The first night we were there our toilet emitted a loud high pitched screech throughout the entire evening(room 315). After 4 phone calls to the lobby and one visit by the maintenance personnel, the problem was still not resolved. Basically I wasted an entire evening trying to fix the problem. Of course the screech kept me up all night and I had to address the issue with the front desk in the morning. They took $ 100 off my bill and told me they would move me to a «nicer» room. While packing up my first room, I noticed a cockroach on the doorknob. I then proceeded to my «nicer room»(room 206) which was considerably smaller than my first room. At this point I had to make a decision– ruin my 3 day mother/daughter retreat by protesting the poor accommodations, or choose to spend my time enjoying my daughter. I chose to enjoy my daughter and to not make a scene. When I checked out I asked the female supervisor to clarify what consisted of a «nicer» room. She said she had no recollection of making that promise and gave me a very insincere«sorry». I can certainly understand moving me to a comparable room if the hotel was at capacity, however there were plenty of available«nicer» rooms. Additionally, a total refund for my wasted evening was certainly in order. I even made an audio tape of the noise so that the Supervisor could hear first hand the auditory discomfort I endured. Overall, it felt a bit like they were trying to hold onto the glamour, but it was being kept together by duct tape. The positive sides were the flowers, the lobster pizza and the young blonde female waitress at the bar– she was delightful!

The resort was very nice the landscaping and grounds were amazing the service was horrible! We rented a ocean view villa for a 1,000 per night and we asked for more coffee Keurig cups in our room for two days we we were told we had to pay for them then we were told they would bring us the coffee and they never did we we went the whole weekend without coffee in our room until we had to order a pot of coffee from room service even that took a long time we were woken up in the middle of the night at 2AM by wedding guests on the beach yelling screaming and partying I recorded the whole episode from my phone and called the front desk and they sent someone down a half hour later to Clear up the beach it was horrible! The pool was packed with screaming kids all day. This is not the place to go if you want to go away and relax. The brunch was excellent! The manager took two too service charges off our 4,000 bill for the poor service and disruption that woke us up out of our sleep at 3 am. This resort also needs more golf carts. They only have one golf cart helping gas to and from their hotel room with baggage so there is always a long wait. I wouldn’t spend this kind of money again here.

The 2 stars are for the layout alone. Beautiful area, rooms are clean, pool is clean, and idea behind it could make it a very successful business. However the young staffing with little guidance makes for a very frustrating environment. Staff don’t greet you, approach you to see your needs, rarely come by, and are often seen just relaxing under tents or pretending to be occupied with tasks. These young kids could make a killing off tips if they just made themselves more available and raised their spirits a bit. More experienced staffing would make ALL the difference.

Just finished a meal — the one star should not be taken to take away from the beauty of the restaurant and the seashore. All that had to happen to make this a wonderful experiences was average food. And we have to say the food was sub par! My youngest son loves seafood and we where told that the Shrimp was the way to go — big and filling. And when the food came it was edible(sub par for a restaurant of any caliber) but the shrimp where barely there. But then the real fun began — I told the Waitress that this would not fill up my son and could they please swap out the shrimp for the fish. She told me she’d have to ask the cook and then get back to me. I said if she couldn’t help please send a manager. And the waiting(or should I say hiding began) for the next 30 minutes we had no body come near us !!! I saw the waitress talk to two managers and they all did NOTHING!!! It wasn’t a difficult call just replace the shrimp with a real meal. But NO. I felt compelled to tell the waitress after being ignored for 30 minutes that on this one simple request that her tip would suffer! And I told her that I thought the two managers(male or so they dressed) lack of attention to this matter was a pussy move! To which she agreed! Oh well it gets better at this point the manager comes up to me and ask me why his waitress is crying! REALLY !!! I mean REALLY !!! Basically he was looking for me to apologize for upsetting his delicate waitress!!! OMG! So I paid for big $$$$$$ for Crappy food an insensitive and snobby(or mentally challenged wait staff(take your pick) and a manager who only came over to pick a fight — not attend to his patrons — my GOD ! I have been apologizing to my family as this was my pick — Please save yourselves the money and aggravation of eating a this restaurant — if I where you I’d drive up to the Waters Edge, park, look at the water, and then proceed to go to to a nice place down the Street like the Coo Coos Nest where they know how to treat people like patrons —

