Picture you’re at the supermarket getting the cheapest available lunch meat from the deli counter. The meat goes on the slicer and they slice a chunk 2 inches thick. Gross right. Now put it in the microwave and heat it(thats right, heat it)…now pour cold coagulated yellow gravy over it. This is what they serve you at the town tavern. Once was enough for me. Absolute garbage. Did I mention the bright canary yellow gravy?

I wish there was a zero star option. I hadn’t been to the Town Tavern in over 20 years. We went back«home» to West Milford and was excited to take my boys to a place i frequented with my family growing up. I wish I had waited another 20 years. I don’t know where to begin. The food quality at the local gas station would be better — and the price was outrageous. I am sure I will be hospitalized for some sort of bacterial infection as I felt obligated to at least make an attempt at recouping my $ 27 meal. Thankfully, my children and wife did not even try — as they were not clouded by nostalgia as I was. Please please please, if in West Milford, go anywhere else.

Spent 3 days in the hospital with food poisoning after eating here. They do not store their seafood safely. beware.

This is Bobby Thomoson and I have been enjoying The Town Tavern for over 30 years. The food is top notch and the staff and owners are amazing. To those of you who disagree you don’t get out much and don’t know good food or good staff.

We had reservations for thanksgiving dinner on 11-27-2014. Upon arrival we waited for the hostess to take our name. She ran around the restaurant with phone in hand and could care less about the crowd of people waiting at the front door. After standing there for about 40 minutes we decided to leave. Congratulations Town Tavern you have made my blacklist of business’s that I will never patronize again. What makes this more disappointing is that the hostess is the restaurant owner. If you want poor service and rudeness this place is for you. Zero star rating from me.

I have been here several times and I have to say the quality of the buffet has gotten less and less over the years. The staff are all incredible but I think the owner need to reassess the cooking before her place looses a strong client base.

My family and I, along with some friends, had dinner on Thanksgiving Day at the Town Tavern. We opted for the early seating at 12:30pm and knew we had 2 hours before the next seating. I wish we had longer, say 2.5 hours — it would have made a big difference as I felt rushed to leave, even though I knew in advance of the time limit. Despite that, we all enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet immensely and our waitress could not have been more attentive. The one thing I would recommend to the owners is to upgrade the Ladies rest room. As a woman, I like to have some modicum of privacy when I use the rest room. Keeping in line with the«rustic» environment of the restaurant, the Ladies Room continues that theme. Unfortunately, the stalls are not really«closed in» enough for my taste. The slats on the wooden doors have wide spaces between them; and overall the door itself does not provide enough privacy — it’s very short — on top and bottom. I could hear the woman next to me much too clearly for my taste. I would assume she wasn’t comfortable, either, and I felt badly for her. Overall, the restaurant is great, but the ladies room really needs a makeover in terms of soundproofing and privacy issues. Particularly on a day like Thanksgiving when there are so many people in the restaurant, an extra stall would be a bonus — as long as the stalls are«roomy,» soundproof(to the extent possible), and more private. This issue would not keep me from going back to the Town Tavern, but I think some consideration given to it would enable its female customers to have a greater level of comfort.

