ball park price on some boot repair, and she said «Just go somewhere else», and hung up the phone. WOW.
How does this place stay in business, beware…

I read reviews tor alterations and picked Seta because I wanted my grand daughters prom dress hemmed nicely.
When I took her to be measured, Seta would not tell me how much it would cost till she saw the dress on, a nd measured it. Then, after we were done trying it on for her, she told me it would be over $ 200 to hem the dress, since it was nice fabric like tafetta. (There were no beads on the hem, nothing fancy, just a fine «baby hem» as she worded it.)
When I told her a hem for $ 200 was far too high and that I would have the hemming done elsewhere, she said since she already measured the dress with chalk lines, I would have to pay her $ 40 for the visit if I did not have her do the hemming!
Not willing to pay $ 40 for the privilege of just getting a hem quote,
I sadly decided to have Seta do the hem, but I was sick about the ridiculous cost).
A week after the dress was finished and paid for, I found out that a friend’s daughter’s similar dress (bought from the same dress store downtown) was hemmed for at a competitor’s tailor shop in Thousand Oaks (check Unilocal for other referrals) for only $ 65! Cleaners in the area that I called also quoted $ 50 — $ 60.
I hope you shop around and realize Seta’s charges are absurdly out of the ballpark, and there are many other tailors and alterations places available for far less money who also do a great job.

Will never go back here for alterations. My older daughter got married last week. I took my dress and a bridesmaid dress there to be altered. First she refused to give me an estimate on the price, then she charged almost $ 600 to alter both dresses. I picked up the dresses and had them steamed at a dry cleaners, because she doesn’t steam at her store. When the bridesmaids dress was tried on it was horrible! The front was ruined! The work looked like a five year old did it. As we were getting ready to walk down the aisle we were trying to restitch the dress. When I called to complain she admitted the work looked very bad but said we told her to do it that way, so she did. Won’t go back again. Site is making me give a star rating so I picked lowest, I would give 0 if I could.

Seta is very experienced when it comes to alterations She has been altering my jeans, dresses ad skirts since I was a kid! She uses the actual string from the jeans when she takes up your pants so it matches and doesn’t look like they were even hemmed! Great job, thanks Seta!

Seta is a magician with a needle and thread. I’ve been searching high and low in Ventura County for a truly great tailor for over 5 years, and I think I’ve FINALLY found one.
My first project for her was a thick wool Land’s End peacoat. Functionally, this was a great jacket (great insulation). However, I always long for more tailored-​looking designer pieces. I thought, however, that the Land’s End jacket could be made to look just as nice with the right tailor.
I came to Seta based on Unilocal reviews, and when I took my jacket in for fitting, she assured me that I wouldn’t be able to tell it had even been worked on, and that the lining would be removed and then replaced for all the alterations.
When I picked my coat up 5 days later, it fit like a glove and, as promised, I couldn’t tell that a single seam had been changed or that there was anything done – inside or out. This was a very thick wool, so this really blew me away.
I will be bringing all my tailoring projects to Seta from here on out. A word or two to the wise: the shop is cash only (checks accepted), and she can be a pretty brash lady. When I picked up, she was on the phone with a family member and when I asked a couple of questions, she said «sorry, I’m on the phone with my aunt from Germany.» A pretty weird and rude response, but I’ll giver her a pass since she’s so darned good with a needle and thread.

What more can you ask for than great alterations, great prices and great turn-​around! I’ve had things altered for myself, but when I had to purchase a size 14 suit for my son who really needed a size 14 jacket and a size 12 slacks, Seta was able to completely remake the pants while leaving the material intact to take it out as he grows. So glad we found Seta!!!

I’ve been here a few times for a few simple alterations. Not great, but they were all done good enough. Then i took a bridesmaid dress there. I chose to because i wanted to save myself the trip to the bridal store in beverly hills. The people there told me what i needed altered was a simple fix that would only cost around $ 15. My dress was a halter style, and the next straps simply needed to be shortened. So simple, I very well could have done a good enough job myself had I had the time. Or just tied the straps together real tight and wear my hair down.
Seta had my items for a good two weeks… fine. I was in no rush. I picked up the dress and she charged me $ 14 for the pants. Perfect, less than what I was expecting. Looking at the work, it appeared to be acceptable. The pants still didn’t fit perfectly, but an improvement from before.
Then came the dress. $ 48! Now I know that because of the nature of the fabric, etc. that working on dresses is more delicate and should cost more. But $ 48!!! I was and still am appalled! I even asked her what exactly she did to the dress because I thought (and still believe) that Seta was pulling a fast one on me. I raised my eyebrows at her, gave her the last dollar I had in my wallet (I was two dollars short because I didn’t anticipate it costing so much, so graciously she charged me 60 instead of $ 61) and went about my way.
No bodice work or anything was done. She simply cut two inches off each strap and re-​attached the clasps to the new end. The end. $ 48. WHAT A JOKE!
I will not be back. Ever. Even though I have more pants that need tailoring, and she did an okay enough job on mine, I’m so put off by how much I was overcharged for the simply dress alteration she will get no more of my business. Lesson learned. If you can do something yourself, than do it!

I brought my suit to the lady at Seta. I needed basic hemming on the pants, no cuff, and the sleeves on the coat needed to be shortened. She pinned the suit up, and once I changed back into my regular clothes, she asked me at what point in the middle of September did I need my suit back… I brought her the suit in the middle of August… A month to do basic alterations? Nevertheless, I told her I needed within a week. She gave me no estimate, even after I asked her, she said probably $ 70. So I left the suit with her.
When I came back a week later, I tried on the suit, noticed that the pants had only been creased, and not sown properly. She then said «Come back in 15 – 20 minutes, it’ll be ready.» So she attempted to give me my suit back incomplete. So I left to go get food, and when I came back, again, she told me the total was $ 164.00. I told her that was outrageous! She tried to explain that the buttons on the sleeve needed to be filled or something. I told her they were not working button holes, and therefore no need to «fill» anything. Her assistant came up and tried backing her up showing me a different suit, and further explaining to me the «filling» process. I then explained to her that if they were actual working button holes, you were supposed to do the alterations at the shoulder, however this was not the case with my suit.
Unfortunately her English was not the best, and I ended up leaving without my suit. I have no intention of paying $ 164 for basic alterations. I also told her if she tries to sell my suit, I will file a lawsuit, no pun intended, and will ensure that her shop is closed down. Overall, I would suggest not going there, it would appear she is extremely over priced. I had the same alternations done on a different suit at 3 Day Suit Broker for $ 30. The only reason why I did not go back to 3 Day Suit Broker, is because I live in Oak Park, and did not want to drive to Simi Valley or SFV simply for basic alternations.
In the end, I am planning on going back to pick up my suit, however I can assure you I will not be paying $ 164 for the alterations. I will give her half of that (maybe) and take my suit and move on. I do not plan on going back there for any further alternations on any of my garments, and I would suggest going to a dry cleaners or 3 Day Suit Broker for alternations, rather than this place.