Was there at 9:30 for Mother’s Day brunch. Was Waaay too crowded. They were obviously trying to make the most money with the least effort. We were seated near the bar, with very low lighting. Our neighbors complained about it as well; nothing was done. Our ‘waiter’ spoke very broken English and came only once to the table for beverage refills. There was only one area for the food, completely jammed with people. Children running everywhere and people cutting in line and through lines in order to get to other LONG lines. After waiting much too long for the food, it was cold — everything. We were a party of 3 and only one decided to brave the meat station. He was given one small slice each of beef and ham — thin enough to see through. A totally disappointing and EXPENSIVE experience. Wrote a detailed letter of complaint to the manager and didn’t even get the courtesy of a reply. Don’t go here until they learn about customer service and accommodation

Don’t go here unless you have an event to attend. It’s a good thing this place is in a beautiful location cause that’s all it has going for it. It had been at least a year since our last visit but yesterday’s visit is our last. Someone needs to hire employees that actually understand the service and hospitality business… you provide great service you have happy customers that tip well for your service and want to return. On a cloudy not so busy Saturday mid afternoon we wandered in for a drink and maybe some food. It took almost 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and take a drink order. Had to ask for a menu. Got the wine and one glass had lipstick smudges on two sides. Took at least 5 minutes to get the bartenders attention to get a new glass as she was busy chatting it up at the other end of the bar with 5 or 6 other employees. We also asked if she could put the baseball game on. Said she would and didn’t see her again. Another guy came by later took second drink order. Brought us a check but they had our credit card. Did I mention that during all this there were maybe 5 other people at the bar. Guy next to us had pretty much the same experience. Went to front desk and asked politely to speak to someone about the incredibly poor service. I got two managers, both of which should go learn something about customer service too as they half heartedly apologized and one bought me another wine. They don’t get it.

After celebrating a friend’s wedding at this hotel/venue/spa I have to say that the experience was average and the overall venue was lackluster. The hotel itself is nice but their are some parts of the complex that are worn down and in need of repair. The staff during the event was probably the best part of our experience, but on multiple times there were moments in which the staff should have done certain things(unlocking doors, restocking the bathroom, helping guests with directions) in which they didn’t and it became an issue. That all being said, to me this is your average hotel venue with a spa. The overall event was enjoyable but there were definitely areas for improvement.

We stopped by this past Saturday night to eat at the outdoor bar and patio Sunset Grill. There was a lot going on. A wedding out on the lawn, a high school prom and a band trying to play over the piped in patio music and then having to stop to accommodate wedding. It great that the resort does so much business but your small inexperienced staff can’t handle it. There were 4 bartenders yet it took forever to get a drink and just as long to get a check from the bartender when our table was ready. Having worked at a busy bar when I was younger they should dedicate 1 bartender as a bar back for waiters and assign the other 3 to cover their own area of the bar. They looked like pin balls bouncing all over the bar getting in each other’s way. Now to the food. I had the fried shrimp which unfortunately were not fried enough, not crunchy with bread crumbs and little flavor. It was so wet it was more like shrimp scampi in a basket. Although they gave me a good portion of 7 shrimp, after eating 3 I simply lost my appetite. Cole slaw was tasteless and fries were ok, but it’s really hard to ruin French Fires. My date had the lobster roll which was so soggy the roll just fell apart as if it were dipped into a glass of water. Her salad was very wilted as if it were made hours or days earlier and put in a refrigerator. The lettuce leaves were all brown on the edges so you knew it wasn’t fresh. The waiter was courteous but couldn’t keep up due to his inexperience, lack of training on the restaurants part, and inability to obtain our drinks from the bar. When they finally arrived the ice had melted ! It’s understandable that catering is a large part of any big resort but it’s obvious that the Waters Edge has crossed that line of being a resort with fine dining to being just a run of the mill catering hall trying to cash in the most people they can get through they door with mediocre prepared catering hall food.

