Was in Reading, pa for a business trip last week, and of course I had to find a spot with a cheesesteak. I found this place a couple miles from my hotel, and actually went there twice during my stay. Perfect philly cheesesteak both times, and the«mikes fries» with old bay seasoning were great. I’m coming back in a few months, and I know this place will be on my list to hit again!

The place is off the hook. Awesome food awesome people! You want a real Philly cheesesteak then go to Mike’s! I never have to go down to South Philly again. I don’t know why this says they are closed when they’re open every single day

On 3÷19÷2015 I had absolutely the worst cheese steak I have ever eaten, check that, I couldn’t eat it, most of it at least. Every piece of meat in it was complete gristle and totaly unchewable. There were 1″ long strips of leathery connective tissue attached to some of it. This meat must have been scraped off the shin of a 50 year of steer, that is if it was actually beef. Unfortunately I got the sub takeout and didn’t have time to drive it back there, dump it off, and get my money back. The roll, sauce and cheese were all decent, it’s a shame that the main event was so disgusting. 0 stars for this sandwich

We had Mike and his crew come out to our house and cater our party. He set up his grill in our yard and cooking cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks to order. He also had our pizza delivered and it was fantastic! I can’t even tell you how impressed I was with the food, service and price. All of our 80+ guests were impressed and stuffed by the time they left. Our Philly family isn’t that easy to impress, but Mike made it look easy. Thanks again to Mike’s Taste of Philly and Mike’s crew for making our party one for the books!

Personally I think they are some of the best subs in Reading, however their service is very hit or miss depending on who is working which is sad. I know one time I called and the girl taking my order said they were no longer taking orders despite being open for another hour. As long as ya get the right employee it’s a great place to go, if not it isn’t.

I can say that I am a cheesesteak aficionado. I tried Pat’s and Gino’s, in Philly, as well as a few of the not so known steak places. My favorite of which is Sonny’s on Market. When I am not traveling to Philly and I’m home in West Reading I go to Mike’s because they make a Philly Cheesesteak the right way, a wiz with. Being a resident of Berks county it is hard to find a Philly Cheesesteak. All the places around here make what I call a pizza steak, with sauce and melted provolone or an American cheese like product. Mike’s however isn’t like the other places around here. The steak isn’t pre packages frozen steak slices, instead they use a sliced rib eye and don’t chop it up on the grill(unless you ask for it that way) then it is cooked with the onions and when done the Cheez Wiz is spread on the roll and the mixed steak and onions put in top. The meat is well seasoned and the rolls are awesome. They have the right crust and a soft center. For a local place the food is just as good as most places in Philly. Unless you’re really hunger go for the small it’s 9″ the large is 18″ and even my fat ass couldn’t finish it. Mike make mine a small wiz with extra wiz!!!

They make a great Chicken Caesar salad! The croutons melt in your mouth, plenty of chicken and dressing included. Yumm

HORRIBLE I ordered the fried eggplant w/broccoli rabe sandwich. Sounded really good. They took the eggplant out of the frier and put it on the grill. Added the broccoli rabe and tomato and proceeded to bash the crap out of it with the spatula until it was a grey color paste. Then they put the cheese on it and bashed it up some more. Then to make it worse, they covered it and steamed the whole mess so it was congealed paste. They scooped this baby food into a roll. Not only did it look horrible, and had a nasty consistency, it tasted like crap. It was horrible. I will say horrible again! If I had eaten it there and not taken it to go, I would have insisted on my money back. As it was I threw it away after a few bites. Ordered the fries too. Natural cut or whatever they called them. They were so unbelievably greasy that they soaked thought the fry bag and 2 brown paper bags. They joined the sandwich in the trash. Never again.

Well, they definitely aren’t the same after the redo from Yellow Submarine to Mike’s. They’ve expanded their menu to include Pizzas and Wings, and they still have cheesesteaks(although I’m not sure what the taste of Philly refers to… seems only to refer to the décor of the place). As a vegetarian, I used to love Yellow Submarine because they had a few very good vegetarian sandwich options. Mike’s still has a few options, but the veggie grinder is poorly executed. First, when we ordered it, they acted very surprised that anyone would order this sandwich… not a good sign. Then they asked us if we wanted mayo on it… on a sandwich with eggplant, broccoli rabe and grilled onions? Strange. We did not go for the mayo… it would have been 10 times better with a little provalone and some tomato sauce. The boyfriend was not impressed with the«philly» cheesesteak. All– in-all, I might give them another shot, after all they did just open, but I’m not rushing back or recommending to friends!

People just don’t get the traditional flat steak around here. Stick to the chopped steak and you will be happy. Rolls are exceptional — ATV is like a big hamburger roll — authentic, ample meat & cheese — wiz or deli cheese which is important! Pizza is awesome — not traditional puffy crust with cheese on top. More like brick oven, crispy with cheese and sauce swirled. Like Grotto in DE. Really good. Sweet chili wings are tip top. Also the boardwalk style fries and eggplant fries are great.

I’ve only ordered the cheesesteak(with whiz and onions of course), and it was awesome! The last time I was here with my boyfriend, the guy working gave us a free order of fries. These were great too… nice and crispy and with some type of seasoning. I’ve been in about 4 or 5 times, and each time the people working have been incredibly friendly. The owner is talkative and seems to enjoy getting to know the customers. He even introduced my boyfriend and I to his family who had been eating there at the same time we ordered. I’ve heard the Italian sandwiches are amazing, but I just can’t seem to bring myself to order anything but the cheese steak-my bf and I crave them! I’m sure I can give it 5 stars once I bring myself to order something else off of this menu. :)

Very disappointed! I was hoping we would be lucky enough to have a decent Philly cheesesteak place close by… again just a cheap imitation…(literally) I have no idea what they’re using as meat claiming it to be steak. It is near white in color like lamb meat and it is completely flavorless. The worst part they charge prices like Pat’s and Geno’s. Almost $ 9.00 for a 9 inch steak… I would pay that in Philly. I won’t be back unless they change the meat they use. My stomach even felt off after eating it.