This place is great. After reading the other reviews I decided to go here. We got there at 9 knowing that they closed around 10 and expected to have an hour for the Seafood buffet. Apparently the last seating is at 8:30 and the buffet gets taken in at 9:30. Thanks for nothing, Unilocal users. The lady who seats us decided that she could just have them leave the food out a bit longer for us since it was over an hours drive. She said that there wasn’t nearly as much food as there would be on Saturdays or even earlier on Friday but there was a good amount of food there in my opinion. She seated us and said that they would give us a 10 minute warning before they took the food in. The seafood they still had out was crab legs(slightly bigger than normal), steamed clams(the bigger kind), and then mussels in a lemon type sauce and clams in some other sauce. Everything tasted great. Our waitress, Carolyn or Caroline(Sorry, I can’t remember) was great! It’s not very often that you see people who are actually happy with their job. She was very nice and very eager to please us and meet all of our needs. You get a big plastic bin thing for shells with nut crackers and tiny forks. My sister got a pasta dish and asked for more sauce, she came out with one of those small silver gravy dishes FULL of sauce. Normally restaurants are skimpy with sauce but not here. She left the cheesecake out behind the counter so that no one put it away and we could have it when we finished our meal which was nice and she said that if we wanted anything fresh she would go and get it for us from the kitchen. She just basically jumped at every opportunity to make us happy and all servers should be this way! She kept trying to get us to try the prime rib. I mean, she said it so many times it was crazy. At most buffets with prime rib, it is dry and yucky so we weren’t very interested in it. But she kept asking and eventually my mom gave in and got a piece. We then understood why she wanted us to try it so much, it was amazing! For sure the best prime rib we’ve had in a long time. We were happy that she got us to try it. So if you like prime rib, this is the place to be. They had some other dishes there that weren’t seafood related but I didn’t really even look at them because that wasn’t why I was there. They have desserts that look fresh baked and hard serve ice cream with a variety of toppings. Basically, this place was great and we were really happy that they accommodated us. We will be back if we get the chance :) Just make sure to get there before 8:30 for the buffet! And as a side note, they have a bar that is packed. I’m not 21 but I assume that by the amount of people there, it’s a good one.

This place is so trashy. The buffet is gross. For whatever the reason, my father-in-law loves it. Everything seemed microwaved and reheated. Never will go back.

Have been here on a weekend for their buffet. This place was absolutely packed with bikers! That must say good things :) Remember there being a few different tiers of buffets and took the one which didnt include the seafood. Forget the Old Country Buffet and that other big chain garbage — come here, pay a bit extra, and eat quality meats like a king. Literally the best ‘american’ buffet I had ever had. Highly recommended.

We stopped in to have a drink at the bar because I’ve never been in the place before. It was PACKED, although I shouldn’t be surprised since it was 7pm on a Saturday night. The food buffets looked impressive, but my drink was a Shirley Temple of margaritas. I’m not completely writing this place off(although someone mentioned food poisoning in a previous review?) I’m on the fence about going back for a meal… maybe under the right desperation… er, circumstances.

Uh, I am not sure why this place is earning«Good» reviews! I have eaten there once with my family and will never go again, I suffered from a sad bout of Food Poisoning after eating here, as did my sister and my boyfriend! Basically, it is an over-priced buffet, they do have a Regular Menu, which my child ordered a hot dog from. The buffet consists of two general areas, the first consists of regular American fare, the second is the seafood(which I believe costs a bit more), average price for the buffet is around $ 23/person. On the American fare side, they have Roast Turkey, pastas, salad bar, but the mysterious meatball dish is one that truly stands out in my mind, the Meatballs smothered in a Velveeta cheese type-sauce. This is just unbelievably gross!!! I may go back just so that I can post a photo! The Carving station consists of meat that is less than desirable, perhaps it was just sitting out for far too long? But it couldn’t have because it was actually busy, perplexing! To each his own, but in my opinion… just gross!

I cannot say enough good things about this place, and I don’t own a part of it I swear. When I want the«best» prime rib I’ve ever had, I got back to The Town Tavern. Their Seafood buffet is legendary as well, but I am more of a beef man, personally. The prices are very good in my opinion. If you want a large meal, you will pay more, if you want something smaller, there are cheaper things too. They have a seafood and a regular buffet on certain nights, call ahead. They are also only open certain nights so call ahead, but the place is so worth it. 5 stars easily. Never had a bad meal there, once in over 20 years.

I love going to Town Tavern with friends and family. We usually go for the big smörgåsbord where there are alot of great things to eat. I probably shouldn’t go too often because I tend to overeat everytime I’m there.