This review is for the spa only: My husband gave me a nice gift certificate to this spa for Mother’s Day… I visited this past Saturday for my first appointment of 4, and I was delighted! I opted for the anti-aging facial and it was AMAZING! When you get there you check in, go into the shower room to change into your robe and sandals and then wait in the relaxation room to be called. The relaxation room had fresh fruit, tea, coffee, water and magazines with comfy chairs. When they called me in for my facial, they put me in a room that was lit by candles with meditation music playing and l was told to lay on this comfy bed with warm covers. Steam was place near my face to open my pores while they applied 3 masques, removed blackheads(the only part of the service that was uncomfortable), massaged my face, neck and shoulders and applied moisturizer. My skin looked fabulous after. I polished off the service with a nice glass of wine in the resorts bar. Service was fantastic all the way around and I cannot wait to get my next service(a massage) in July!!!

We spent a week there. The valet and baggage service was excellant. The lobby and dining rooms were spotless. The front desk was fully staffed and very pleasant. The grounds were beautiful and the ocean view was fantastic We had a second floor room in one of the detached units. There stairs were very steep and narrow and carpeted. If you have any problems with slipping or need wider steps, I suggest that a 1st floor unit would be better suited for you. The mattress was comfortable and I slept great. Both my wife and I use cpaps and there were no convenient outlets. Too many hotels have this problem, so it is not unique to them. I had to disconnect the clock and pull out the mattress on the other side. The dining table was dirty and we had to lysol it. The bathtub had mildew in the grout. To be on the safe side, my wife washed the tub out with bleach and water, All of the electrical outlets were in bad shape as they would not hold securely hold a plug. The lamp switches were part of the cord. The sofa cushions needed to be replaced The can opener did not work, so we purchased a cheap one at the dollar store. The coffee cups and wine glasses were too small. Housekeeping which was only due to come once a week never showed up. While we had a great time visiting the ocean, i was disapointed in the resort.

I came here for a bachelorette weekend, and loved it! An under-2-hour drive from NYC, it was the perfect little getaway. The staff are very professional and accommodating, the property is clean and well-kept, and the views are TODIEFOR. To say I was relaxed would be a gross understatement. From spa services, to the indoor/outdoor pools, to the small beach behind the property, there are so many options for you to get your zen on. The only negative point is that there are very limited food options(the restaurant sucks – slow service and mediocre food). Considering the fact that they are located in a pretty desolate area with few other food options, you’d think they’d want to step up their culinary game. Maybe something to work on, Water’s Edge!

I recently received an email regarding current specials the resort was offering. One in particular I was interested in was the Spa Breakaway Package. The special stated«Luxurious Room for Two(Sunday-Thur) Spa treatment including Massage, Facial, or Spa Manicure and Pedicure, offer subject to availability and excludes holidas». I called to book two rooms for 4 people. The front desk was very accomdating and booked my rooms and then transferred me to the spa to book the spa treatments. It wasn’t until then that I was informed that the package was only good for one person for a spa treatment. No where in the email did it state that the spa service was only good for one person. I cancelled my reservation and immediately emailed the resort. After 4 days of not receiving a reply, I emailed them again. I got a phone call from the spa manager who offered to give us all the spa services but we had already made other plans. The date I booked was for the Sunday before MLK day, because I have that Monday off. I told him that we had booked somewhere else and that there were no other availble dates that would work for us during the time that the special is offered. I was apologized too and that was it. A gift certificate would have been nice to use in the future. Instead they lost 4 customers who booked elsewhere for a day at the spa!!!

Compared to the Gurney’s Resort and Sea SPA in Montauk, which is the Hamptons area just across the bay, this hotel is million times better, not to mention that is few times cheaper. Less expensive because it’s Connecticut, not Long Island. The location is superb. Since it’s at the bay, the water is always calm and smooth, so you can swim there a lot and it’s a true paradise for kids. You can rent kayaks and a paddle board too. Or just relax and enjoy a drink that you can order right there at the beach. The sun beds are a bit old and not luxurious but you won’t pay much attention to that charmed with the sea view and the beautiful and peaceful scenery. Tons of different seashells on the sand that kids like to collect. Driving distance to the local charming villages, like Old Saybrook, Westbrook and New London, shops and sights. The fitness center is a little bit beat up, all the equipment is old and it needs some refreshment to me. They have full service SPA but I can’t say anything about that, cause I haven’t tried it. There are too pools: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor is full of kids most of the time. But grown ups don’t need it much, cause there is an indoor pool or the ocean right in front of you. They give you towel cards– one towel per person, which is not really convenient, I would want a couple at least. The rooms need some refreshment too, but still: clean, bright, pretty cozy and spacious. There are 101 rooms at the hotel. I guess they renovated just some the part, cause on the pictures on their website the rooms look more attractive than were ours. And we didn’t have any sea view. Coffee/tea maker in the room. Breakfast is in the Restaurant at Water’s Edge. As well as you can have dinner there too. And it’s really amazing: a lot of dishes and varieties to choose from, all very delicious. The service is a bit slow, though. But that should be a special review about the restaurant itself. There is a terrace, and the view is spectacular. Also there are a couple of bars and a Bistro. The stuff is kind, helpful and very nice. Complimentary valet or self parking. Excellent place for families with kids or couples.

Come only for the daytime ocean view. We came for our anniversary, which we let them know about ahead of time. Check in was 40 minutes late. Upon requesting late checkout, I was told this was not possible, until I reminded them they checked us in late for our $ 470 room with a limited obstructed view of the ocean, which was essentially a view of the valet servicing. Also, we got a surprise 6 am wake up call which we did not request. The piña colada at the beach bar was… gross. Maybe stick with beer or standard mixed drinks. Room service came without condiments or silverware. Dinner was subpar, to be frank, but perhaps because they are quite under-staffed; my clam chowder came out barely lukewarm and our gelato came out melted. It seems this is mainly a wedding venue rather than a resort. 3 weddings were going on yesterday. The staff were generally friendly, but nothing extraordinary. Again, just come for the daytime ocean view.

My hubby took me here for my 30th birthday this past weekend and we had a great time. Being avid cruise-goers, we kinda felt like the atmosphere here puts you on a cruise ship for a day, yet we were parked just right outside. Arrived around 4pm, checked in and then went to check out the«shops». Um, there was like barely any place to shop at. We went to the bar for a drink and then walked down to the water and I felt like we were kinda becoming part of a wedding that was going on at the time as we passed guests and they were breaking down a cocktail hour area. Have massages booked at 6pm, they were nice, but my masseuse could have gone a bit harder. Dinner at 8pm, great meal. Broccoli rabe was a little too hard for my liking, but the waiter who didn’t seem that nice at first, really warmed up and gave us great service and honored all of my requests. The room décor could use a little updating, but the bathroom was beautiful. We were told we weren’t having a room with a view but low and behold, we did indeed have a view of the water from our room. When we come back, we are definitely going to hit up the Sunday brunch, it smelled so good as we were leaving!

In celebration of my best friend’s 30th, I took her for a spa day at Water’s Edge yesterday. And what a lovely day it was! Sure, it wasn’t cheap, but we had high quality services and a full day of pampering with an aromatherapy massage, facial, and aromatherapy pedicure. We didn’t take advantage of their pool, hot tub and all that stuff, but nice to know that those amenities are also included for anyone participating in spa services. Definitely not an every day(or every month) experience, but nice to know Water’s Edge is her for those TREATYO’SELF kind of days. I can’t comment on the restaurant, but from the looks of these other reviews, I’m not missing much!
